Even though spider-kin Liliana sees the past, the future and into men's souls, she can still be surprised. After all, no one wakes up wondering if they'll be accused of murder by a werewolf. Wolf-kin Peter Teague of Fort Bragg's Criminal Investigation Division analyzes the venom in six dead soldiers. The victims were killed by a spider-kin, and Liliana is the only spider-kin in Fayetteville. Pete's handsome boss, the dangerous fae Colonel Bennet, watches Liliana with burning ember eyes, but refuses to call his investigator off. It's up to Liliana to keep Pete from executing her and convince the skeptical scientist she's not the murderer, all while keeping her new friend from getting eaten by the real killers. And if that's not enough, she might even have to socialize! How will she survive the paranormal mystery that puts her as the prime suspect?

Precise Oaths is the first book in the Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville series, urban fantasy Fae romance for adults containing a strong female lead, intense action, a diverse cast of charming characters, offbeat humor, Fae and shifters like you’ve never seen them before, and a touch of slow burn spider romance.

Paige E. Ewing (she/her) writes about superheroes and sentient cities, were-spiders and gun-loving fairies. For a living, she hawks big data analysis, machine learning software. For fun, she shoots arrows, and throws axes at people and things. She lives in the middle of nowhere, Texas, and flies a lot to get somewhere, usually in planes. She once invented a way to grow food on Mars that NASA liked, and has a cute trophy to show for it. Her dogs and horses are unimpressed.

Brilliant, clever, and sympathetically written! Liliana is the cure to my arachnophobia. I never thought I would love a spider so much as I love her. Now, I’ll follow Liliana into whatever adventures Paige Ewing has planned for her next.

Not my typical genre to read, but I REALLY had fun with this one. Great characters, a compelling mystery, and a unique, well-imagined magic system I thoroughly enjoyed. An excellent read!

3.5 stars- I really like the merging together of genres to create this book. The world building for me was a little hard to grasp at first, but once I understood what all of the sub categories of beings were in this novel I could follow the story along a little better. Liliana, our FMC, is a 146 year old seer spider-kin. Right now she is only half developed to the full seer spider she will become in about 20 years, but she has been a long standing psychic in the Fayetteville area since she came over from Europe 100 years or so ago. Lily gets visited by some Others when she didn’t think there were any other species around her, and that’s when problems start to arise. The story follows her and a gang of Others while they try to solve some unsolved murders.

If you like any sort of fantasy, futuristic, story lines- this book is definitely for you! The second one in the series just came out and it picks up right where this one leaves off as well.

This is a phenomenal book. I just loved it. The read dates don't do it justice. I wanted to read it all in one go, but life...

The world-building is subtle but outstanding. The various creature-kin featured are all perfectly drawn. I half-expect to meet one on the street any day now, but since it is an urban fantasy, sadly, that isn't likely.

The heroine learns to overcome many of her own problems to go to the aid of others, and this is a lesson we all could stand to learn.

I don't want to say too much because this book deserves to be approached unspoiled. What I will say is to buy a copy. As soon as possible. It's well worth it.

Books Read in 2023 #32 “Precise Oaths” by Paige Ewing

I wouldn’t normally read a paranormal-romance title but when your friend writes one and asks you to take a look, how can you say no?

I was surprised by how quickly I put my self-admitted genre-prejudice aside and was drawn into the story thanks to the fully rounded and empathic lead character and the excellent world-building that is gradually revealed as the narrative unfolds.

I will admit that I did find the main character’s abilities a little convenient from a plot development point of view, and I did get confused on where we were in the timeline on a couple of occasions.

But overall I found myself enjoying the characters, the world, and their story to the extent that I read it in just two sittings.

I adore a competent FMC. She just doesn't say she's deadly, she actually is and she actually saves not only her own ass, but those of her friends too. I loved how Liliana's autism is described and it doesn't take away from her being a loveable, deadly character.

Sometimes in the descriptions of the battle, I'd get lost trying to figure it out but if you imagine a trapeze artist+ballerina, fighting, with spider man abilities, the picture becomes clearer.

The book lost a star because of Pete saying "this is pure class", way too many times and it feels like a dated saying.

Loved this. Looking forward to reading book 2+the romance with Bennet growing.

Precise Oaths is a quick, fun that introduces us to the spider seer, Liliana, and the cast of characters that have suddenly complicated her previously sedate life.

Paige Ewing had crafted a world in our near future that is familiar enough to jump right into but that has intriguing fantasy elements. And while she’s clearly paying homage to familiar fae- and were- tropes, she weaves them into a world that is wholly her own.

While this book comes to a clear and satisfying ending, it’s obvious that the author has more plans for this character and world. I can’t wait to read more.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. My Hubby comments that my honest response setting is somewhere along sledgehammer. That being said? I loved the book. It made me laugh at the snark and the mental commentary from Liliana that I could SO relate to.

The world-building is amazing and pulled me in. The story line is excellent and kept me up till 3 a.m. I might make the suggestion to start reading earlier but meh, it was worth being sleepy the next day.

When I read the last page, it was like seeing a good friend off at the airport. Glad that they are off to further adventures but sad to be parted from them for ever how long.

Some of my response to the book I'm not sure how to express because it's not just one thing. It's like a tangle of thought and emotion and I guess rolling with the character in the book, a spiderweb.

Here is my honest take on 'Precise Oaths'. Get the book and ask for more.

Although I favor the sci-fi side of sci-fi/fantasy, I have read and enjoyed fantasy book series (for example, The Dresden Files and The Iron Druid Chronicles). Therefore, I am always pleased to find fantasy authors who can put a fresh spin (pun intended) on familiar fantasy elements.

Precise Oaths is the well-written and well-paced first entry in what is sure to be an excellent fantasy book series. Even if you are not typically drawn to this genre, you will appreciate the well-developed and intriguing characters, especially the amazing protagonist Liliana, and you will experience an engaging and entertaining story wrapped up in gradually revealed, and never overwhelming, paranormal world-building.

I read this in nearly one sitting (would have been a single sitting if I’d had a choice)! Liliana is a sweet, engaging heroine who grabbed me from the moment we met her, and her struggles and bravery kept me turning the pages. I loved the diverse ensemble, and I can’t wait to get to know these characters better and see who else inhabits Liliana’s world as her adventures continue. Looking forward to the next book!

Delightfully Neurodivergent!
In a time not too far in the future, after the Energy Wars, the Others, Fae & Animal-kin are returning to our world.

Liliana is spider-kin, a seer whose 8 eyes allow her to look at the present, the future, the past and into motivations of those around her. This wealth of information is also a sensory overload as she works through all possible outcomes of every action and interaction, on top of that she must dance around all the little social cues that humans, fae and the various animal-kin take for granted.

Precise Oaths is not just an urban fantasy rom com, the author has a keen grasp of awkwardness her character feels as she navigates through the world of relationships and fear of being misunderstood. I’m looking forward to Liliana’s next adventure.

My thanks for the ARC goes to NetGalley and City Owl Press. I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Genre: Fantasy, Urban Fantasy
Spice Level: Low-Medium (nothing is on the page but sexual relationships are mentioned)
Romance: Slow burn
Representation: LGBTQ side-characters, Fantasy creatures, Neurodiverse
Language: Low—I don't remember any profanity

EXPLOSIVE CHEMISTRY starts right where book one ended. Liliana is working through how to save her friends. After avoiding community and interaction, she's come to find that she enjoys having people in her life again. She's still working on that whole social interaction thing which leads to fun moments with subtext that she doesn't understand. It makes me realize how often subtext is used.

I've found these characters to be unexpected and multi-layered. It's a fun, fast read. You will need to start at book one for the full impact of the story. I love how we have a resolution to a problem but there are still future problems to be solved. I feel like we make progress in the book.

I recommend this book.

Happy reading!

Okay, full disclosure here, Paige is a long time friend of mine and she asked me to review her new book. I didn't know anything about it or that she even had written a book, but since she is a friend, I decided to indulge her and read her little book. I was pretty sure it was the usual fan fiction type of thing with some kind of beautiful princess who is actually all powerful and everyone she meets falls instantly in love with her. Especially when I saw it is set in the well worn genre of hidden "magic people" like elves and shapeshifters. (Yawn!)

I warned her that I would give a real review and not just blow smoke for a friend. She agreed and encouraged me to be honest on my opinion. So...here goes.

Paige, I owe you an apology. I figured you were just another "writer" who made self-congratulatory Mary Sue fan fiction like so many of my friends have written. But, after the first few pages I realized that I was reading the work of an author! The prose is sharp and solid. The characters are interesting. I mean, the main protagonist isn't some hidden away beautiful princess/chosen one. No...she's a SPIDER! And not just a "Spiderman" kind of spider. Though she is still a "good" kind she is certainly not the typical Fox-goddess or dryad or whatever. Not only is she a rather uncomfortable beast type but she is also almost autistic and has several mental issues she has to deal with. Liliana is not your typical heroine. And neither are any of the other characters. One or two may seem a bit one-dimensional and somewhat cliche' but no character is cookie cutter.

Ms. Ewing presents an interesting story with intriguing characters. Bad guys who aren't so bad, good guys who may not be so good, a mystery, a bit of uncertain romance, action, a different kind of world view. I love her style of creating a narrative showing several different scenarios based on pre-cognitive viewing and sometimes even with that advantage there is no good solution. Paige's handling of a pre-cognitive main character is unique in what I've read before and is actually more realistic than other attempts at such a character. In addition, I honestly felt for the main character with her fear and confusion at dealing with the real world that her form of mental issues have a hard time handling.

Some of her actions scenes I felt were a bit muddied and hard to keep up with as well as a few other details felt just kind of glossed over. A bit of polish on those would make this book almost perfect. But overall this was a very enjoyable read. The kind of book you open up when you want to curl up in your favorite chair with a favorite beverage and spend an enjoyable afternoon. Paige Ewing has created a rather unique view of a world that far too many people play at and fail. She has truly succeeded.

Highly Recommended

In Precise Oaths, the reader is introduced to a captivating world where the future can be altered with all its uncertainties and possibilities. The protagonist, Liliana, is a seer spider-kin gifted with the rare ability to glimpse into the future. Her life, marked by a peaceful existence of offering guidance to clients, takes an unexpected turn when detectives knock on her door, seeking answers about a mysterious case involving spider venom and six deceased soldiers. Among these detectives are Pete and his superior, who, like Liliana, belong to a group of paranormal beings with anthropomorphic abilities.

This novel is set in a richly imagined world populated by both endearing and intriguing characters, a testament to Paige E. Ewings's skill in creating a welcoming universe. Liliana is crafted as a relatable character, not an invincible hero, but an empowered woman grappling with everyday challenges. Her journey through social interactions, emotional empathy, and moral dilemmas rooted in her past traumas paints a portrait of a character whose motivations become clear and compelling as the narrative progresses. The book excels in its world-building, which, despite initially seeming daunting due to the intricacies of the kin system, unfolds organically through character interactions. This approach to exposition allows the reader to immerse themselves in the novel's universe without being overwhelmed by dense explanatory text. The blend of thrilling action, including Liliana's strategic maneuvers and close encounters, and informative dialogues maintains a brisk pace and adds depth to the narrative. The novel's immersive storytelling captivates the reader, though at times, distinguishing between Liliana's visions and reality can be subtly intricate, especially during more extended visions.

The unique concept of the story is likely to appeal to fans of supernatural romance, offering a fresh take on the genre. Precise Oaths is recommended for those seeking a book with a novel twist on fae narratives, blending the mystical with the relatable in a compelling and enjoyable manner.

Precise Oaths takes place several decades in the future. The Energy Wars have concluded years ago, with abundant clean energy and diminishing pollution. The world becomes greener and the Others--fae, sprites, werewolves, goblins, and other supposedly mythical creatures--come out of hiding. They assume human form and quietly find their places among humanity.

The novel's protagonist, Liliana, is such an Other: a spider-kin. Although human in form, she has the characteristics of a spider with fangs and four pairs of eyes. One set of these can peer into future, showing probable outcomes to events. Liliana makes a comfortable living using this ability to act as a seer, steering her customers along future paths for their betterment.

Liliana gets a knock at the door and admits a trio of clients. She discretely sizes them up with her various eyes. The group consists of a policewoman, a soldier, and an Other, a Celtic werewolf. To her dismay, Liliana discovers they are not here for a session: they suspect she has murdered some soldiers. They have died horribly of spider venom bites, and Liliana is a spider-kin. Case closed.

Startled and scared, Liliana flees. What follows is a race where Liliana must evade her pursuers while trying to find the actual killer and clear herself of charges. She can use her future sight to evade capture, but it has side effects where avoiding a near future problem can create a cascade of events that create worse consequences for her farther in the future.

This is a fascinating read that avoids the tired tropes of a dystopian future. It has an intriguing cast of characters that includes: a goblin who is a doctor, a sprite who is an armorer that specializes in automatic weapons, and a werewolf that will never give up on hunting its quarry...but can be reasoned with. It is refreshing to see characters who don't compromise their principles. This is important because in the end, whether they all survive depends upon honoring their precise oaths.

I highly recommend this book, and look forward to future adventures with Liliana.

Flat out – I loved this novel. 5 stars for sure.

I’ll start off by saying that I’ve never had an appetite for fantasy novels – although I devoured Tolkien’s LOTR a couple of decades ago. I will confess to not knowing what a Fae was. Also, I’ve spent the last 5 years in graduate school, which obliviated my passion for pleasure reading.

So, why did I buy this book? I bought Precise Oaths when I found out that it was written by a highly regarded former coworker of mine. I was curious about what the author had written, and wanted to provide a little moral support for her hard work.

I had no plans to actually read the whole book – I’ve simply never been a fantasy romance consumer.

This plan changed, though, when Hurricane Milton hit the Tampa FL area earlier this month. I was left mostly without power and Internet for days. I did, however, have an iPad loaded chock-full of Kindle books – a ton of text books, various “required reading” books from school, work-related books, miscellaneous self-improvement books. And a freshly acquired copy of Precise Oaths.

I cracked open the e-book from Paige and started reading. My initial confusion in the first sentence of the book (WTH is a “spider-kin seer” and why am I reading this book?) vanished when I read the second sentence. Nobody, I mean literally NOBODY EVER, wakes up and wonders, “will a Celtic werewolf accuse me of murder today?” I was hooked. You can’t stop reading when you hit a sentence like that. I love really good sentences. This book has some great ones.

I loved the character development and the building tension from anticipation of what might come next, what details might be revealed. I really felt the protagonist Liliana come alive. It’s a very well-written and absorbing work. Needless to say, I purchased the second book in the series. 5 points if you can spot the “Dr. Who” reference in the novel.

I had some apprehension about reading this book and waffled back and forth a few times. Spiders are generally loathsome creatures that you don't want (or at least i don't want) in your home. The author took a risk in my opinion making the leading lady, Liliana a spider kin. We are all probably familiar with the typical others in books - vamps, were animals, witches and Fae but a spider is something new. We are also probably all familiar with Spider-man and she is nothing like spider man but no less heroic.

Her abilities, though spider like, were nothing like the guy in the web suit slings webs. She used her enhanced vision of the multiple eyes to help not only her self but to help soldier's families and others to know the future but more importantly to know the safety of their loved ones. When she was being pursued early on and she thought to disappear but couldn't because her clients depended on her, we saw the first glimpse that she was more than a spider and she became less the creepy creature and more a person with special abilities.

I also was a little surprised by the Fae general in the story as most people portray Fae as beautiful and perfect but he was scared on the outside. On the inside he was like her concerned for his people. I wondered briefly which man would be the leading man for her but came to understand this book was about building a relationship with a crew she could trust in future books.

All in all it was a very unique book that ventured into what I consider new territory of Others. I look forward to seeing how the story develops for Liliana and the Fae.

Calling all fantasy lovers, check out this book!

I loved how I was dropped into this world with Liliana (a spider-woman seer) and all the other beasties. We get to learn as we go which feels so authentic instead of "fantasy-splaining" everything. PRECISE OATHS is a world that's unique and well-built, capturing me with its fascinating take on the fae. A real masterwork of world building!

This book has layers!
We get to see through Liliana's eyes—there's the central conflict for this story (the dead military personnel) and what it means to live in a community around humans (Yay! More tension!). But we get glimpses of a bigger story and machinations going on behind the scenes. This type of writing leaves me hungry for the next book without leaving me on a cliffhanger (thank you, dear author!).

The romantic plot is more in the thought stages at this point. I wouldn't consider it spicy yet. It might get spicier in the future but without Liliana's seer-ship, I just don't know. (I personally hope it doesn't get chili peppers as it ramps up.) The romance is enough to keep romance readers interested for the next book. And mystery lovers will have their scratch itched too.

I loved so much about this book! It bent my brain in different directions with its twists and the engaging characters. Please, let the next one come out soon!!!

I recommend this book.

Happy reading!

Precise Oaths has everything I love about police dramas and urban fantasy all rolled up into one with some awesome extras I totally appreciate.

Lily is spiderkin, a rare spider seer who makes her living working as a psychic near Fort Bragg NC. She lives in a world where animal kin and Fae (referred to as Others) are everywhere, but hide who they are from the Normals. Her quiet life helping people is interrupted when a spiderkin becomes the main suspect in the murder of several military personnel from the base, and Fort Bragg CID comes knocking on her door.

Liliy quickly (and quite unwillingly) becomes tangled up in the lives of Peter Teague and Zoe Giovanni, the two people working on the murder case as she goes from trying to clear her name to helping them find the true killer.

From that point on, this book takes on a gender-swapped X-Files vibe (well, if Mulder and Scully were both the creatures Mulder was after). Add to that a hot, mysterious Fae/Colonel at the top of the chain of command and this book will keep you up late into the night trying to figure out what's going on, who's allied with who, and how it will all end.

As an Army vet, I have to say, I've never had much love for Fort Bragg, but I cannot wait to read about Ewing's version of it in her next installment of this series.

Rating: 4.5/5 Starts a little slow, but then picks up very quickly

This was a great read, one that kept me turning the pages even when I should have been doing other things. Not only were the characters engaging, diverse, and believable, but the story overall is not quite like anything I’ve read before. It wasn’t the LGBTQ+ characters, which I loved, or the presence of Fey and Otherkin, which I’ve seen. It was the way Ewing wrote them, the way they connected in the story. Also? Liliana, the main character, is Autistic; author Paige Ewing does a great job of portraying this without detracting from her strength and amazing capabilities. Nicely done!

The story has plenty of action-packed scenes, especially given Liliana’s spider-kin abilities (which kinda reminded me of Spiderman a little). But while I would mostly classify it as an urban fantasy, it also had the same cozy feel as Legends and Lattes, Light My Pyre, or the Presence Unknown, Paranormal Investigators series. Precise Oaths is a book you can enjoy while snuggled up with a blanket and a cup of tea or cocoa, or sitting on the grass under a tree, or just about anywhere.

This fun debut novel is the first book in what will be the ongoing Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville series. I absolutely look forward to more adventures with Liliana, Pete, and the rest of the cast. If you like cozy fantasy, complete with Otherkin and shapeshifters, you will definitely want to read this book.

Precise Oaths is a thrilling fantasy novel that captivated me from the very first page. Filled with intrigue, supernatural elements, and an enthralling plot, this book kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. From the moment we meet Liliana, the spider-kin with special abilities, the story never loses momentum. Liliana's unique ability to see into the future and into people's inner motives while at the same time dealing with inner social shortcomings makes for a likeable main character. Liliana's courage and determination made me root for her from the start.
The author's skillful storytelling and well-crafted pacing create a sense of urgency that drives the narrative forward, making it impossible to put the book down. The writing style is smooth and immersive, and effortlessly transported me into the world of spider-kin, wolf-kin and other assorted supernatural characters living among us.
This book has it all - skillful storytelling, gripping plot, and well-rounded characters make this book a must-read for fans of the genre. If you're looking for a thrilling adventure filled with supernatural elements, mystery, and a touch of romance, look no further than Precise Oaths.

In this neurodivergent fantasy novel, the Paige Ewing brilliantly weaves the characteristics of mythical and fantasy creatures with the protagonist's unique perspective. While the opening chapter may initially feel awkward, mirroring the main character's social grace challenges, it ultimately adds depth to the narrative once understood.

As the story unfolds, you can't help but appreciate how the Paige artfully incorporates neurodiversity into the world-building and character development. The mythical beings are not only fascinating in their own right breaking traditional perceptions of their species, but they also serve as a metaphor for the diverse ways in which people perceive and interact with the world around them.

However, the book would have benefited from a smoother introduction, allowing readers to more easily immerse themselves in this enchanting tale. Once past the initial hurdle, the story truly takes off, inviting readers on an unforgettable journey filled with excitement, emotion, and self-discovery.

Overall, this neurodivergent fantasy novel is a fun-read for those who appreciate complex characters and thought-provoking themes. I look forward to seeing how Liliana's, Pete's, and Colonel Bennet's path interweave in the future installments.

I am normally not a paranormal romance reader however, the title and description were intriguing so thought I'd give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find I could not put it down. Fast moving right from the jump, the story is engaging, the characters compelling and the writing facilitated sharp visualization. The characterization of the protagonist comes to life at a remarkable pace, I felt an immediate connection to the heroine within a few pages. Then the dial went to 11, a fun ride.

The setting is fascinating and while there are familiar elements represented by the preternatural beings, these aren't your grandma's fae. Set in the future, the tech & history serve as buttered popcorn - it's lightly used, tasty and you're left wanting more. A unique setting overall, hard to describe, like a tasty dessert created while experimenting in the kitchen - part urban fantasy, a dash of romance, a hint of pre-cyberpunk, some whodunit, and couple doses of horror (I actually said "eeewwww" a couple of times.)

I want to watch this movie and play the video game now. Certainly anticipating the next installment. Well done.

What an amazing book! I read this in one sitting (when I should have been doing other things!!) It was fast-paced, great worldbuilding (a subtle mix of a slightly futuristic setting and an urban fantasy plot with different Others mixing with Normals) and a fantastic cast of characters.
Liliana - our FMC and a Spider-kin (a really great twist on the usual UF protagonist) - who could be described as having ASD (though we are told that diagnosis is not quite right) is a wonderful companion through this story. This was a self-contained mystery (not the cosy sort!!) but it looks like the next installments will continue the story arc. I particularly want to know what happens next with the Colonel, I really hope he might turn into the love interest, maybe, please, Paige?
This is an author who will be going straight on my must-read list, and I am REALLY hoping that there is another book in the works very soon!! One warning though - don't start this when you have something else you should be doing :-).

This is a fascinating and strange story, starring a fascinating and strange protagonist. Ever read a book and think that the protagonist is doing something stupid just because the author needs them to? This is NOT that kind of book. Our heroine has crippling emotional issues that make simple things like walking through a crowded lobby frought with peril. She can see the future, but can't understand when it's appropriate to use a first name or a last name. And yet Liliana is not a helpless damsel in distress. Far, far from it.

There are shades of Ender's Game here, only I'm not entirely certain Liliana is capable of Ender's remorse. You could also compare her to Murderbot, but Liliana doesn't have Murderbot's (often faux) detachment or self awareness.

Humorous and horrifying often in the same sentence, this is a book that hinges on the main character's personality and emotional damage. This is a corner of the Urban Fantasy city we don't usually get to see from their point of view. If you're looking for something different in the genre, look no further.

I was given a copy for review by the author, and had a great time reading it.

I won this book in a giveaway and I really enjoyed it. I read a lot of Romantasy books but this one was totally different from any of the books I have read. I absolutely love the main Character Liliana, she is so unique and a badass! The story consists of people called Others; which are people mixed with an animal. They have 3 different forms- Human, Demi and Full Animal form. Each different kind of Other has different kinds of powers. Liliana is a spider seer. She has 8 sets of eyes, each set possessing a different ability. The author did a really good job describing the characters. Sometimes with types of books like this it can get messy with all the different kinds of fantasy characters but I didn't feel that way when reading this book at all. The characters are described very well and it is very easy to picture the story in your mind. A Widow Spider is killing soldiers and Pete (A Celtic Wolf Other) is trying to catch the killer. Pete thinks Liliana is the killer since she is the only spider Other in Fayetteville. Liliana must prove to Pete that she is innocent or kill him. If not she will have to start all over again...

Update: Just bought the 2nd and 3rd book:)

I just thought this story was amazing. Main character Liliana was so unique. I loved her perception of the world and how she interacted with her perceptions. She seems neurodivergent, though this is never specifically disclosed, and instead may be related to her being a "spider-kin." Either way, she was written in such an engaging way that whether she was following social protocol for rooting for the local high school sports team or dealing with a deadly widow spider, I was there for it.

The story starts right in the action with the a murder of several soldiers on the nearby Fayetteville military base. Liliana is questioned, mostly because she is a spider kin, but she is innocent and circumstances lead to her becoming part of the investigation. The thing about Liliana is, she has FOUR sets of eyes (spider, right?) and each set of eyes see something different. One set functions as her human eyes, one set can see the colors of people's emotions, another set can follow people and see them in the present, while the last set can see various versions of the future. THIS ALLOWED FOR A THIRD PERSON LIMITED OMNISCIENT narrator. My literary side completely geeked out over this. We do stay in the head of Liliana, but because of her vision types, we can see places where she does not exist and we know what the other characters are feeling.

It was fascinating. I loved every second of this book. So excited to read the next one!
