This book had me on the edge of my seat from page one! Sweethearts is the final book in the Babylove trilogy of sapphic novellas, a companion series to Zombabe. I still haven’t read Zombabe, so I know there are some backstory parts I don’t know fully about, but that did not in any way detract from my enjoyment of this series.

Belle wasted no time with this one and jumped right into the action! It doesn’t take long at all for the strange things to start happening as they always do in Bulldeen. While the first two books were more about Zombie’s and resurrection, Sweethearts took a slightly different turn - possession! And that possession is brought on by a whole lot of revenge and a creepy town’s desperation to stay alive by any means necessary. It was a perfect way to conclude the series! Even though I really wish it wasn’t over!

And mixed in with all the dark and violent aspects of this story is the sweetest, most adorable sapphic love story. I have been rooting for Frankie and Ivy since book one. The goth and the cheerleader. Two seemingly opposite girls who become the best versions of themselves together. I absolutely love their relationship and how deeply they care for each other. They’ve been together since book one and have dealt with so many f*cked up things together. But they stick by each other, protect each other, fight for each other, and love each other through it all. No matter what. The two of them are more than just young love. They are goals. 🥰

I was so glad to see KJ from Sugarsnap (book 2) show up again in a fairly prominent role in Sweethearts. He was such a great addition to the story and I love Frankie’s friendship with him so much. KJ is the kicka$$ best friend everyone hopes to have, who always has your back and is willing to burn down anyone that tries to hurt you. Literally.

I highly recommend this whole series! If you are looking for some short, sweet, spooky sapphic books - go get them now! You can easily devour each book in one sitting! They are dark and delightful! Make sure to read the CW/TW first.

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Tropes:
– opposites attract
– secret relationship
– cheerleader x goth girl
– sapphic
– dark magic
– YA

PRO +
– I love that Frankie and Ivy are directly involved this time
– the way this book takes the finale of the last one and revolves the story around it in a way
– throwing “possession“ in the mix, that is so very interesting
– Frankie and Ivy are the sweetest
– Ivy and Frankie dreaming of their life in NYC: that makes me think true love exists
– KJ is fun, and I like his character growth so very much

CON -
– the second book has had more of a pull on my emotions
– could be longer, and more detailed, f.e. How does the whole possession-thing work? What is this dark power in Bulldean? So many open questions… don‘t get me wrong that knowing all of that is not necessary, but after reading 3 novellas I just want to know it all

Frankie and Ivy are my power couple. They are THE SWEETEST. They truly make me want to believe in true love – because if something like soulmates exist, these two definitely are soulmates. It is kind of funny and sad at the same time that Ivy‘s parents don‘t see it (well, I like to think that at the end they noticed and just never really talked about it) However, regarding the whole zombie-/spooky town-story, I like the route this takes in this final book. In the other novellas it has been always someone else, but in this book, it is them. And I think it is so very simple and clever how this novella ties the knot to the second one. I would have liked to learn more about the origins of Bulldeans dark power and how all of this works, but the novella is not rich on answers to those questions. However, when it comes to the characters I can‘t help but appreciate it regardless – definitely a character-driven story in case you wondered. Aside from Frankie and Ivy, KJ is also one of the stars. His character growth is such an important and beautiful part of the story.

Queer horror is winning these days and I love to see it. If you love violence, supernatural horror, and a couple you’ll root for all the way to the end. Then this story is for you. Belle’s an incredible author I would urge people to read more of. There was a genuine heart to this story readers can relate to. The desire to leave your hometown and go to where you won’t live in secrecy of who you are and the need to protect a loved one at all costs. I think Frankie is a very lovable protagonist that readers, goth or not, will love to bits. Ivy is also a well thought out love interest and not a stock character cheerleader. Some great side characters are present as well like Ivy’s parents and KJ.

I know this is the end of the trilogy but I am looking forward to HONEYBLOODS where they will make an appearance. I honestly had no idea when I agreed to be an ARC reader I would like the book so much. Hopefully now with queer horror growing in popularity, I.S. Belle can be an author who’s leading the charge.

Sweethearts concludes the Babylove trilogy and it really does go out with a fiery bang. It follows our favourite heroine cheerleader x goth duo for some more crazy, horrific, dark adventures. What could be worse than your sister trying to literally eat your girlfriend after snacking on your girlfriend’s psycho ex-boyfriend’s brain? Well, Bulldeen once again delivers on the HOLY SHIT scale with this novella with a different twist to the first two books in this series.

This trilogy has covered some classic horror tropes while maintaining the sweetness of young sapphic love. The love Frankie and Ivy have for each other through very traumatic experiences blends sweet and eerie with a dash of snark and wholesome friendship quite spectacularly. Their relationship warms my heart. As always, Frankie's sass is fantastically prevalent. I think this book might be my favourite in this series. I’m a sucker for a good paranormal story and I.S. Belle honestly nailed it with this. I was so happy with how she brought things to a close...the girls fought SO hard for their happy-ever-after and my soul was screaming YESSS! I loved that we got to see more interaction between Frankie and KJ, as well as some full-circle moments with other characters and the overall story development was done well with zero plotholes. Which made it very easy to become engrossed in the story.

3,5/5 liked it better than #2. I still had a really good time reading, I just don’t think I’ll remember much in a few months unfortunately. So that’s mostly why the rating is kind of low.

I did finally felt something significant reading about Frankie spoiling all the secrets to Ivy’s parents just for them to brush it all off. I wish they’d try to convince more people, and someone actually listening. Also still don’t understand this Bulldeen monster but maybe Zombabe will make more sense of that

sweethearts is my FAVORITE of the babylove novella miniseries!

it has much more horror balancing the romance this time and i really enjoyed how belle made the horror unique from the previous two novellas. it gets more into the nitty gritty and living body horror rather than distant bodies we only kind of know.

i wholeheartedly recommend this book and the entire series for a bite-sized sapphic horror fix - it was a genuine good time and i can definitely see myself coming back to read them all again.

thank you to i. s. belle for sending me an ARC copy of sweethearts! ‪♡‬

Full disclosure I was one of the ARC

I liked how the power of the town is significantly diminished. It relies on human hands and since it too weak to lay a finger on the girls. After the Huge public display from Prom it was a pleasant subversion of expectations. If you want big action where the town or the world needs to be saved this is not that story. The stakes in this are life and death yes but personal. Small in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes ordinary people are all that is needed to stop evil.

Frankie, Ivy, and kJ are intelligent. They have learned from the past and quickly deduce their true threat. In spite of the traumas of they keep moving forward.

The three of the would make Willem Arondeus proud.

"Two weeks until graduation. And then the rest of their lives."

Graduation cannot come soon enough! The girls are ready to kiss their smalltown goodbye and never see it again! New York or bust!

But Bulldeen itself isn't ready to let Frankie and Ivy go. The two face one more challenge before they can claim the future they want. The future of being able to hold hands in public and not be looked at with terrified eyes. Only can they overcome this final attack against them or will the dark magic win?!

"They were so close to getting out of here. What was one more horror?"

Our girls have been through so much and have only grown closer and stronger! Frankie and Ivy want to finally be free of judging eyes and harsh words/rumors. No longer having to hide their love for one another or play off their closeness as just being really good friends. It's 2005 and in a smalltown it's hard to be open about being lesbians.

I so enjoyed seeing the girls coming of age arc from book one to this final installment. Wanting only the best for them but certain things aren't about to let them go so easily. Our girls have to literally fight their way out and forcefully claim their future! I loved seeing the little subtle changes the girls made to their appearances showcasing how they are rubbing off on one another.

Closure is a big thing with this final installment and tying up loose ends. It's hard enough leaving everything you know and are comfortable with behind but then add in the darkness of the town! The horrors that people just try to shrug off or ignore. Ivy and Frankie have to face them one last time and it is very personal for the girls.

I enjoyed the YA horror of the book and got "Stranger Things" vibes as I read. Some people believing in the unexplained events of the town and some thinking it as nonsense. The horror was well written and depicted. Some of the scenes may be a little gruesome and detailed out. There's bloodshed and violence along with one scene of an animal death.

This book does contain language because Frankie is not one to hold back. The book is in Frankie's POV only but as third person POV. I loved my girl's attitude and how she felt toward certain situations. Even remaining calm in moments when others would rashly act out. I respected how she already knew what she wanted and stood up for it/went for it. Ivy also learning to spread her wings and let go of the standards others held her to!

This was a really good ending for the trilogy, and I am going to miss them! But there was mention of them having cameos in a new book that Belle is writing! I love this author's writing style and the YA horror. Nailing all of the vibe checks and some!

Enjoy the final part of Frankie and Ivy's story and don't forget to give the author some stars!

I truly LOVED the closing of this novella trilogy! Belle's Bulldeen is a wildly compelling world and this closure both of the trilogy and (I believe? for now at least??)[SPOILER!] Bulldeen itself brings all the paranormal and also banal horror of the world back together.

Beware, there be spoilers ahead:

Things I love, in no particular order, that Sweethearts does beautifully
- the bright one goes dark
- a new twist on the previous supernatural world
- returning characters! we love a (literal) revival!
- parents to queer children who are so comically unaware its cute
- the slow, true, process of embracing the self

I could say a lot about the horror of this trilogy, but one thing I loved throughout was the wrenching portrayal of being queer in the early 2000s, particularly in a small town. The relationship between Ivy & Frankie - which was always precious but at moments, for me, in the second book didn't feel as fleshed out or genuine as it could be - becomes so much more real as they move towards New York, both literally and figuratively. Because that move pushes them towards really embracing themselves and moving past the fear of that identity. It's a valid & earned fear, but it's still always beautiful to see ourselves overcome it.

I loved the world of Bulldeen, I think it was a brilliant idea and I'm glad this trilogy continued to explore it. For me. the Babylove books never recreated the true, visceral, creeping horror that I felt throughout my reading of Zombabe. And part of that is a reality of the story - this one is just that half-step further from Bulldeen itself, and that makes the difference. But I did love seeing the grasping end of that character itself in this book. The last moments where it is begging for it's own life, in particular, were really compelling, and ask such a good question about the nature of evil. More depth than you'd expect from a cute, queer, teen(ish) horror huh?

All in all, a super fast read, compelling, and a fun story - I have to recommend!

“We’ll handle this, alright? Whatever this is, we’ll figure it out, and then we’re out of town. New York, New York. The city never sleeps, and no one spits at us in the street or steals our blood for dark magic.”

Sweethearts was even darker and more thrilling than Babylove and Sugarsnap, something that I did not imagine would even have been possible!

Just when secret girlfriends Frankie and Ivy are on the verge of finally escaping Bulldeen and its cursed existence, the town's malice makes another swipe at them. The girls are attacked and drawn against their will into a dark ritual of ruthless forces that aim to consume Ivy and end Frankie altogether, spelling doom for their plans for a future far, far away and free from their town's dark history.

This third installment in the Babylove series, like Zombabe (set in the same universe), is at its core, a story about battling and surviving generational trauma and horrors. The stakes have never been higher for Ivy and Frankie and their very lives and futures are at risk from the malicious entity that has haunted their small town from its inception, and uses its most corrupt and twisted denizens as its gullible pawns to further its power. Rooting for Frankie and Ivy's love and their freedom from Bulldeen in this book is but natural, and echoes rooting for an optimistic future for queer teenagers everywhere.

I greatly enjoyed the storytelling and the progression of the plot, as well as the maturation of Ivy and Frankie as characters and of their relationship. The crumbs of information about Babe and Dude (from Zombabe) and Kate Higgins and the hint of danger that the author drops in Sweethearts makes me further intrigued and excited about the universe she is building and further books set in it!

frankie and ivy and the purest couple to exist and you cant convince me otherwise. they are LITERAL soulmates and i actually love them SO MUCH
ivy driving frankie literal hours outside their shitty, tiny hometown into one of thr big cities where they can shop for dresses together without getting bullied because frankie is a goth lesbian, and then frankie giving up on finding a nice black dress for the homecoming but ivy keeping on going to stored to find one? im crying. frankie calling ivy ‘princess’ and ‘sugersnap’? actually so sweet (normally i hate wierd pet names but sugarsnap has an actually adorable meaning behind it so i’ll let it pass). just overall they are so precious and so clayolivia coded and i adore them

“Ivy,” Frankie mumbled. “Phone.”
Ivy pushed her icy feet into Frankie’s shin.
“Jesus!” Frankie flailed, twisting around to wrap Ivy in her arms.
“War criminal. We agreed on no cold feet fights.”
Ivy made a sleepy noise against Frankie’s collarbone and snuggled closer. Frankie smiled into the pillow. She couldn’t get up now.

that being said this was very much a horror paranormal book and the romance was a big part of the plot but not really the main plot and whenever there wasnt some cute moment between ivy and frankie i could NOT tell you what was going on at all. truly wish that the author wrote frankie and ivy’s relationship in a romance book because i would’ve actually given that a five stars

Sweethearts concludes the Babylove trilogy in great form.

Having a sapphic YA love story mix so well with the creepy and eerie is such a feat. There is something to be said for books that manage to cover both spooky and sweet simultaneously.

The last book of the series confirms what the previous books have told us. Namely that nothing is ever straightforward in the town of Buldeen. I am, as ever, in love with the characters we follow. Ivy and Frankie grow on me more and more with each book. Over the span of the books, they get pushed into a great number of absurd situations, leaving their lives filled with gore and grime amidst any and all happy occasions - such as completing high school and planning your life with your girlfriend. Because balance.

And I just love how they show their love. The way Frankie loves Ivy is honestly one of the best parts of the book. It's refreshing to see pure, mutual teenage love go untainted amongst many complications.

I recommend this book for anyone who would love a spooky sapphic tale to fill their time, as it truly is a joy to read, both for the characters and the twists and turns of the plot.

I was given the book as an arc by I. S. Belle, but the review is all my honest thoughts.

🖤🥮🧟🔥🩸

It's a bittersweet ending for such a spooky sweet series.

Sweethearts is the last of the Babylove trilogy and it was equal parts spooky, sweet, and engaging.

I love the characters, I love how much Frankie loves Ivy and how much she's willing to do to protect her. I love KJ and the way he fits into their little trio. I loved how he pretended to be scared but really is that friend you can count on when your life is in danger. I didn't love the town's attitude towards Frankie and Ivy, but that's what you get in a small conservative town, who don't believe in anything but the norm.

Being a novella, you can easily read in one setting, but the thing about this novella is that you wouldn't want to put it down until you're finished anyway because the writing and plot are so good.

You must read the series in order, Babylove, Sugarsnap then Sweethearts. I recommend this series with all my spooky sapphic-loving heart.

Thanks to I.S. Belle for a copy of the ebook. This review is left voluntarily.

"You can't have her," Frankie said. "She's mine and I'm hers. We belong to each other, you aren't anywhere in that equation. Hear me, sugarsnap?"

What an amazing ending to this amazing series!!

Hopeful horror is my new favourite genre --- we get the gore, we get the creepy and we get our well-deserved happy ending!

From undead kitties, haunting sisters and now a demoniac possession (by no other daemon than the shitty ex-boyfriend), Franky and Ivy had their fill. After everything they have been through, all the crap Bulldeen has to offer, my girls fought hard for their happily ever after and I AM HERE FOR IT!

I love each instalment of this series, where stakes kept getting higher and hope seemed almost lost, but then it all comes to a very satisfying ending!

I had the best time following the goth girl and her cheerleader sweetheart.
Awesome redemption arc for KJ too.

I absolutely recommend this novella series, and while you're at it, the Zombabe novel too!

By far the best of the Babylove series. If somehow you’re not into the first book, this one makes it worth pushing through. It’s scary, sweet and campy, full of early 2000s nostalgia. The goth x cheerleader trope the first book was built around is reimagined and rebuilt with stunning character growth. In “Babylove”, Frankie is a snarky goth girl and April a typical cheerleader. By “Sweethearts”, they are far from the high school archetypes they start off as. They change for each other - and it’s not your typical “Grease” transformation. They don’t change for each other - they are in love with each other just as they are - but they evolve because of each other. It’s beautiful.

I wish I had had the Babylove books as a young teen, and I’m glad to have them now. They are my new comfort books, and I’m sure I will turn to them on many a rainy evening, like they’re a zombie-flavoured cup of hot chocolate with a strong dose of the sapphic.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely read again. While I haven’t yet read the main series ZOMBABE, this book (and those preceding it) have definitely made me want to!

As someone who signed up as an ARC reader not fully knowing what to expect, the series definitely pulled me in. I don’t typically like supernatural/horror types of books, but this was a series I would go back to. The horror elements (if I can call it that, they were mostly tame in my perspective) were neatly tied in and didn’t seem forced, and I enjoyed the few plot twists that were added.

The overall lack of context was the only thing I didn’t enjoy. If I was to ARC read again, I would ensure to read any joining series as this did make some parts of the book(s) having to be assumed.

Overall, five stars for brilliant writing, sapphics (be honest, that’s what we’re all here for) and the intriguing story we were given.

The school year is over, just two weeks to graduation, and they can finally leave. Except it seems that something is afoot, and the cursed town doesn't want them to leave.

The third and final entry in the series, and in my opinion the best of them. It builds on what came before, of course, but also offers something fresh while tying everything together. Their love for each other, a form of reconciliation with their families, ish, and the final attempt of the towns dark secret. It isn't easy for either of them, but they remain strong for each other as they try to make it through the mess that they've been thrown into.

I really enjoyed it, seeing how far they'd come, what they meant to each other, and a really sweet and fitting epilogue as well. A fitting conclusion to the series, though not the end of their tale, as they make a cameo appearance in Honeybloods.

Amazing book, I absolutely adored how it was written. Tbh I like the last chapter, but I do believe the story would've been a lot more satisfying without it, and thus leaving room for interpretation.
But given how the characters will cameo in another piece, it does make sense to start off their new life the way it has been described.
What I found a bit frustrating is how Mr. Martin didn't seem that fleshed out and had no real motivation, he felt like the personification of a dummy, and he reminded me a bit of the Other Father in Coraline, except that the latter was somewhat of a literal dummy.
But I'm so excited to keep reading books from the author, I think they'll only gonna get better from here.

Another great installment of the Babylove series, this final novella puts our girls through one more round of horror before they reach graduation and their plan to escape Bulldeen comes to fruition. I like how each of the three stories has a different but related kind of baddie to fight. Easy to read and follow, great scene setting, blood and gore, and of course our two MCs still supporting one another through it all. Nice action and pacing is good. My favorite part is the relationship between the two and their friendship with KJ. It is consistent throughout in how they love and encourage each other and how they treat each other with respect. They really are the sweetest. The Babylove series is a lovely little YA horror romance and I highly recommend it.

4 stars. This got released early because it wasn’t supposed to come out until 2024. So glad that it came early because this was so, so good. It feels like a finale for Ivy and Frankie’s story which makes me sad but it was a fantastic way to end things for them. They’ve both been through so much so their HEA was very hard earned. This one was definitely my favorite. Ivy gets possessed and it was seriously intense and action packed. Everything wrapped up well and I can’t wait for the spin off book to come out. This was an awesome series and I need to go back and read Zombabe because I want more of this world. A fantastic series and I would highly recommend it.

best of the three :)

the lastest string of creepy circumstances surrounding bulldeens "two friends that just happen have sleepovers almost every night but its ok because thats just what friends do some times"

Frankie and Ivy are some grade-A heart-squeezing cuteness.
I love Franky and Ivy, It's a story I would have day-dreamed for myself in the 00's. (14 year old me would have found Frankie SO COOL).

the amount of times I mentally went "dun-dun duuuuuun" for dramatic effect 😅.

Frankie and Ivy are eagerly planning to leave Bulldeen, but Bulldeen might not want them to leave quite yet, and you'll have to read to find out why. The final chapter harkens back to the same romantic scenes and warmth in the earlier installments, while also building on themes of friendship with a more prominent role for KJ! And of course, still the gore and mystery. Delighted (and also sad!) to see the conclusion of this harrowing and heart-wrenching series!

4.25. I.S. Belle’s little town of Bulldeen has really grown on me throughout this series. Frankie and Ivy have come so far together, and this conclusion was very exciting and satisfying to read. These characters are so charming, my only critique being I wish we got a little more time spent on studying what makes them all tick. You can only fit so much into a short novella, however, and I don’t think this story is lacking in plot or execution. The Zombabe-verse is one created with lots of love, and it definitely shows. Can’t wait for Belle’s upcoming books in the new year!

3.5 stars, rounded up.

This is the final instalment for Frankie and Ivy and I was hoping they would be able to overcome the horrors of Bulldean and be able to live their best life.

This novella had a mystery aspect to it as it focussed on Frankie try to figure out what was happening to Ivy and I was devouring this novella to figure out what happened!

I'm so glad I decided to pick up these three little novellas as the stories are delightful and I can't wait to reread them in the future.

Thank you to I.S. Belle for the review copy.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHUT HOLY SHIT!!! I just finished this and I couldn't have hoped for a better ending to the babylove series. I absolutely loved this all of the other books by I.S Belle. I'm so happy my girls could have a nice happy ending in NYC while still healing for their scars from Bulldeen.
in short I loved this and definitely recommend everyone read all the books for some spooky gays dealing with spooky shit <3
