Tales From Circadia

Rate this book
"Tom Deady is a true storyteller, and I can offer no higher words of praise." - Richard Chizmar, best-selling author of Gwendy's Button Box (with Stephen King) and Chasing the Boogeyman.

Fifteen stories spanning the full spectrum of the genre. Horror, dread, and heartbreak await in Tales From Circadia, the first fiction collection from Bram Stoker Award winning author Tom Deady.

• A writer searching for inspiration in his self-made dream world finds that ideas aren’t all that he can bring back from Circadia.
• A man working at a construction site realizes a mysterious sinkhole contains more than darkness.
• A psychiatrist explores the mind of a revival preacher recovering from a tragic fire and they both come face-to-face with The Red Man.
• An old man gets more than he bargained for when his grandson pulls a very special prize from a box of candy.
• A hired assassin waits for his prey, never expecting the aftermath of his final job.

"Tom is giving us what we really want when we say we want it all Tom Deady is giving us horror." - Josh Malerman, - New York Times best-selling author of Bird Box and Malorie

"In this collection, Tom Deady is the driver, and even with the seatbelts and airbags and crumple zones, you aren't safe. It's not because of the way he drives; that's perfect--as far as words go, he's a roadsman. It's where he's taking you in Tales From Circadia. Roadside attractions only he knows how to find--scenic destinations you won't be able to forget soon. If Tom Deady is behind the wheel, you had better strap in, because you're about to head to some scary places.." - Bracken MacLeod, author of Mountain Home, Stranded, and Come To Dust.

Wow.

I read constantly. Why have I never heard of this author? These short stories are fantastic! Each one is different and each one pulls you in. I'm not a writer, can't do it. I've tried. But to me, writing a short story seems harder than a full blown novel. You got a small amount of space to draw in the reader to the characters and their world, a small window to get the reader to "like" the characters enough to continue reading. Tom Deady does that and more. My next step is to get every book, short story and novella this author has written and devour them like a starving dog.

A great collection of horror short stories. While there were a couple that I felt could've used a bit more work, the majority of the tales here featured some great, quick hits of horror. My favorite stories in here were the ones that only had a small touch of supernatural or fantastical elements to them. In those, Deady was able to tell compelling stories of people trying to deal with very real and compelling issues with only a slight sense that something unnatural was taking place. My favorite story of the bunch was The Pink Balloon, for doing exactly that.

I bought this book from Tom in person when he came to my city. He told me a brief story about the cover, and I asked him about his writing (since i'd like to be a writer). Cool guy. After he signed my book, i read it at home and genuinely loved it. The cover alone is worth leaving on a book shelf, but the first story -- the title story -- was a great reason to take it off the shelf and keep reading. Good work Tom!!!

scary stories

Thank you for the stories Tom Deady. So were truly scary, some were very depressing and some just were stories about life. I enjoyed them all. Characters were well developed in most, but what really enjoyed were the varieties and the story line at the end which offered some insight to the authors.

Tales from Circadian is a damn great book. This is a collection of stories that Tom Deady has written over the years. If you're a fan and have somehow not read this book, stop what you doing and pick up a copy now. If you've never read Tom's work, you're seriously missing out. Other titles such as Haven and Weekend Getaway are also must reads.

Outstanding!

I loved this selection of short stories. They gave me a Ray Bradbury vibe. Disturbing enough to shudder and then keep reading. My favorite was Snookum Lake....
