Poetry anthology. Around four hundred poems, all by poets born since 1960 who have published at least one book, with about three poems per poet, arranged alphabetically by poet. Yes, it's as exciting as it sounds. In the back of the book, there's a two line biography for each poet, mostly consisting of where they've been published.
I bought this for a class and barely used it and then this past year I decided that goddammit I was going to get my money out of it by reading every poem in it. That took about two years. I didn't find much to get excited about, but there were several poets I liked enough to read more of their work: Rick Agran, Rick Alley, Aaron Anstett, Joshua Beckman, Joel Brouwer, A.V. Christie, Juan Delgado, Denise Duhamel, Nick Flynn, Douglas Goetsch, Mark Levine, m. loncar, Catie Rosemurgy.
An ecclectic mixture of poetry from viewpoints of Americans from coast to coast. Interesting to read the things that people observe from everyday life, from deep and morbid to bubbly and light. Good read to pick up from time to time!
Reading this anthology cover to cover gave me a tour of new voices. I really enjoyed following how the themes, subject matter, and pop culture references overlap in these poems.
