I Love to Hate You

Rate this book
Most people wouldn't accuse me of being a good person, but most people don’t understand me. Hell, I’m not sure I understand myself sometimes. All I know is that my life has been a challenge, and the day-to-day grind of all wears me down.
I graduated college with a degree in marketing, and have just been brought on to be an intern at an ad agency. Contrary to the chaos in my home life, things are looking up … until I learn that Kendrick Kennedy will also intern for the same agency.

I met Kendrick just before graduating college, and out of everyone at Temple U, I hated him the most. I hated the way he intimidated people. I hated the way he always spoke his mind with no filter, and I really hated having to admit that sex with him brought out things in me that I never knew were there.

Now that we’re forced to work together, my hatred for him has returned, and so has the fire in my belly that burns only for him. I can’t stand having him around, but as our lives grow even more complicated, the man I loathe becomes my haven and the source of my greatest pleasures. He doesn’t try to put out the flames within me. He fans them, and together we burn hotter than the sun.
We are chaos and beauty combined, and Kendrick just might be the exact thing I’ve been craving this entire time. Now, if only we can get over our BS.

What can I say, WS Greer is the King of Spice. Once again he has delivered another steamy read for all us to devour.

Maya and Kendrick are both on the cusp of finishing their marketing degrees and pursuing their goals of landing their dream job and leaving the rough neighbourhoods they call home behind them. As much as Maya and Kendrick loathe each other the sexual tension and chemistry between the pair is palpable. Once the pair finally give in the spice is undeniably hot with Kendrick being dominant and not taking any crap from Maya and her bratty ways.

“I’m going to put you in your place, my little brat.”

WS Greer has outdone himself with this book, the story itself is great and the spice is phenomenal. This is one of those stories that will break you and put you back together again in the best of ways. It’s definitely a must read for anyone who loves a contemporary enemies to lovers romance.

Interesting

The writing in the story was good. It took a minute to see the leading characters. The male point of view writing style was different,it read more contemporary with some of the phrases used. It was a longer read, that could have concluded for me with less pages.

This review will contain SMALL spoilers..

I have been looking for a Male smut romance author since I started reading Romance, and I finally came across WS Greer. He had ARC sign ups for his book "I Love to Hate You" and I IMMEDIATELY signed up. I honestly could NOT wait until I had this book in my possession.

This book had me in ALL my feels. It had me cracking up, crying, feeling pain and resentment, and most of all Love. And if you haven't read it yet, I suggest you all STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING, and go get this damn book. It is available on Kindle Unlimited for all you Kindle Readers.

When I first started reading this book, I honestly had no idea what I was going to expect. It followed the 2 main characters Maya and Kendrick. Both had an awful up bringing and it was just so Raw that I felt everything that they both went through. They met at the end of college and then became colleges. This enemies to Lovers was to Die for! It also contained some spice, which I really enjoyed. The protectiveness of Kendrick over Maya just pulled at my heart strings. They were absolutely MADE FOR EACH OTHER.

I am also pretty sure that WS Greer also mentioned 1 or 2 of his other books in this Novel which I thought was absolutely Amazing! BE YOUR BIGGEST FAN! I loved that he did this.

My favorite part, "you finger Murderer!" had me dying with laughter every time.
Also, the Cover is a part in this book. Be on the look out.

I absolutely Loved this book. GO READ IT.

I am such a sucker for enemies to lovers trope and this was such a great read! It was a little cheesy but I definitely enjoyed the pure hatred for how much they liked each other and neither of them wanted to fight it or be the first to admit how much they enjoyed each other.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review, all thoughts/opinions above are my own.

ARC REVIEW 🫶🏼

Right off the get go you can tell that Maya is going to be a character who’s story is going to suck you in. *Cue ‘Bad Reputation’ by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts*

Kendrick doesn’t disappoint either - he immediately gave dark and moody, misunderstood villian turned superhero vibes.

The banter & IRL references had me chuckling - when you put two strong willed people together, it’s bound to be full of the best kind of tension, sarcasm, and 🥵🔥chemistry🔥🥵

This book really checks all the boxes:
- characters with tragic backstories and fiery personalities you want to read about
- HOT spicy scenes
- Enemies to lovers
- A redemption arc & character “on the come up” story
- An emotional roller coaster of a plot that keeps you flipping pages while laughing, gasping, and sobbing over and over again as the story progresses.
- First person Dual POV writing style

All in all this was a phenomenal read and I’m so glad it was my introduction book to WS Greer as an author.

I loved this story between Maya and Kendrick. Their hate turned into love and wanting more. Both Maya and Kendrick have the same goals. Graduating, getting a good job and leaving their neighborhoods was something that they wanted to accomplish. They need to learn to work through their past and present life and family struggles to get a fresh start that they both want.

My only downfall on this book was how much they talked about lashing out at others while they were in college. With that being said this is still a good read that kept me not wanting to put my phone down.

I received this book as part of an ARC reading.

Realistically this is a 2.5 star read. Not bad, but for me it was not a page turner. There were some cute moments that made me smile and the spice was decent but the overall it was pretty average and mediocre. I love a good enemies to lovers trope but I felt like Maya and Kendrick were not that… they felt more like I am going to try to hate you but secretly have always liked you …. Which, I guess, it could be argued that this is the point of the story. But in my opinion, enemies to lovers should have more substance. Like I said, overall not bad, but meh.

A Soft and Sexy Masterpiece

A song that fits this book lyric for lyric is You Da One by Rihanna; brief thought I had when I finished this book. W.S. Greer's books get better each time, that's a given. And he's done it again! The pace of the book was just perfect. You are instantly invested because the characters feel so alive and real, on every page. Oh and the banter? It's hilarious and so full of tension. The chemistry in this book is like no other. The way they communicate with each other is so full of emotion and everything is beautifully written.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐:
Kendrick and Maya have this intense connection, even when they did not know much about each other. Their chemistry will just blow you away! And their stories are so full of life in the sense that they experience so much. The author truly focuses on character development and that happens throughout the book, not just in the last 3 chapters and I love it!

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️:
Spice written by W.S. Greer is always top tier in my opinion. Oh and the dirty talk in this book...I won't spoil anything on here as usual so read it to find out!

I'm now going to be binge reading this author's books. I just have to meet all these characters, read about their different stories and everything else!

This E2L trope was a end of college surprise connection between two people very similar at their core. The relationship development was excellent. The male narrator didn't seem to fit the character described. I would have given 4 stars if the MMC was different.

This book is unlike anything WS Greer has previously written. He took enemies to lovers to a different level. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found the book easy to read and made my way through it pretty quickly. The MCs did get on my nerves a bit because well they were literally getting in their own way of being together. They did redeem themselves and the last 1/2 of the book I ate up. I read it in about 2hrs.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - death of a parent (recounted x1, on page x1), alcoholism (secondary character, on page), parental neglect (on page), parental abuse (on page, father throws beer bottle at her and points a gun at her and mentioned RE the MMCs father), parent who resents their child, verbal abuse from a parent (on page, throughout) bullying (both MCs are bullies / mean girl /guy while in college), parent with cancer (Hodgkin’s lymphoma), parental abandonment (mentioned), drug dealing (past, mentioned), micro aggressions (past, recounted), death of a friend (gun violence, surgery, on page), assault / harassment (in a club, secondary characters towards the FMC), violence, domestic violence (father to mother, past, mentioned in passing), grief, gun violence, alcohol poisoning (on page), mourning, depression

CW - brat tamer, restraints, gags, sensory deprivation, power exchange

Tropes - possessive, obsessive, workplace, mental health rep, enemies to lovers

I immediately felt for the FMC. She's defo going through it and I felt like her feelings of hopelessness whilst also trying to keep herself together is something that a lot of people can relate to. However...... I am not a fan of mean girls but was happy to see her grow out of that shit.

This was a cute story. The FMC wasn't my favourite which is why it didn’t get 5⭐️ BUT I did enjoy the story and the journey they went on together. I appreciated the character development, especially Kendrick’s (MMC). There are quite a lot of triggers in this book so please heed the TW at the beginning of this review as there is not one included in the book.

Both MCs have been dealt a shitty hand and are just trying to make it out in an environment that doesn’t cater to them and also doesn’t have many people from the same background which, unfortunately, can be the case for a lot of POC and/or people from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Both MCs are mean girls / guys / bullies in college which I honestly found wild because at that age, it is very childish to be acting like that 🥴 and i was not here for it at all

I enjoyed the MCs together, they were cute an defo spicy, Kendrick is 🫠🫠 yh I would get on my knees for him any time

I loved the nod to WS Greer’s other books scattered throughout and it really did heighten the reading experience for those that have read is other books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book ! I've read plenty of books that try to show bad neighborhoods and describe them but they always come up short. As someone who grew up in terrible neighborhoods in the Bronx it just made it unrelatable speaking about something that didn't quite sound right .

Ws greer was great at depicting the hood and highlighting the emotions and attitudes of so many who still live there and dream about leaving but just end up selling drugs or dead. This book brought so many emotions out of me . I teared up quite a bit as I could relate to so many things . Kendrick and Maya's relationship was hot and anyone could see the tension between them but they wanted to deny they wanted each other because of how similar they are.

You will feel annoyed, pissed , disgusted , destroyed and lust while reading this and you won't be disappointed!

*ARC REVIEW* I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers and have read others by this author and I was shocked that he did it again and sucked me in on the first chapter! Maya and Kendrick are so relatable, not only as characters but their stories as well! I absolutely loved the moments they shared. Their banter and love are next-level. The emotions I felt in this book are on a whole new level. It definitely made me cry. The writing is so detailed it’s almost like being able to watch a movie in your mind while reading. With the spicy scenes and “chef’s kiss” I would recommend this book to everyone!

Dnf at 7%. The main FMC is just a straight up bully and a bîtch. All her internal monologuing is about how she hates everyone and how it’s such a chore to keep herself from killing people. Along with how her reputation isn’t always her fault because people annoy her so she has to take care of them the only way she knows how which is quite literally to beat the crap out of them. She’s a major bîtch to her boyfriend when he’s trying to make a joke because she has drunk daddy issues. Can’t power through anymore of it

What's wrong with the MCs? The FMC acts like a bully to everyone in school and fights with her boyfriend for stupid reasons just because she has drunk daddy issues. The MMC smashes tray across a boys face because the boy's brother refused to teach him for his finals and advised him to study himself. Not my kind. Dnf at 9%

I give this a 4.5/5 ⭐️. I received an ARC of this book, and I’m on the author’s street team, but my opinions of this book are completely my own.

I loved Maya and Kendrick’s story. While this was a story about two young adults from “the wrong side of the tracks” overcoming their upbringings to break the cycle and make a new life for themselves, it was also a truly unapologetically black story. While I didn’t necessarily relate to the hardships they faced, I could relate so much to the challenge they faced of overcoming people’s perceptions of them. When Maya described how Amy would call her ghetto for her curly hair and her “attitude”, I connected so much to that. Or when Jacob made his “you people have to learn to stop looking for handouts” comment, my blood was boiling because I understood the unspoken context a little too well. You could tell that WS Greer wrote from personal experience with this book. He articulated the black experience so well in a way that those that get it, will connect deeply.

Now to Maya and Kendrick’s chemistry. I may have had to take one or two cold showers reading this. From early on, the chemistry and attraction between the two was electric, and you could feel it, even through all the hate. It was interesting though, because one could argue that they never really hated each other. Initial conflict was based on their perception of each other, but once they got to know each other, the “hate” stemmed purely from a massive miscommunication. I appreciated that this book was truly a first act breakup, rather than the typical third act breakup/miscommunication trope. These two characters truly grew and matured over the course of the book, so when they did hit a major conflict, they were able to work through it healthily.

I truly loved these characters and their story, as I always expect from WS Greer’s books, the spice was turned all the way up. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good, spicy, unapologetically black romance story.

Ok so I literally just finished I Love To Hate You last night and man was I completely blown away . Im actually still sitting here speechless and trying to find the absolute perfect words to express all the reasons I not only fell in love with this epic love story but why you need to run as fast as you can and read it ASAP . But truth be told there just aren’t any perfect words to do it enough justice . What I can and will say is that it’s not often I come across a book that has the ability to not only captivate me but to make me feel as many crazy and wonderful emotions as Kendrick and Mayas journey did . There were times I was speechless and times I was literally glued to the edge of my seat yelling outta pure frustration, then the next second my heart would feel like it was breaking yet I could not stop myself from rooting so freaking hard . It was like being on emotional rollercoaster not knowing which way was up and which way was down . this was my very first time reading WS Greer so I was just expecting your typical young adult lovey dovey romance. But this is so much more then that . It’s so beautifully written and I extremely emotional . Both Maya and Kendrick come from similar backgrounds ( they don’t live in the best neighborhood and have a lot of emotional baggage they are still dealing with on a daily basis . One of the things I loved most was how WS Greer so beautifully writes from past to present which allows us to experience all stages of their relationship from college to graduating to the future If you are a fan of enemies to lovers romances that have lots of angst , humor , witty banter , obstacles, off the charts chemistry, second chances, drama , unexpected surprises, heartbreaking and heartfelt moments, tragedy, intrigue, non stop action, phenomenal world building and characters that are sure to grab onto your heart so tight and pull you right in life - Look No Further. I Love To Hate You is a 10/10 a must read

Hned v úvodu recenze vás poprosím o dvě věci, zaprvé zahoďte předsudky vůči mužským autorům a zadruhé nenechte se zmást touto nevinnou obálkou.

Enemies to Lovers
🩵Protective MMC
❤️‍🔥HOT spice
🩵Heartbreaking Pasts
🩷Strong FMC

This was my first book by WS Greer and I’m so glad I took the chance to read it! The best part of this book was absolutely the characters. I felt like I got to know them so well both individually and together, and that made every emotion in this book land just right.

I couldn’t stop laughing at the phenomenal banter between Kendrick and Maya. They start off on the wrong foot and stay there, but it makes the tension building so much sweeter ❤️‍🔥 Their jabs land perfectly and they burnt the book up with their chemistry. Maya won’t take crap from anyone, and Kendrick won’t let anyone get away with disrespect 😉

Kendrick’s moments with his mom made me cry almost every time. There was something that felt so genuine and special in those scenes, and I absolutely adored her. Knowing all that Kendrick has been through and what he goes through in this book really made me feel for him that much more.

Mayas past broke my heart, and what she had to continue to endure made it so so much worse. How she found the strength to still be true to herself and stand up to everyone and everything was amazing. Really well done FMC!

Highly recommend this book if you enjoy contemporary, enemies to lovers, love-hate-relationships with hot as he|| spice scenes. Oh, and men who follow through on their threats to protect their girl 😈

There are times when enemies to lovers can be a miss for me as I tend to despise the MMC so I get frustrated, but Mr. Greer definitely wasn't part of that list as he created his MCs who each gave as good as they got. See, Maya & Kendrick met in college, and hated each other but they still lit the sheets on fire at a point but it was only the one time. They both have baggage from their pasts, and Maya's definitely had me ready to bawl like a baby so they have some demons they have to deal with. They end up meeting again when they're both interning for the same company, so let the sexy games begin. These two sizzled off the pages with all that chemistry that exploded into serious heat but it was all of their interactions that had me very much entertained throughout. I'm not gonna lie though, I did get frustrated here & there when they couldn't get out of their own way, but I couldn't stop turning the pages for anything. I loved them both equally, and I was cheering them on the whole way because as a team, they could be able to take over the world, but will they finally become that team?! Well, you'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Whew this book 😮‍💨🔥 I discovered WS Greer from Interview with A Sadist and I was hooked on his writing. Every book I read, he just doesn’t disappoint!

Kendrick and Maya both come from rough neighborhoods and emotional pasts that cause them to act out on others. They say opposites attract, but these two are the same and their connection and chemistry are off the charts. Because of this, they have this banter back and forth with one another that I loved!

Their romance starts out in college which then leads to being interns at the same marketing firm. Even with their pasts, they work together so well both inside and outside of the office. Maya has a horrible father that she has to deal with, while Kendrick was dealing with grief from his friend.

These two were one of my favorite pairs. I loved the connection Kendrick has with his mom, it was so beautiful to see. 🥹 but man, did that man have a dirty mouth that I loved! 😮‍💨

If you love an enemies to lovers romance, go check this book out! 🫶🏻

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

First let me say the spice of this book was off the charts like hellllooooo. Ok Maya and Kendrick.. The things they both went through was sigh SOOO much. I'm truly amazed Maya was so well rounded. She didn't give up and stayed true to herself. Kendrick-same goes for him. The scene with his mom, I loved that. It made the book way more realistic imo (it was a tear jerk moment).

This was my first book by this author and now I gotta go binge read the rest. The story is full of spice and angst. Survival and staying true to yourself. I love how Kendrick was all out from the beginning and was ready and willing to do ANYTHING for Maya.

I was really happy when the characters got out of their head and started seeing each other in a new light. The love between them was Amazing. If you like the enemies to lovers trope this is definitely for you. Definitely worth the read. Will be recommending on all fronts.

Y'alll..Kendrick and Maya!

These two met in college and couldn't stand to be near each other.. until the night they could, but of course life had other plans and their one night was just that. One night. Until they end up getting internships at the same company post graduation. When their hatred for each other turns into something else it is entirely too hard to put the book down! Maya loves to push his buttons and Kendrick has no problem putting her in her place.

I always always always search for the mean ass MMC's. I JUST LOVE THEM, OKAY?! so when I saw WS Greer start advertising this book I was alllll over it. He had me at enemies lol, but what I wasn't prepared for was to read about a mean ass MMC aaaaand a mean ass FMC! Maya can dish it back just as quick as Kendrick can dish it out and I absolutely LOVED reading about them. "I Love to Hate You" is seriously the best title for this book and I am so excited for y'all to check out K&M on

It’s been a hot minute since I read WS Greer and I got all kinds of excited when I learned he released a new book out into the wild, and as soon as this hit my e-reader I put life on pause and immediately dove in (much to the detriment of a work project lol).

I do enjoy a good enemies to lovers story, and goodness knows we get all that and then some with Maya and Kendrick. The animosity between them gives second hand uncomfortable vibes, but they finally smash? Ooh child, best grab some ice water and keep it nearby!

One of the things that really kept me engaged in this story is their individual background stories; they’ve both been through some heavy incidents, and my heart broke for what Maya is still continuing to endure at home. Knowing what they’ve each gone thru in their personal lives definitely shaped who we meet, and there were times I wanted to shake them because of their decisions, but I couldn’t put this down and highly recommend this to everyone!

I love to hate you
I loved this book from the start and it had me gripped

Maya as made her way through collage as don’t mess with me, she has been though a lot and not one as really taken the time to know her, in walks Kendrick some one everyone says away from and speaks his mind.
Maya and Kendrick meet each other just before they finish collage and end up sleeping together, but then they don’t see each other till they end up in the same intern in the same company.
They both same to have a lot going on and at every turn it same’s something new is against them, but with her body only wanting Kendrick and Kendrick is always there to help her can they make it work or is there to much hate there.

the spice in this book was of the charts

I loved this enemies to loves book and this is the first book I have read by this author and would read more of this authors book

🖤 ARC REVIEW 🖤

Enemies to Lovers 💕💕
STRONG FMC/MMC

This is the second book I have read by this author WS Greer, and I have loved both of his books! His writing style is absolutely incredible! I love how he brings the characters together.

Maya and Kendrick get off to a rough start, between Maya’s past that will break your heart💔💔. Kendrick and his mother’s moments they have together! The authors just know how to get to your heart with their stories!

You will laugh at the way Maya and Kendrick go at each other! I love how they came together and the name he calls her!! There is just enough spice in this book to bring it to what it needs!

The spicy 🌶️ scenes where on point!! They were most definitely hot when it needed to be hot!! Just enough spice for this book!!

I definitely enjoyed this book!! I will be reading more WS Greer books!! Thank you for a great read!!

Another great book from W.S. Greer.
Yes... A male author who writes great romance books!

The coming of age trope is not typically my favorite, but because I am a big W.S. Greer fan, I gave this one a chance.
The two MC's have been named the bullies of Temple University and can't stand to be in each other's presence. Regardless of how much these two loathe each other, their sexual tension and magnetic pull is undeniable and palpable. Unbeknownst to them, they share similar backgrounds and fit together more than they are willing to admit.
I Love to Hate You is a bit different than Greer's other books, but that's because he chose a more impactful plot, focusing on very real struggles that many people go through.
With a sufficient amount of plot, character development, and a nice sprinkle of spice, I Love to Hate You was a great read.

Highly recommend this book and W.S. Greer's back log of books.

Kendrick and Maya both have more than their fair share of emotional baggage, and they loathe each other, but they are unknowingly from similar backgrounds. This story develops around their time in college, to graduating, and into the future.
This is a beautifully written story which the 5-stars just does not give it the justice it deserves.
This story is an enemies /lovers’ story, with is an emotional roller coaster, with intrigue, angst, tragedy, drama, humor, witty banter, family, friendships, heartbreak, surprises, second chances, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, haunting, tragic, unpredictable, and steamy addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I Love to Hate You, was a spine-tingling, heat filled, enemies to lovers' story, Maya and Kendrick also gave me some great laugh-out-loud moments, and it was delicious how Kendrick took control in the bedroom, they may believe they hated each other, but the sizzling heat coming of the pages says another story, one you are going to love.

Maya and Kendrick are both ready to leave their old lives behind from a rough neighbourhood, now just finishing marketing degrees new opportunities and a new life are just around the corner, but that is just going to be the start of this couple's bickering, heat filled story to their HEA, a few knocks along the way only make them stronger when they finally realise that love and hate are two sides of the same coin.

Enemies to lovers is my favorite trope. This one was a bit tame, they quickly became something, but enemies wasn't that. I thought it was very lovey dovey.

Their background and that of their families came to the fore too much for me.

But I thought it was a good story. I love that Kendrick goes all out from day one. They are both unafraid to show their feelings. They explain everything to each other. So there is certainly no miscommunication or hiding things.

Maya and Kendrick were made for each other.
