Asia Brito Guerrero is an eccentric, chaotic mess of a person who has written spooky stories all her life -- most of which are created from personal experience mixed together with a deranged imagination and unhinged ideas sparked from a lot of sleepless nights.

Asia currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her partners where they are raising many feral children together. She can usually be found on her couch watching Lord of the Rings (extended versions) on repeat with her laptop nearby, drinking too much iced coffee, and eating tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I believe that this was the author’s debut work, so I gave a lot of leeway for the messiness. The story was choppy at times and the ending was strange. It stated that it ended, but there was another fifteen pages of the story, which could have easily been integrated into earlier portions of the book. The plot was also a little rough and the latter parts lacked some of the initial atmosphere and intensity. However, it was a fairly unique premise and the antagonist (No spoilers) was really good. There were some genuinely creepy moments and I thoroughly enjoyed Robin’s journey of self-discovery, too. It never ends the way you think it will, but you’ve gotta respect the process. Overall, it was decent. Not the best showing from Asia Brito Guerrero, but, again, we all have to start somewhere.

“I am your mommy.”

Oh my… if you want a book that will make your heart stutter, this is it!!

You’re going to love the characters in this book (Nancy & Robyn especially), but get prepared for their torment, because this isn’t happy fiction. This is thrilling, bloody, shocking horror!

Robyn’s life has hit rock bottom; all the alcohol and lack of self care are catching up to her. An ultimatum makes her question her life choices and the possibility of redemption. See, something terrible happened to Robyn when she was a child, she just can’t remember what it was. It has something to do with her mother, but what hidden memories could’ve cause her life to spiral like this? A fateful hike leads to the ultimate showdown with a malevolent force.

The surprise ending will disturb you, and I am soooo curious what could happen if there was a sequel! Asia certainly writes a compelling story!

Well I did not see that ending coming 😳
Robin is a recovering alcoholic and has been sober for one year. To celebrate her sobriety she decides to go to the last known location that her mother disappeared from, 15 years before. While exploring the area with her partner, they get more than they bargained for.
I was enjoying the story but that ending was a shocker.

I love a good horror story with twists and turn! Unforgiving follows Robin and her journey to healing from a childhood that she can't quite remember. All she knows is that she lost her mother at a young age, so why does she have feelings she can't quite shake?
This story is unnerving and twisty. I think I have whiplash from the multiple surprises this book threw at me. Though I was able to predict a thing or two, there was still so much more lurking and waiting for me in the shadows of this story. The book is well written and done so in a way that it is comfortable and easy to read in one sitting!
Certainly looking forward to more from this up and coming author!
DO recommend: Awesome for those who are new to the horror/thriller community, those who enjoy mommy issues

Quick but sucks you in

I didn't expect to blow through the full book in one sitting but here I am, absolutely blown away. I'm not typically a horror reader but Asia may be changing that for me! The story pulled me in and wouldn't let go. The surprise ending has me GAGGING. I need more from this author!!

I cannot rave enough about this book. A book you simply cannot put down until the end and still want more. I was hesitant to read given that horror is not typically a genre I delve in, but so thankful that I did. Asia is truly gifted at using words to create such a descriptive scene you feel as though you’re experiencing everything the characters do. I found myself holding my breath more times than I can count. The twists in this book are absolutely unexpected and I was upset I didn’t immediately have a sequel available. I have no doubt that Asia will become one of the most successful authors of our generation.

A friend of mine raved about this novella so I wanted to give it a try. I am a very big horror fan, so I'm always down to give them a try.
Plot wise, this novella was really good, but lacked in suspense and elements typical to the horror genre. The plot didn't really pick up until around 50% and even then, it took a while to build in the last half of the book. Unfortunately the twist is easy to guess and didn't really shock me. As a novella, it was well written and had a good premise, but as a thriller/horror, it fell flat in my opinion.

Amazing debut from Asia Guerrero! There's a lot of little pieces to this story which all come together so brilliantly. I'd never have known I was reading a debut novella. Keep an eye on this author folks. She's gonna make the big time.

Asia delivered a MOTHER of a story! I really enjoyed her style of writing. Grammar and syntax were perfect! My first read of hers and she has a new forever fan! Now, on to the book ... I enjoyed Unforgiving. You can (sort of) figure the gist out on your on but Asia throws a few twists in there that make you go, WOAH, WTF?! Mothers are loving and caring, although what Robin's mother does is truly UNFORGIVING. Through the story you can understand the reason for her drinking, and that was relatable to my old life, especially in my 20s. I am so excited to read more from Asia and see where she goes!

This debut novella got points right for story and character growth for sure! I read this in E-book format, and despite some formatting problems that could be Amazon's fault, I was able to get past it to focus on the story. Some of the dialogue in act 2 felt a bit unnatural to me, and I wasn't surprised by any twists. As a debut, there is a lot of promise here and I look forward to seeing more from Asia.

An unnerving slow burn

A quick read, unforgiving is a twisted tale that leaves you guessing until the end. This story manages to leave a lingering dread that might haunt you for years to come.
Not overly graphic, the punch of horror comes from a place of deeper trauma and the uncomfortable realization that safety is an illusion.

Though there are some awkward aspects of pacing, as things jump around in ways that leave Chekhov's gun loaded but sitting on the end table, this is forgivable given the nature of a novella's brevity.

Though characters might be argued to be somewhat flat at points, their motivations and stories are rich making them easy to sympathize with.

4.38/5 for knowing what it wants and delivering on a dialed back extreme horror. It leave the reader feeling unblanced and peturbed.

Sometimes secretes might be better left where they lie.

This novella started off great, and it was so descriptive initially that I fully believed I had a one way ticket to splatterpunk territory. (Sadly, it was not, but there were some delightfully gory moments!) There are books that just make you react physically to the text, and this was skillfully done at several points in the book. I loved how immersive the story was.

It's surprisingly twisty given the length of the book, which took away from the momentum and credibility, at least in my experience. Overall, I'm glad I was able to check the author's work and I'll be looking forward to what else she writes.

I couldn’t put this book down and it was over before I knew it, I read it in a day! Her descriptions perfectly set the scene, I sad “EW” audibly at some points but I liked it. So many twists and turns and by the end your jaw is dropping on the floor. My first toe dip into the horror genre and I cannot wait for Asia’s next one! I was only upset when the book ended, very well written.

This was a 3.5 ⭐️ for me!
A fast paced thriller/horror that was hard to put down! The twists were a bit too predictable for me for the details in the writing kept me wanting more. I wish there was a bit more gore but for a debut novella this was a good read!! Perfect for spooky szn.

Asia Brita Guerrero's horror novella, Unforgiving, takes readers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The story's protagonist, Robin Ellis, is a young woman haunted by her past and grappling with a dark family history. She has spent much of her life trying to escape the traumatic memories that robbed her of a mother, burying them under a haze of alcoholism. But as Robin begins to confront her past and search for answers, the floodgates of her forgotten past burst open, unleashing a torrent of terrifying horrors and shocking revelations. Guerrero's "Unforgiving" is an intense and gripping read that will keep readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.

This book was a MOTHER effin' whirlwind of twists and turns, not to mention a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I was drawn into Robin's journey as she faced her inner demons and unraveled the mysteries of her past, even though I knew nothing good would come from it. I also found myself rooting for her despite feeling a sense of fear and unease as she delved deeper into the underbelly of her mother's disappearance. But what captivated me the most about Robin's character was her depth and complexity, not to mention her strength and perseverance to survive when held captive by her monster. Overall, I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for spooky season.

5⭐️ for this novella. I got hooked and couldn’t put it down. Read it in one evening. Although I figured out who the woman was who kidnapped them, I didn’t see the end coming. Massive twist. Lots of child abduction, child abuse, and alcoholism throughout. This novella made you so mad at not only people letting down women with postpartum depression because it wasn’t well known years ago, but also from how much the mum got away with later on! Such a good ending though! Great, quick read!
