No book in the scripture reveals the glory of God and Christ in more splendor than Revelation. At the same time, no book has been more misunderstood or neglected. Yet God wants His children to know this book, and blessings are stored up for those who study its riches. Join John MacArthur as he explains each verse in a way that is both doctrinally precise and intensely practical. Taking into account the cultural, theological, and Old Testament contexts of each passage, MacArthur tackles interpretive challenges and fairly evaluates differing views, giving the reader confidence in his conclusions. The MacArthur New Testament Commentary series comes from the experience, wisdom, and insight of one of the most trusted ministry leaders and Bible scholars of our day. Each volume was written to be as comprehensive and accurate as possible, dealing thoroughly with every key phrase and word in the Scripture without being unnecessarily technical. This commentary will help to give a better, fuller, richer understanding of God's Word, while challenging the reader to a vibrant personal spiritual walk. A great resource for pastors, teachers, leaders, students, or anyone desiring to dig deeper into Scripture
John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
The MacArthur New Testament commentary series is a great way to dig into the new testament. It is perfect for the lay person to go in depth when studying the new testament. The first 11 chapters are covered and we see the beginning of the tribulation and wrath of God on unbelievers.
This book understands Revelation as a dispensation/futurists. This book helps in understanding how one comes up with certain theories and thoughts. Great read as always from pastor John.
I am not a scholar, as many other people have review MacArthur's commentary. The Revelation 1-11 commentary is also the first commentary book that I have purchased. I have worked with several young men ranging from seventh grade to twelfth grade that wanted to study through Revelation, so I purchased Macarthur's commentary in coupling with several others to teach through.
I very much enjoyed what Pastor MacArthur put together with this commentary. However, due to the difficulty with being able to complete thorough a Revelation commentary. So many verses build upon others, which then relate through many different possible perspectives, stances, and belief systems. MacArthur takes on the book from a central futurist perspective. Look up the term and become comfortable with it, that will help you understand his commentary.
Given that, I relied heavily upon what MacArthur put together. I very much enjoyed the read, learned, and produced a thorough study with it. Yet, I didn't fully rely on it to build my perspective of Revelation. I reviewed many different commentaries that were free from the internet. I recommend this work and I think it will bless you, but don't hesitate to also couple a study through it with other commentaries readily available.
I've read several different authors of commentaries and I just like Macarthur's style the best. He doesn't explain scripture in a "because that's just the way it is" or "because I said so" attitude. I love how he explain the original Greek and Hebrew text and how it translates. Also when he takes a stand on a certain belief he has more scriptural backup than a lot of others I've read. Revelation can be a hard book to read through but this helped simplify things.
