Frank's got the interview; it's his big break. He just has to convince two formidable women from the corporation and he'll have his chance to get back to Russia. But somehow, history is working against them all.Wild East premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in February 2005.
I saw this at the Royal Court Theatre as part of a class. I think I was the only person in the class who liked it: but I did. A lot. It's claustrophobic, and absurdist, and it refuses to hold your hand for a single second. It feels like everything I love about what theater is capable of, when at brass tacks it's just people talking to each other in a room.
Last year (2020) I re-read the script for the first time in 15 years. It was even better than I remembered: dark, hopeful, hilarious. I'm glad De Angelis is still putting her work out into the world.
