I once had a proximate neighbour named Jeff. Still do, as a matter of fact, whenever I can put my Old Bones in gear long enough to hazard the hike to our Post Office (we still get home delivery) to mail a parcel.
Jeff is disabled by a back injury, mind-numbing in its savage pain.
How did I meet him?
Well, he was out walking his cat on a leash!
Yeah, you heard me right. The street Jeff lives on is fulla high density traffic. The cars just whiz by when the beer and liquor stores open.
Jeff's cat is therefore Forbidden to go outside.
But Jeff, a thin, nervous but compassionate youngster, wanted to give that fat feline a little exercise. He couldn't bear to lose his cat to a disease targeting corpulent cats. He's got a heart of gold.
So we would chat. Sensitive souls like me and him are statistically scarce in the savagery of the modern office. I made it to my pension but Jeff didn't, so my heart went out to him!
Now, Jeff's fate was made worse by the guy in the other half of his mom's duplex. A macho, testy, quarrelsome OCD type of guy.
You say you have a neighbour like that? They're not rare, by any means.
Anyway, Jeff liked to feed his squirrels with nuts. His neighbour DESPISED him for it. He would trap the squirrels on his side and release them MILES away, where they'd never Dare come back.
Well, Jeff won a pyhrric victory in the end, when the neighbour finally satisfied his OCD drive by moving to his clean-freak condo. But that first year I knew him, Jeff was going snakey with the stress, so I gave him my copy of this book for Christmas.
He was deeply touched by it.
Jeff Cavins has written many heart-warming books, but this one helped ME most of all.
Staggering under the intense strain of burnout, I met souls in it who're FAR worse off than me!
Misery loves company, so if you suffer like me and Jeff from chronic pain, you'll love it too.
Sure, it helps to be Catholic, but I don't know that Jeff is - and HE loved it.

Stories of everyday people relying on God strengthens my faith

Something compelled me to read this book. I am glad I did. Reading it created a path of empathy in me that I didn't have before, and also strengthened my faith that others could go through such unfathomable circumstances, yet hold on to faith and watch it flourish.

Anyone who has suffered through a loss or faced difficult times in life will find inspiration in this book. It is easy to get lost in this collection of personal stories. It is even easier to learn how to overcome even seemingly insurmountable problems.

Very Good Reflections on Suffering
The 10 stories, written in an autobiographical style, provide good insights as to how suffering can bring about greater faith, how faith can help us manage our suffering and ultimately how suffering can bring about salvation through Christ, and uniting it with His. A book worth reading and hanging on to reread for a refreshing reminder.
The editors did an excellent job selecting the stories, and creating a unified text from the journeys of diverse sufferers.
