A widow at 42, Abby Wells has poured her heart into the restoration of The Roses Inn, a historic Niagara-on-the Lake establishment reputedly haunted by a 19th-century ghost. In walks Jason Brinleigh, a gorgeous winery owner nine years Abby’s junior, intent on buying the place from her. The transaction falls by the wayside as Abby and Jason fall for each other. But the scars left by past loves run deep, challenging them both to surrender their hearts. When unexpected events threaten to tear them apart, will it take a little intervention from the spirit world to set things right?
The corset cover is misleading. She’s a widow - husband complete ass - and hero is neighbor. Nine years difference but not really an issue. Reads realistically. Spark but no instalove. But the romance is missing or light at times. Seems kind of unfinished, could have been longer. And maybe it’s a Canadian thing or a rich elite thing but they were very formal with each other.
After the death of her cold husband, Abby is in the process of rebuilding her life while renovating an historic inn. When Jason walks in, hoping to acquire the property, sparks that had existed between the two at a previous meeting are instantly rekindled. But it'll take the meddling of the inn's ghost to get these two people, battered by betrayal, to learn to trust...and love...again. A heartwarming romance that will make you believe in love through the ages!
not a bad little book, but not memorable either. heroine is a widow, who had been married to a man who, for 20 years, constantly put her down, so our poor heroine is 40-ish and very unsure of her attrativeness to men. our hero is younger than she is by 9 years, which spooks her more than it does him. there is a haunted B&B owned by our heroine, an unexpected pregnancy, and the requisite HEA.
The older woman/younger man scenario is not usually my type of story however this one was quite refreshing and realistically portrayed, with some sizzling hot scenes. The spooky elements gave it an extra zing to this story!
It's 2 1/2 stars actually. It's a sweet story but... yeah, it was just that. The ending was predictable and cliche. Other than the ending, I quite liked it.
This was a quick read but worth it. The storyline was interesting and moved at a pace that was comfortable for the reader. Would recommend for a good read.
