In "The Menagerie," written by Jason Hall (Beware the Creeper, Pistolwhip) and drawn by Rick Lacy (Venture Brothers), a dull trip to a conference turns into a deadly adventure when a mythical menagerie from ancient Europe appears in the Amazon rainforest. Writer Nate Piekos (Atland) and artist Ben Stenbeck (Tales of the Vampires) teach Abe Sapien a valiable lesson about silver lining in "Small Victories."
The primary story was a lot of fun, very standard Hellboy tale, but with more of the Professor than you usually get. Some good twists, too. The backup was over too quickly; I love the "what they do at home" stories.
This story is adventurous and fuuny when Hellboy acts up when his team are checking this starnge menagerie whe ntheir flight just crahed into a wierd forest in the middle of no where. But in order for their investigation to proceed, Hellboy must fight strange, hevay, enemies that are attcaking him from the menagerie.
This did not live up to the standard set by Jim Pascoe's Hellboy Animated stories at all. For one thing, these comics are supposed to be for all ages, and there's much more swearing in this volume than in the other animated adventures (the comics and the movies). The story was decent at best, but not nearly as entertaining as The Black Wedding. I would only recommend this to Hellboy completists.
