Brooklyn came back to herself only to find she almost took her friend’s life. Drowning in guilt, she blames Dominic for his rash decisions which brought them to this point.
She’s not giving up though.
Alice wished to be anything but a simple human. Could there really be something that can shift the sands of time in their favor? There are so many things that could go wrong.
Will Alice awake to a long-desired reality or a horrible nightmare?
There is always a price to be paid when you make a deal with Fate. The sacrifice is greater when you make a deal with the devil himself.
Brooklyn was more than ready to pay it and have Alice back.
Well, she thought she was ready.
Friendship is what binds them together, and friendship could be what tears them all apart.

Realy do like this series. However it's becoming extremely difficult to know who is saying what. More characters have been added and though it's a rather awkward situation, it seems that things seem to be changing.
I had to give up at 65%. The plot was all over the place, but not actually going anywhere; there were so many spelling and grammar errors; I no longer liked or cared about any characters. They all seemed to turn into caricatures of themselves. Dominic made me want to slam my head into a wall and Brooklyn wasn't much better.
This book starts off with oh so many emotions! Guilt, confusion, anger, uncertainty, despair. Now that the bloodlust has abated, Alice's life hangs in the balance, she's fading fast and guilt plagues Brooklyn. It was her unintentional bloodlust that caused Alice's state, so yep, guilt, guilt, guilt! Dominic too feels remorse for his actions but he was in a predicament, he HAD to act. The various characters all have their own set of recriminations, the to and fro, the barely contained accusations are spot on! My best is Sabir, I love how the super controlled, super cool Sabir comes undone. Why? Oh....a human has him spinning....him, the most unflappable of them all HAS a heart! Go figure...
The author really has taken the characters and turned them inside out, polished them all until each one shines in their own right! That's one of the things I love when reading a Maya book, I'm not sure if a character is going to be sunny side up or down, but never losing the juiciness either way! Heck, I'll take it anyway it comes! And boy does it come! Brooklyn is slowly shrugging off her reservations about the fated mates thing, a few wobbly moments but I released a huge sigh when she finally allowed it to sink in! All the while I feeling so much sympathy for Dominic! What an awesome guy! He gives her space yet cannot help the deep basal urge to claim her, to make her his, all the while trying to contain his beast. Yeah, poor guy but what a sweetie! Ok, not when they're at risk, then he's a killing machine.... which happens more frequently than any of them would like, seeing as the Syndicate is hellbent on recapturing Brooklyn.
As I mentioned, the characters are transparently complex, I couldn't help liking them all but I think my new favourite has to be Alice. Oh my word is she, heck, I don't know WHAT she is! Neither does she for that matter! But she's hilarious and badassed and fiercely entertaining! I love the twist on this previously sweet but mousey character, her growth was superb! I can't wait to see where the author takes this Sabir and Alice thing, cause there certainly is a 'thing' going on! The addition of Echo and Chester solidifies how easily Maya introduces cool characters and yep, they DEFINITELY are cool! So our new additions, plus Alice two point O, take up the battle of getting rid of the Syndicate with our emotionally charged heros, for awesome action and lots of comical relief! Except....yes, there had to be an except.... I was NOT expecting THAT to happen to Alice! No siree, I literally jumped out of my chair in despair! So I'll have to grit my teeth and hold thumbs that Brooklyn and crew prevail and hound Maya for the next book!
A great plot and story, wonderfully fast paced and always a great fun read, the romance is low key but I feel the heat emanating from Brooklyn and Dominic as if a dragon had breathed fire on me. Just lovely...Loved this book! It's gritty, it's humorous, it's fun!
Maya has brought us back into the world of Brooklyn, Dominic, Alice and company. She NEVER disappoints as her books always deliver beyond our expectations. Filled with snark, humor, relatable characters, action, intensity, and romance. Oftentimes, parts of the series she writes will either have you laughing out loud or crying, you become so enmeshed in the story lines. I did all of these things with this recent addition.
Alice, the human, as they refer to her, is back with a vengeance! She is definitely my favorite character in this series. She awakens after suffering a horrifying attack from her BFF who was out of control with bloodlust. Her coping mechanism is in contrast with the way she has grown into her new persona in the world of supernaturals. It has become a way of life for her now; and she is rocking it! The Syndicate and Council are hitting with hard packed punches and en masse now that things have leveled up!
The relationships and bonds that have developed through the life and death scenarios have made all of them a family. Two new members shall make an appearance in their fight to destroy those who believe in world domination and subservience. The parallel dynamics of Brooklyn, Dominic and his panther shall evolve from a tightrope to a deep satisfactory intense raw feeling of completion. Samir and Rowen will also display how their connections to those around them have changed them in many ways as well.
Alice is a huge question mark at this point in the game. The way she is healed, the powers she will use, it is a conundrum to the reader and the other characters as well. Is she really a Mimico? Or is there something else in her lineage that is just now marking her as a weapon to be coveted? In the final battle scene, Brooklyn will experience a touch of Déjà vu, but at whose expense? It is a scene that left tears in my eyes and wanting to shout and holler at the author. I have already reread this story three times and still cannot seem to break away. I can only now sit in anxiousness and tenterhooks until the next book comes out to discover what happens next to all involved! Each book levels the players, the games, the action, suspense, drama, romance…and my level of anxiety continually in an upward spiel that makes your head spin with everything that occurs! Grab the series today to start your newest addiction and adventure!
Argh. I just finished this book, and if it wouldn’t break my e-reader, I would have thrown it against the wall. First, though, let me say that it’s good to be back in this universe with everyone, but especially Alice. She’s such an intriguing character and a great foil for Brooklyn, our main character. I love the recent character additions, and I’m hoping we find out more about them. As for why I wanted to throw my e-reader? The end was a kick in the teeth, and I felt just like Brooklyn, and I was stunned. Read this and find out what that is. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This was yet another great instalment of this fantastic series. I enjoy each one even more, as we get to know our characters better! Alice is still my favourite... sorry, Brooklyn and Dominic! Although I do absolutely love these too and watching Brooklyn learn to trust and accept what's happening there.
The ending, though!! You are in for a cliffhanger that will leave you going OMG!! I totally can not wait for the fall out from that in the next book, lol.
Maya is so amazing at writing. You are drawn into the worlds she creates so well that it feels like you're part of the adventure.
I was lucky to be gifted this book and am leaving an honest review.
The need for revenge against the Syndicate, AKA The Black Hand, hasn’t abated for Brooklyn, Dominic, Alice, Samir, Rowen & the 2 newest additions to the team. They’d be Echo & Chester, demonic siblings that are a much needed & welcome asset at this juncture of the series. Everything has escalated at this point in time. It ends in yet another cliffhanger but I’m invested at this point so I’ll continue with the series. It’s a very good story. Highly recommend.
It has taken me 3 days now as I binge read the Infernal Regions for the Unprepared series and I still have not been disappointed.
From the epic fight scenes, the love story between Brooklyn and Dominic, what is going on with Samir and Alice and how villainous the villain is - how I hate you Frederic - I have not been able to put this down.
Today is my wedding anniversary and poor hubby has had to wait for me to complete book 4 before we head out...not told him I have started book 5...
I absolutely love this series so I was eagerly awaiting this release and it didn't disappoint! The main characters are one of my favourite groups out of any series to date and I loved getting introduced to new members who I hope return in the book 5! There's a strong story line and plenty of action to back it up, it definitely leaves you wanting to know more. Great series, highly recommended!!!!
I don't want to be cruel when the author has obviously been struggling, but this book was just not up to par. I felt like maybe she rushed getting it out because she was behind, but the poor book suffered because of it. There were myriad editing issues, voice problems ( no one sounded like they had previously), and it was so short, and ended on a rather obvious cliffhanger. As a reader, I feel for the author, but this should have been held until it was truly ready.
Holy cliff hangers Batman! There is so much character development in this book! Growing love and friend ship. Strength of loyalty and major questions of loyalty. And of course Alice and Brooklyn proving once again how bad ass they are. I can’t help but hold my breath for what happens next! I’m watching you… if you know you know haha happy readying!
5 Star - Couldn't put this book down. Its stay up late reading and be late to work good. 4 Stars - Couldn't put this book down but I still got a goodnights sleep 3 Stars - An enjoyable read that took me a few days to a week finish 2 Stars - An okay book that I struggled to get through in places - next book is still on my TBR list 1 Stars - DNF
Place of Torment, the fourth book of the Infernal Regions for the Unprepared series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). The angst and the action keep going into book four. The relationship between Brooklyn and Dominic felt strained, but I think much of that stress is due to Brooklyn's many challenges, especially with her human friend, Alice.
I have really enjoyed this series. I love the characters and the world the author has built. I found this last book challenging to read because of grammatical errors and sentences that didn’t quite make sense. It was very distracting.
It’s a good story. But it’s like they wrote one book and then broke it up into a bunch of little books. Its getting kind of annoying with the unsatisfying finishes. Think i will wait until the series is over and read them all at once and skip the frustration.
Maya has done it again! I love her mind! Her imagination is sublime! I absolutely love, love Alice! I can't wait for the next one! The freaking ending! Drives me insane! Now I have to wait for the next book! It's so hard! I'm not a very patient person! Lol
So much has happened for Brooklyn in this book, but more so for Alice! The book seems to cover only a few days but contains epic battles, taunting of friends and new characters. Well written and exciting read!
This book was super good with wonderful characters and enough snark and humor in the paranormal storyline to make for excellent reading entertainment. Maya Daniels always delivers an excellent story .
For me. Ends in Cliffhanger Brooklyn, vampire.....Dominic, panther shifter....Rowan, witch....Samir, vampire, has feelings for Alice the human/witch/mage?? Rowan turns Alice over to Frederick the evil vamp.

this series was amazing!! I cannot wait for the next book!
This book has so much depth and growth. I loved how Brooklyn and Dominic grew and omg Alice is amazing. She makes me laugh so much. This series is a must and you will not regret it.
Brooklyn and friends are back in their fight against the Syndicate. Relationships are solidified. New alliances are formed, but can everyone be trusted. This book had me laughing and crying.
