Here are seven original scary stories that are Saturday night screamers written especially for middle graders. Sure to give readers shivers every night of the week!
Sherry Shahan is a photographer and an author. She enjoys watching, photographing, and writing about the otters that play in the sea near her home in California. Sherry also wrote and photographed The Changing Caterpillar for Richard C. Owen Publishers.
I'm usually a fan of anthologies and seeing that this was from Sherry Shahan (writer of blowtorch@psycho.com from Bone Chillers, as well as an entry in the Eerie, Indiana book series), I was excited for this. Most of these stories were pretty forgettable, though even the ones that weren't great still had redeeming qualities. This was clearly meant for young readers, which is made apparent by the stories going out of their way to educate the audience. (Shahan's favorite subject in school was science, if I had to guess) I wanted to give this a lower rating at first, but this was a short and fun read that I'm definitely not upset with. Although I won't go in with super high expectations, I look forward to reading more of Shahan's horror stuff.
