We all know how the legend goes. Girl meets boy. They fall in love. They get married. And they live happily ever after. The fairytale. The ending that every girl wants, that every girl dreams of. For a brief moment there, I foolishly, naively, allowed myself to dream that’s what our destiny was. That our friendship would evolve into something more and we’d be together forever. The reality is that our story ended before it even began, with blood at my feet, tears on my cheeks and my broken heart held forever captive in the hands of someone who’d never wanted it.
I Was Always Yours is the third installation in the Royal Crown Academy series. It is a standalone novel and can be read as such, although for a better understanding of the world and characters, it is recommended to read the other two books first. Please be advised that this is a dark romance with lots of triggers and readers should proceed with caution.
Khai Hara is an American author currently based out of New York City. An avid fan of the romance genre, her debut novel 'Long Live The King' comes after years of planning. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, reading and spending time with her boyfriend and their dog Thunder.
Basically h pines away after H for years. Years of OW in h-s face and then she just takes emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Machohist.
The h has known the H since they were kids but has known the H’s twin brother longer. H instantly likes her after seeing her but is also jealous thinking she likes his twin. One day the H’s twin asks if she likes his brother and she says yes and they decide to write a note to the H asking if he likes her and if they want to be bf and gf. The twin takes the note and put it in his pocket then goes off and then gets in an accident that kills him. The H sees the note that was in his twins brother pocket and thinks the note is for the twin from the h and he gets upset and decides to distance himself from her and starts being mean to her. She leaves the country for four years but comes back and go to his school. He puts an off limits on her and ignores her for the rest of the years until senior year. For 4y he bullies her and the rest 2 he ignores her. That 2y happend after h was kisseb by OM and H felt jelous. Not liking that feeling, he went to ignore her. While he is ignoring her, he makes sure h knows about every Ow he has hooked up with. h feels hurt and jelous during that time. h never hooks up with anybody - at school nobody wants her per H orders, but she went away to Europe whole summer etc. Nope.. virgin h. Senior year Hs friend starts to bully h-s friend, so they clash more. Verbal and somewhat mild physical abuse, also sexual abuse. But author makes it ok, because h likes it. When H abuses h, it is with anger - goal is not to arouse her. She goes to one of his underground fights to be a ring girl in barely anything there clothing and he gets pissed that other guys can see her and when his opponent says something to her he gets pissed and punches him before the fight begins. After that he SA h with fingers, but as said h likes it, "no" does not mean no - so it is okay. Also there is this arranged marriage pact etc thrown in. Dnf because the abuse was not okay. h says "no" and "not here", and H still takes her V in dirty ally. No condom. Even when h asks for one. Later he calls her whore and"could have been anybody" etc. It is okay, because h was secretly turned on and had a O.
The whole thing is super toxic and glorified abuse. All because H thinks h liked his dead twin years ago, "belongs" to the dead twin and is jelous bitch. Wtf.

—refusing to communicate —being petty over a literal childhood note (grow up??) —making Six's life a living hell —refusing to talk to her —bullying her —breaking her a heart —calling her a bitch —calling her a whore —calling her a slut —meanwhile he was the actual whore 🥴 —ruining her dating life (boys shouldn't breathe near her but he's free to run the streets) —making the whole school hate her —refusing to marry her but also making sure she couldn't move on —then telling her he'd rather marry anyone but her —giving the most confusing mixed signals in human history —telling her he'll "fuck whoever he wants" after the engagement (romantic, wow 🥲) —taking her virginity just to tell her she was the "closest available hole" (prison. now.) —threatening to cheat again —starting a situationship with Six, then playing hot and cold —being violent, cruel, and using her as a means to an end —finally getting broken up with by her (it's been a long time coming) —grovelling for like… 10 days max 💀 —sending letters and gifts daily —suddenly revealing he "loved her all along" —and having like 27 tattoos all relating to her, —
[dnf @ 42%] i hope someone would cut off phoenix’s dick, make him choke on it and die. IDRGAF this man is just nasty and not in a way that can make you horny.
After reading second book in this series, which I liked btw, I was excited for Phoenix and Sixteen story. But I'm disappointed bc I didn't realize he was going to turn into a manwhore while she remains virgin 😑 over a little misunderstanding. Only if they have communicated, it would have been cleared but no, hero acted like an immature asshole while fucking everything in a skirt.
I liked the starting but then the om ow drama started to make each other jealous all while he humiliate, bully and degrade her. It was toxic and I don't think hero will ever redeem himself in my eyes. Not that I liked heroine any better. I liked her at first but she started to piss me off with her action as their story progressed.
SIX AND PHOENIX?? Second chance romance, bully romance, OBSESSED hero. this book was so so good. THE GROVELINGGGG yohoooo this WHOLE series has been so so good and I can’t believe I’m on the last book, this is book 3 and the 4th book is about Nera and a PROFESSOR?? excuse me ☝🏼 🕺😀 SO EXCITED
BACK TO THIS BOOK~ okay so he’s been so obsessed w her since the first day he saw her and they were really close friends but later on he started hating her when they both started the RCA school, he put a “ NO TOUCH” rule on her to keep all the boys from her and she thinks he does it bc he doesn’t wanna see her happy but is that really sooo😂
WONT SPOIL ANYTHING. BUT IF YOU LIKED GOD OF MALICE BY RINA KENT, YOU’LL ADORE THIS ONE
officially putting this AUTHOR on my NEVER READ ANY BOOK EVER shelf. This book has tons of OW drama. friends to Lovers with miscommunication with Bully thrown in.
Manwh*re H with v heroine. This really isnt my week in romance 🤦🏻♀️
I wanna hate this book so bad! I hate, hate, hate second chances. Like 99,9% of the time I avoid them like I avoid pension salesman in supermarkets. I always tell them I’m 16, sorry (not sorry).
So , second chances are always done bad and this, wasn’t done to my taste either. Because, ugh boy meets girl falls in love with her but thinks she doesn’t feel the same. He hates her, sleeps with other women while h stays virgin. Cmon, already I see red and wanna smash my kindle.
Why 5 star, you ask me? Well, this all became irrelevant when their epic fated love story unfolded.
It was sad, then tragic and then it was beautiful. Of all the books in this series, this was my favourite. This is the best of the best. This is this kind of a love story what makes my cold dead heart beat. Left me with a smile on my face and butterflies in my stomach.
And their smexy times? Jesus, I need holy water for this. Definitely, do not read it in public. This was wow, made me blush a bit here. This book regarding to descriptive smexy times goes to stand besides Jana Aston and Anna Zaires. Holy bejesus hawt 🥵
I hope author will write a series about h father, how he met his wife . And his brother seemed rather interesting as well. I feel there is first gen series brewing and I am all for it!
🔸no cheating 🔸bit ow/om drama 🔸 manwhore H ( thankfully nothing on page, just mentioning him being one) 🔸virgin h 🔸 both have piercings wink-wink 🔸good girl/bad boy 🔸 10/10 smexy times 🥵 🔸 rough, bit kink play, anal 🔸grovelling 🔸condoms not used. H declined 🤣 🔸second chance 🔸super j/p H (tattoos his name on her 🫣) 🔸 he’s real asshole to her but he truly redeems himself
Four stars? I was probably high when I rated this book. This rating is more appropriate.

Original review:
I have a lot of thoughts but one of them is probably: holy shit.
I didn't think I could love Phoenix and Sixtine more than Rhys and Thayer, but here I am...well both couples are precious to me, I fear.
I Was Always Yours was everything I wanted. Childhood friends to enemies to lovers? Sign me the fuck up. Khai Hara knows how to write smut because it was hot. Really, really hot. All I can say is that Phoenix Sinclair is batshit insane, and a freak. A hot one, though.
As a French person, I'm pleasantly surprise with the use of the language in it, which is nice because that means the author did a minimum of research lol. About the writing in itself, I would say that I appreciate the author's writing style, so the grammar typos didn't bother me. And honestly, I kinda grew attached to RCA's universe, and its characters. It's not an original setting, and it doesn't have incredible plots but I'm entertained.
Phoenix and Sixtine are true soulmates. I really love them. However, Phoenix pissed me a lot at the beginning. The shit he said to Sixtine...But, he made up for it. At the end, he was just a pathetic fool for her, and I'm here for it. Like the previous books, there's a third act break-up...and I was GLAD it happened because Phoenix needed to get his shit together. He met my expectations, but I do think Sixtine should have been meaner to him...but the fact that he has 27 tatoos on him dedicated to her really got me.
Overall, a very enjoyable read. I can't wait to meet my girl, Nera!
Loved the beginning of this book. But then the author lost me at having the H hating the h for a silly misunderstanding. Of course he turns into a bully and manwhore while the h is heartbroken. In my eyes the H never truly redeemed himself.
1. Across three books in this series, there's a pattern of minimal plot development overshadowed by excessive se* scenes. It feels like the plot is just an excuse to string together explicit content, which detracts from any meaningful story.
2. Abusive Male Main Character (MMC): The MMC, Phoenix, is portrayed as a psychopath, crossing the line from possessive to outright abusive. His behavior includes bullying and borderline abuse, all while claiming to love Six. I’ve experienced what it’s like to hurt someone you love, and it’s devastating—it feels like your heart is being torn out. The fact that Phoenix shows so little remorse for causing Six pain makes his character completely unrelatable and unlikeable.
3. Toxic Relationship Dynamics: Phoenix’s refusal to let Six move on, even if he thought she had feelings for his dead twin, is deeply disturbing. Instead of handling his emotions maturely, he resorts to hurting everyone around her and sl*t-shaming Six, all while fu*king everything with bo**s. This hypocrisy is infuriating.
4. Controlling Behavior: Phoenix doesn’t even allow Six to interact with his best friends, which could have added much-needed depth to the story. A healthy, brotherly relationship between Six and his friends would have been a nice touch, but Phoenix’s insecurity ruins this potential dynamic. If he can't trust his own best friends, then they're not really his friends.
5. Lack of Character Development: Despite spanning three books, the friendship between the boys lacks meaningful development, reduced to mere cohabitation and occasional gaming sessions. This missed opportunity further weakens the story.
6. Poor Communication and Overuse of Se* as a Solution: The plot resolves misunderstandings with minimal communication and excessive se* scenes, which diminishes any real emotional connection or growth between the characters. This approach feels lazy and undermines the narrative.
7. Problematic Female Lead: Six’s lack of self-respect is incredibly frustrating. She forgives Phoenix for his abusive behavior because he wrote her letters, gave her luxurious gifts, and got tattoos of her on his chest like a psycho. I’ve been in a relationship where I wasn’t happy, and despite how much I loved that person, I chose to leave because I valued my own happiness and well-being. Six’s decision to stay, despite the abuse and mental depression Phoenix caused, is not just disappointing but embarrassing.
8. Glorification of Abuse: This book glorifies an abusive relationship, and the female lead’s lack of self-respect is disheartening. It sends a harmful message that love can justify any behavior, no matter how toxic or abusive, which is simply not true.
This book is a disappointing portrayal of a toxic and abusive relationship, lacking both depth and positive character development. As someone who has been through difficult relationship experiences, it was painful to read about a character who doesn’t choose to protect her own well-being. This narrative is unhealthy and sends the wrong message about love and relationships.

I normally don't do reviews because I'm not good at them. But I can NOT let this one go without a review. The first two books? Magic. This author writes in a way that I can literally see every detail of the story without getting too lost. Spice? Over the top. But I was worried. Because the build up to a book like six and nixs? Sometimes the hype is better than the book. BUT NOT TODAY JESUS. we got the absolute perfect book for them. And the perfect level of spice. This was amazing. Thank you khai hara!
This was INCREDIBLE. I was anticipating Phoenix and Sixtine’s story and this did not disappoint one bit!! The backstory was satisfying and the miscommunication made complete sense, unlike many other times when it feels like the two characters just need to talk it out, haha.
Their chemistry was absolute perfection; every time these two had a scene together I was on the edge of my seat!
Also I love a good grovel, and this one absolutely delivered on it👀 (Rogue could use some tips from Rhys and Phoenix lol)
Another great thing about this series is how the other characters and relationships are incorporated into them as all three books have a similar timeline. We get new information and scenes to develop the characters who aren’t the focus without it being too repetitive. I’ve definitely grown to love Rogue more after the two sequels. This is one of the best and most fleshed out ensembles in a romance series I’ve read in a long time (and dare I say EVER).
I’m so excited for Nera’s story!! Desperate to know more about her love interest😭 And Six’s parents too, so excited for the new series to expand this universe more!
I hateeeeee him he is just so toxic and psychopath. He hurt her first SIX fucking year made her believe that he hate her because of his brothers death he treated her like shitty garbage bag or worst than that. He simply chose hating her over communicating or letting his anger go. If someone loved the other person even if it’s only one side even then no one treats there loved one that shitty. If compared to tristan he was a greeeeen forest. He broke her trust and grovelled for 4 freakinggg months 🥺🥺 and our so called pheonix just send some extravagant luxuries gif and some hand writtern letter for just only 10 daysss. Idk why even Six went there to listen to him. She should have moved on from him a long time ago if she had a bit of self respect because she deserves a guy like Tristan not like Nix.
How can she just forgive him only by seeing 27 tattoos on his body related to her???😤😤😤
I expected him to grovelled the way like Tristan but he didn’t even match 1% of his level of determination. Im my opinion he tried to lure in by using money and not even his own but his daddy’s money.
This book left me breathless! Like there is no air left in my body. How am I still living with no air!?! I have been waiting for Phoenix and six's story since the first book came out. Khai hara built up their relationship in book 1 and book 2 and she fucking delivered yall!! This book was everything and more! Its rare for a book to get me hooked after a the first couple chapter but this series here had me hooked from the beginning! Phoenix was everything I hoped he would be. I knew that calmness he showed in the other books was not the real real him and knew that when his book came out we were gonna see a TOTALLY different side of him. And boy did we. So possessive and the jealousy was exactly what I needed to see from him. And six was no spineless girl either . she grew a backbone that was made of steel! She did not take that betrayal laying down . she expected a grovel and man did that grovel come perfectly! Lmao hard did it again !
this is definitely my favorite book in this series. I really enjoyed reading phoenix and sixtine’s romance. this book had a great second chance romance, angst, pining, and an obsessive/possessive male lead.
however, there was one thing I did not like about this book. phoenix was a manwhore who literally forbade any guy from being with sixtine. she was a virgin while he was out being a hoe 🙄. luckily, there’s no other women drama or scenes in this book, but I still hated that he was a hypocrite. I don’t like to read about virgin female leads and manwhore male leads so that prevented me from rating this higher than 3.5 stars 😭. the romance was still really good and I was invested in the story, but I just didn’t like the whole hypocritical aspect in the book.
What a story - who doesn’t want a hero like Phoenix?! If you like over the top jealousy and the grumpy/sunshine trope, this book is for you, it’s not overly dark however would recommend reading the trigger warnings if you are triggered easily
At this point, I don’t know why I keep torturing myself by reading this series. Why are all the MMCs in these books such complete jerks? The level of disrespect toward the female leads is honestly exhausting. I thought no one could be worse than Rogue, but Phoenix somehow proved me wrong.
Phoenix was straight-up abusive. He never lets Sixtine move on, constantly humiliates her, slut-shames her, while he himself is sleeping around freely. One of the most disturbing parts was how he took her virginity in a dark, dirty alley and when she resisted, he actually told her she didn’t deserve anything better than that. That line alone made my stomach turn.
And the lack of consent doesn’t stop there. He tattoos her name on her body without her permission, all while planning to leave her before their engagement. The hypocrisy is unreal.
Sixtine disappointed me deeply too. She endured his hate, humiliation, and violence without ever truly standing up for herself. She let him manhandle her repeatedly, accepted being treated as less, and still gave him access to her body despite how cruel he was. What made it worse was her reaction later she was happy when Phoenix broke someone’s arm for kissing her after asking her on a date, yet she had no issue being spanked and giving her V- card without her much say in it. That contradiction was incredibly frustrating to read.
Another thing that annoyed me was how these MMCs act like mafia kings or powerful villains, when in reality, they’re just rich boys surviving on their parents’ money and status. The attitude does not match the reality.
That said, I won’t deny that this book had more emotional depth than the previous two. I did enjoy reading about Phoenix and Sixtine’s past, and that was the main reason I was looking forward to their story in the first place. Unfortunately, both characters ended up ruining what could have been a compelling second-chance romance.
Overall, this book left me frustrated and disappointed. There were moments of emotional intensity, but they were overshadowed by toxic behavior that was never truly challenged or addressed.
technically i finished this book a month ago haha. the reason i held off from finishing this book is because that would mean i’ve read every single book written by khai.
hence, meaning i am officially hung over and in desperate need for more ARGHH.
on a real note, this book was filled with the perfect dosage of angst, love, and action. i ate up every single crumb of it.
i freaking love khai and her mind. phoenix and sixtine were perfect
🖤 childhood enemies to lovers 🖤 grovel 🖤 OTT protective/ possessive mmc 🖤 intro to future books for first gen 👀
1. The blurb is so misleading. It makes it sound like they were together and he broke her heart. They were TEN and Phoenix had a childish tantrum because he thought that Six liked his brother more than she liked him so he turned into a vicious bully and raging a$$hole. 🙄🙄 2. I've never met a 10 year old boy that would: *regularly hug a girl friend *tell a girl friend that he loves her *kiss his twin brother *use a word like "cryptic" in conversation *carry a wallet 3. Phoenix is a freakin' physcopath!!! 4. "Against my better judgement, my hand moves up until I cup the side of her tit. The touch is innocent ..." Since when is touching a woman's breasts without consent "innocent"??? 🤬🤬🤬
Seriously, I can't read any more of this piece of total $hit book.

Feel like some readers got a different book from me. There are so many reviews trashing the story because of OWD and there’s literally nothing. There’s a scene where a girl is kissing his neck but he’s not interested in her in the slightest. Plus Six and Phoenix were nowhere close to being together so why is this a big deal? There’s a lot more OMD imo. Six doesn’t like any of them but Phoenix is extremely jealous and possessive. The drama comes mostly from that. And the fact that they both think their love is unrequited. Anyway, another 5 star from this author. Thank God. I thought I was cursed to read 4 stars and under in 2024. Spice level 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of this world. Very explicit.
