Fantasy is not my preferred genre, but I had heard such good things about this book, I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. This book is really good and I liked it. If I were more interested in fantasy, I think I would have loved it.

“Gods & Angels” by Ophelia Wolf comprises a vigorous love tale between Lyla and Max, and the former’s shocking actualization of her true genealogy, which leads to more startling and unsettling exposures.

As Oprah Winfrey famously maintained, plenty of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. Such was the circumstance between two best companions Lyla and Max, who would never permit anything or anyone to come in between them. Lyla’s morality stood questionable after being in nine foster residences and half a dozen academies. She had the utmost disregard for authority, and her bad attitude had seen her prospect of ever attaining stability thrown out continuously. Max’s wide hands were, however, always open for solace, and from the look of things, Lyla was quickly coming to acknowledge his deep and unconditional love for her.

Max’s expectancy for a lasting commitment would be cut short by a gruesome occurrence that left him bloodied and lifeless, after being ripped open by one of the scariest creatures Lyla had ever seen. She would find herself letting out an enraged yell as she was charred with pain from losing Max, who happened to be the only good thing to ever happen to her. As readers will learn, Lyla had in her possession magical proficiency that she knew nothing about. Her ancestry had equally been sheltered from her, and her lover’s extinction would come out as mere collateral damage by some entities whose interest in her would be unveiled by unpredictable visitors from a completely distinct sphere.

“Gods & Angels” by Ophelia Wolf has been beautifully penned into an ideal love story that quickly takes a twist to a world of fantasy facets full of personalities that readers will find fascinating. It is a text that will bring a tear here and there, as readers behold the protagonist’s evolution from trauma and despair to potency and credit after going through absurd conflicts, ruthless hostiles, and life-threatening concerns.

It is conclusively a five-star debut fantasy read, that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages, owing to its bewildering content, remarkable diction, and soothing narration. It begins at a quick pace that doesn’t let go in between the chapters, giving its audience a satisfactory experience into the world of demons and angels that will take a long time to forget.

If you love fantasy and you're after something different, then I suggest you give this a read!

I fell in love with this book straight away. I've read quite a few books on Gods, Angels and Demons, but this was a take on them I'd never read before and I adored it!!

Lyla is an easily likable character, especially when it comes to her tainted past, and with the heartbreak at the beginning of the book, it only connects you to her more. Suddenly Lyla finds herself in a strange new world, and you learn as she does about the truth behind the Gods, as well as the reasoning for her past. I really enjoyed the author's explanations and descriptions of the gods, angels and demons, Hermes in particular really stuck out to me!

There were so many twists and turns throughout this story and it really, really kept me on my toes! I was so busy trying to take in all the details so I would pick up on the next one, that I missed the biggest one of all and the ending had me desperate for more!! Can definitely see myself reading this more than once!

I felt that it wasn’t really fair for me to rate this book as I had never read this genre before and likely never will again: hence, three stars. I found it very weird but as I read on, I did want to know the outcome. It’s a weird fantasy.

Really enjoyed…

… this one :)! Wonderful combination of the colours, that are drawing our very existence in an interesting painting: love, care, adventure, tragedy, etc…
