PREHISTORIC NIGHTMARES THAT ARE ALL TOO REAL! Flying thunder lizards! The King of Tyrannosaurs! Man-eating giant insects! The sailors of U-184 are trapped in a world beyond all reason, and the ape-god that rules this island hellscape stands on the horizon, waiting and watching as hot death pursues the doomed mariners across his kingdom. In this pulse-pounding tale written by ALEX COX and illustrated by TOMASSO BIANCHI, the shadows of Skull Island’s jungles offer no escape from the carnage — and rescue is only a fleeting dream!
Still fast moving, still fun in a dark and brooding way, but it feels really light and free of much plot. Again, the last issue had the "heroes" tromping through a big Kong footprint, hinting we are finally going to have a decent Kong encounter. Instead, we jump again, and this time a rex is attacking. We get blood and gore and the crew loses men, and we get a really dumb man-vs.-rex sequence where a dude knocks a rex off a cliff by bodyslamming its shin. Yeah right.
We also get a log sequence ala the old film, but this time with menacing pterosaurs (blood! Guts!) and we get a spider sequence kind of like that lost scene... but Kong doesn't really show up until... the last page. Again, it looks like he is going to come out of the shadows and do something, but I am not holding my breath.
