XML (Extensible Markup Language) promises to be the next important markup language for creating Web pages and technical documentation. XML is based on the international document markup language, SGML (Standardized Generalized Markup Language), and is intended to replace HTML as the language for creating Web documents. Unlike HTML, however, XML is more extensive and powerful, and is not as easy to learn as HTML. A book on XML is needed because XML represents a new language in an established market. Over the next year or so, many XML-based authoring tools and viewers will be available. Hands On XML will cover the basics of XML, including what it is and how to use it. The majority of the book is structured around three projects that show readers EXACTLY how to create each project. Appendixes round out the discussion by providing a complete XML language reference and a comprehensive XML reference.
