2024 I used this audio NKJV to listen as I read my KJV. Most helpful! A helpful tool for those who desire to read their Bible through in one year. Readings are usually two chapters in the Old Testament, a chapter in the New Testament, a Psalm or part of a Psalm each day, and a one or two of verses from Proverbs
Note May 2023 I was challenged by a great En,glish pastor and Bible teacher, David Pawson (1930-2020), on YouTube to read the Bible through like one would read Moby Dick.. It takes about 72 to 74 hours. I took it as a challenge in my spiritual life and my walk with the Lord. I wasn't as successful as I had hoped, but I completed the challenge by reading the Bible over the course of March, April, and the first 5 days of May 2023. Then, I began listening to the Bible and comments again and, by listening to multiple days at one listening, I completed it again by December 2023.
For anyone thinking about this audio version, I want to warn that there there are no easy points of reference as can be found in a printed Bible. No book names, no chapters, no verse numbers. Not even days 1-365. This became more and more frustrating as I got further along. I was in Revelation 19 when I touched the wrong place on the screen and was listening to Leviticus when I immediately discovered a problem.
John MacArthur comments are always helpful even when sometimes they necessitate personal correction.
Nine days late but I finished it! I was encouraged to do the read through the Bible in a year because of a speaker at our church. He was talking about the types of books he likied to read and discussing some of his favorites. Then he said he wondered what God would say when he got to heaven, "I wrote a story. Did you read it? What did you think? It took thousands of years and millions of people have died to protect it. Was it worth your time to check it out?" This made an impact on me as a reader. I love to discuss books, but the Bible was in a class of its own. I never thought of it as a "book". If someone told me a book had the history like that of the Bible I would want to read it because I love to read books that have had an impact on society. Here is the most important book ever written and I had been viewing my reading as a requirement that was a task to be crossed of my to do list. Now that it is part of my reading it is fun and exciting to see what new truth I can find or what lessons I had overlooked. Can't wait to start the next study!
My mom and I had started reading this Bible together last year and made it through most of the Bible! It was a great time to open up and talk about a lot of things in my life and it also made me realize that all of the ancient people in the Bible really weren't so different than me or any other person today. It's a REALLY good Bible.
broken down into daily readings by date... a great format to use when trying to read the entire Bible in one year. great for personal devotions and has study notes for comprehensive aid. read this for my first time reading through the entire Bible. Now I study out of my Life Application Study Bible New International Version.
Still best Daily Bible I've ever used. Great format and good notes to go along with each daily section. Enough to learn - not too much to keep you behind. All believers ought to have a daily Bible and this is a good one.
It's the Bible... what can I say? I like having a plan for reading. This does that. I have not succesfully read through in a year to date (I started in '06) But every year I read it non the less. If I miss a few days I don't sweat it. I'll just pick up on the date it is and read the missed dates the next year! So far (Feb 16, 07) I am doing real well!
Very good study Bible for helping me read through the Bible in one year. I like the mix of Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. I think I'm going to attempt a chronological one in 2015 :)
It took me a year, but this is a huge goal I had for myself! I've tried many times and never finished in a year, but I just completed the whole bible!! I could re-read it and still get great knowledge from it. I encourage everyone to try it! I'm so proud of myself!
The Kindle version is a extremely helpful Bible devotional tool. I really appreciated the easy links to each passage within a day's reading as well as the occasional commentary throughout the text. I highly recommend the Kindle version of this devotional Bible.
I've used this before for my daily Bible reading (on my Paperwhite Kindle) and I would use it again. For 2017, I am going to try a plan on the Bible app on my new iPad I got! :)
This is the fourth time I've completed this book! I'll do just the Psalms, Proverbs, and New Testament readings in 2020. I'll count it as a book reading/read. Love it!!
I finished early. I read both this version (the New King James Version) and the New Living Translation and would reference them back and forth. Like the other version, you get some Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs each day that you read.
Highly recommend it! If you keep up with it, you will read through the Bible in one year. It is the best history, success, life answer book, you will find.
Obviously it’s an excellent book, being the Holy Word of God but… I did not like the lay out. I found it hard to concentrate and I didn’t like jumping around. It was hard to keep up with the stories. But I did like the notes throughout, helps to understand.
This is my 2nd year going through the Bible with this book. I really like the way it breaks the reading into segments a portion of the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs for each day of the year and the short paragraphed commentary is really helpful.
coming to the close of a 2nd year , but if anyone is looking for a good way to read through the bible on a daily basis , i would definately recommend getting this book , i'm thinking of using it again next year 2012 ....would make a nice christmas present :)
p.s. i am updating my review because i mis-represented the content of the book , my thanks goes to another for pointing out my error... below is a better write up of the book :)
Description
Take a tour through the Bible with pastor-teacher John MacArthur - unleashing God's truth, one verse at a time.TM
The MacArthur Daily Bible takes a portion of the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs for each day of the year, with daily comments that guide and inform you as you read through the Bible in a year. John MacArthur's insight maximizes the benefit of each day's reading. If a commitment to daily Bible reading never worked for you before, this is the answer. With John at your side, there'll be no such thing as a tough portion of Scripture.
Finally finished my year-long reading of The NKJV Bible that I began last January 1, 2012. I didn't quite finish in 1 year, but pretty close. Not sure how many times I have done this now, but I hope it won't be my last. It is always such a blessing to read God's Word. John Macarthur's Daily Bible is a great resource to use if you are in need of a daily Bible reading plan. Each day has a portion of the Old Testament (beginning with Genesis and going through to Malachi), a Psalm (or portion of one), Proverbs, and a reading from the New Testament (beginning with Matthew and going through Revelation). It also includes helpful comments and notes throughout which I appreciated. I have read through other One-Year Bibles in the past but this is still one of my favorites!
This Bible took me a little over 13 months to complete. The Bible is a great book but the way this one was set up had its pluses and minuses. I liked reading a bit of the OT and a bit of the NT everyday but the way to Psalms was broken up to have some everyday way not great. Overall an enjoyable experience and I learned so much though this year. I will definitely do this again and it isn't the end of the world if it takes more than 12 months to complete.
The daily readings by either thought or action are linked to the old testament, palms, proverbs, and the new testament. There really is nothing I don't like about the book except the fact I don't have it in a book with pages. This is a great book for anyone who would like to be closer to God and become a better you. I'm still learning more about note taking with the e-reader and how to go back to the notes for reference.
I greatly benefited from this Daily Bible! It helped having my daily plan set out for me able to open up and have the daily reading set for me all year, it kept me motivated and on track. I enjoyed having the small commentary throughout the daily readings and the bigger commentary at the end of every day. I appreciate John MacArthur’s knowledge and wisdom on the Bible. I would suggest it for anyone who is looking for a daily Bible with readings from each OT, PS., PRV., & NT.
Amazing!! Took up the challenge by my pastor to commit to reading scripture EVERY DAY for one year. OT, Psalm, Proverb, and NT with a commentary by John MacArthur to reflect and meditate on EVERY DAY. Gained a deeper understanding of God's Word and how it is beneficial to use in our daily walk.
The first book I read every year on January 1 since 2008.
I absolutely adore this Bible. I am beginning my sixth straight year of reading through this Bible- Dr. MacArthur does an excellent job with his notes of explaining complicated subjects in each chapter. It is being held together with packing tape, but I'm thankful to still have this book as part of my time with God. It is an NKJV- just so you know.
Although this is not a preferred version of the Bible, I like the easy Bible in a year reading plan that is part of the book. It is also easy to navigate to other books and sections in the Bible. Another feature I enjoy is the daily study note included by John MacArthur at the end of each reading. I will continue to use this resource in the future.
Very nice daily devotional Bible. Each daily reading consists of a passage from the Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, and the New Testament. I read this four years in a row and am taking a break from it. I'll pick it up again in 2010.
Persoanally I find it harder to read the Bible with One-Year Bibles, apparently, since it took me way longer to finish this one. However, compared to other One-Year Bibles, John MacArthur's is one of the better ones because of his indepth and insightful study notes.
I've been using this book to guide my annual reading of the Bible for at least ten years and have found it and its commentary to be excellent and easy to follow and understand. I recommend it to anyone of any reading age.
I love this read it in a year Bible. It has great notes, devotionals, and a fantastic Bible memory plan. Our family is slowly but surely going through the memory verses.
