Chronicles of an Urban Elemental #5

Intellectus: Origins Discovered

Rate this book
Watch out Montreal, things are heating up.

As we settle into our role as Guild Enforcers and the Quebec Quint, my siblings and I find our rhythm. Our training is paying off, our circle of allies is growing, and the chaos of being thrown into the deep end of the lava pool eases off.

Things are better on the boyfriend front too—Hi, my name is Jules, and I’m dating a demon.

Of all the things I never thought I’d hear myself say, that tops the list. Gareth isn’t just any demon, though, he’s one of the Poreskoro Six—the enemy—the elemental demon hybrids with the ability to consume our power.

Every relationship has its challenges, right?

In a city with souring fae magic, out-of-control empowered, and homicidal in-laws, we struggle to hold our own and keep the balance.

It’s a good thing the Gagnes are at their best when things are worst.

The Quebec Quint brings you more elemental adventure in book five of the Chronicles of an Urban Elemental series, Intellectus: Origins Discovered.

Heart-wrenching, heart-warming and simply fun

Oh my goodness, did Auburn EVER more perfectly paint a picture of anguish over impossibilities than in this book? Jules’ emotional breakdown is so elegantly described; the reader can easily understand and know how she was feeling in that moment. It’s an empathic gift for those without the empathic “talent.”

For me, this is what I love most about Auburn’s writing style, the way she conveys emotions. Now that I think about it, ALL my favorite authors share that quality. Each has a unique way of communicating their characters’ emotions, and those emotions become the canvass upon which they tell their story.

Jules’ anxiety was the heart-wrenching part, but her family’s response and the responses from Gareth’s brother are the heart-warming, hope-saving themes of strength and family and strength in family that color everything from Auburn that I’ve read. And this, for me, is the other part of her appeal.

I guarantee, you will enjoy!

Decisions to make

Jules and her family get a call from Fiona and Sloan for some help with an elemental, they find out there are more elementals than they thought and they are in danger. Now Jules, Gareth and her family need to figure out who is threatening them and why and put a stop to it. I love this series, the feeling of family in it is awesome and they are always ready to help each other no matter what.

Jules and Gareth are getting closer and his demon sisters are trying to kill them

Gareth’s sisters are after the two but that is only the beginning because they have been capturing and torturing the new fae teens. Even Demon king Rance is trying to figure why. Jules thinks it has to due with gathering elemental powers. Now the quints have to find the powers within themselves and gain the strengths to fight back.

Fi asks Jules and her quint to come to Toronto help with situation involving an out-of-control wind elemental and discovers that one of Gareth’s sisters is trying to use young elementals to gain power.

Footnote: 1) I’d be the same way about the pumpkins. Anyone can have perfect one, but the odd ones are more interesting.

Fave scenes: picking out a pumpkin, meeting Dart & his friends, the greenhouse garden and Gareth fighting his sister.

Off To The Fae Lands

Jules group is called to Toronto to help an air elemental who had lost control of their powers. The elemental had been experimented upon by a group under the contol of Gareth's sister.

Lots of action, great dialog, hard questions, and new plotlines in this one to be covered in the next book(s).

Eager awaiting the next book!

Demons will be Demons

Gareth’s family continue to cause pain using the homeless elementals. Jules and her quint cannot let this stand and use all the powers they command to fight them. However Gareth and Jules become closer and closer. From the first page to the last this story kept me entertained and I can’t wait for the next.

This is a decent book in the series. Although the series is pretty much just Chronicles of an Urban Druid but with elementals, it is still new stories, new characters and new adventures. There is also a bit of crossovers between the two series. Overall I prefer the druid series but this one is not bad.

There is the usual, magic slinging, banter, ass-kicking and so on and so forth. It is a light but fun read with plenty of action.

I cannot really make up my mind whether I like this bit with the totally unhinged Poreskoro sisters driving so much of the story though. It’s like Pelosi and AOC on steroids with magic thrown into the mix. Frightening to say the least. I think a somewhat more charismatic and mentally balanced bad guy would have been more enjoyable.

Still, an enjoyable read overall.

Origins was worth the wait!

Ah to embrace who you are! That journey is never easy in any world! This is told with the pace, humor, horror and abundance of love that set the stage in the series and continues flawlessly.

Wow, big changes

Lots to unpack here and we finally get a real relationship between Jules and Gareth. New perspectives and different directions cropping up all over. Be interesting to see where everyone ends up.

This book really grabbed me & pulled me in! Very hard to put it down. Action packed. Lots of background Info revealed, but even more questions remain. Hard to believe this all happened in this one book! Of course I loved the crossover with Fiona’s team & more dragons! On to the next book.

Excellent as usual

I suspect it is a North America thing but the reason it dropped a star was I became fed up of she/he “waggled his eyebrows”.
I know the film but has anyone seen people, in real life, waggle their eyebrows that much?

I enjoyed reading this story

I liked reading of the continuing adjustment of Julie and her elemental family to the new reality they find themselves in and the strengthening of their innate abilities. I look forward to the next book to find out what their antagonists are up to

good read

I’m glad that Jules and Gareth finally stopped tip young around one another and now can get on with bigger plans as they are stronger together, a real force of nature, but then that’s what elementals are all about. It’s a great series you really shouldn’t miss!👍👍👍💜

Not bad, but ....

more of a place holder to set up the change of location in the next book. Still, some good scenes, people changing and growing, moving the "family" forward.
