First Date

Rate this book
First Date , Book Two, the continuation of Drunk Log : It was a dark and snowy night, and Jack and Aria should have been dead. Instead, they find themselves shivering on a riverbank, having survived a fall from the bridge into the currents and debris of the Ohio River. Lucky enough to slam into an anchored barge, they emerge from the water stunned, bruised and still somewhat drunk. Now they must work their way through the muck of the riverside to solid ground. Fully intent on ending it all just minutes before, Jack finds himself clinging to Aria for dear life—a life he feels just might be worth living after all. Follow Jack and Aria through the next eight hours of their story—hours harrowing, ludicrous and poignant—as they grapple with law enforcement, EMTs, firemen, and the medical system. Confronted by an over-zealous sheriff’s deputy, the formidable Nurse Rita, and a drunken priest with anger management issues, they are forced to navigate the immediate aftermath of their bifurcated bar crawl through a blizzard. First Date is a story of individuals haunted by suicide, remorse and unanswered questions whose answers are not to be found in the bottom of a bottle. Secrets are revealed and souls are bared, but answers are still elusive. For now, they only have each other, a notebook and a teddy bear.

Review:

👉Talking about the title of the book, the title of the book is really so interesting to read.

👉The cover is appealing and attractive. Writing style is quite awesome.First Date is a story of individuals haunted by suicide, remorse and unanswered questions: questions whose answers are not to be found in the bottom of a bottle. Secrets are revealed and souls are bared, but answers are still elusive. For now, they only have each other, a notebook and a teddy bear. This one is still set in Cincinnati, but centers on its unlikely couple, Jack and Aria, who now must face adventures in exciting locales like a stinky riverbed, the back of a police car, an ambulance and a hospital. Very funny and also deeply touching, "First Date" is an excellent follow up to "Drunk Log." The book is a wild ride through a psyche evaluation, a no-nonsense and in-his-business deputy, a fist fighting priest, and the bar tender who Jack may absolutely be in love with it.First Date is a beautiful look at a second chance, recovery, and hope.

When I read the first book, "Drunk Log," I wondered if a large part of my enjoyment of the book was that it was based in Cincinnati and was rich with references about my home city and its color? I am sure that added to it, but reading book 2, "First Date" solidified my understanding that Mark Scott is just a great writer and tells fun stories. This one is still set in Cincinnati, but centers on its unlikely couple, Jack and Aria, who now must face adventures in exciting locales like a stinky riverbed, the back of a police car, an ambulance and a hospital. Very funny and also deeply touching, "First Date" is an excellent follow up to "Drunk Log." Again, I must thank Mark for providing me with my new go-to gifts for my avid reader friends who are seeking something new. It's always tough to give books as gifts, because people are so easily offended, but since this one has very little bad language and would likely get a PG rating, I think it is something everyone would enjoy. It's a quick read, and I hope it leads to a second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth date and then an awesome honeymoon adventure.

I enjoyed reading these books, although I preferred the second book. The first book is understandably a little difficult to read due to the nature of the story, and perhaps that is why I didn’t enjoy it so much. There are some triggers for people who may have experienced similar traumatic events, but the story unfolds with enough sensitivity and humour that I feel it carries well. I connected with our protagonists Jack and Aria, and I can imagine myself joining them in the bars on the night of their dramatic and life changing activities. Their adventures in the hospital in “First Date” are very amusing, and something I can totally relate to having been a patient in the emergency department myself. The books made me feel sad, made me laugh, and finally made me feel happy, and I look forward to reading the third book in the series.

Having survived their plunge into the icy Ohio River, Jack and Aria’s saga continues. And Scott, once again, delivers with his wry prose.
First Date, the sequel to Drunk Log, is a darkly humorous tale of rebirth, search for redemption, and blossoming love. What else does a reader need? Can’t wait for the third and final installment of this trilogy!
