The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring Photo Guide by Alison Sage is just that, The Fellowship of the Ring from The Lord of the Rings in photo guidebook form…by Alison Sage. Apt title, that.

Photo stills from the Peter Jackson directed films take precedence over the text. Big ol' color pics splash across each page...







Scant text regarding the storyline and quotes taken from the movie mingle with the images to give the reader the plot basics. It's like a colorful Cliffs Notes designed for a 10 to 12 year old, and by the looks of the handwriting in pinkish peach magicmaker that was undoubtedly the age of the person who owned this book before my wife picked it up for me for a quarter at a Friends of the Library book sale in Studio City, CA. So, if you're reading this Andy Marroquin, I've got your book.

Good Christmas present, beautiful pictures inside but feels a bit incomplete due to the book jumping from event to event.mostly it have to do with little text explaining the story. Fun complement to own.

After my recent reading I was inspired to dig out my old LotR tie-in purchases (2001-2004), which obviously I bought as a completest fan who got totally caught up in the hype of the films. Which is why I can't help myself buying all the Hobbit related stuff too.

This is particularly rubbish. I basically bought it for the pictures at the time. If you wanted an idea of the story before watching the film, don't bother with this. You'd just be more confused. I can't help but notice that Alison Sage didn't go on to write the following two 'photo guide' books, and one can't help but wonder if 'it was a bit pants' was part of the reason. It's mostly just quotes (which are oddly inserted and don't help tell the story), with some descriptions of main characters and the main plot points. It also abruptly stops at Lothlorien, but that was due to it being put out before the film so they wouldn't have wanted the end of the film to be revealed in a children's story guide.

A great addition to add to a permanent children's collection of books. These books have a multitude of pictures on glossy paper, so they are enjoyable to look at. This is written for kids and introduces each of the heroes in the Fellowship movie, so it is a perfect introduction to the books or movies. I just finished reading this one to my son. This book is only about 60 pages (maybe??), so it can be read in one or two sittings with little guys and gals following along. I loved it.

I would buy these little books avidly in the hope to get a glimpse of the movies as soon as possible. Then, I thought them very thrilling. Now, not so much. The Art books are the ones worth buying, these are just fun little snipets.
