From the founder of Naturally, Danny Seo, the ultimate tip-a-day guide to being environmentally conscious without breaking the bank.
Danny Seo is known for his ability to make natural, healthy living accessible. In his nationally syndicated column, “Do Just One Thing,” Danny showed readers how to make small but powerful choices every day that would positively impact the planet. Now, 365 of his best tips have been gathered together in this giftable package. From conserving energy to recycling properly to looking out for our ecosystems, this book gives you one simple way to waste not, want not every day of the year. Save water by collecting rainwater for your houseplants, wash your bath towels with a splash of vinegar to keep them fresh longer, learn how to turn in old sneakers for recycling instead of tossing them in the trash, plant blue flowers to attract bees and support local pollinators, and more. And as Seo points out, reducing our carbon footprint can actually mean saving money, time, and our health, too!
A handy guide for those looking to make little changes in their lives to support the planet. That said, a lot of it will really depend on where you live and what resources and programs are available in your area. One point was that you can give old shoes to Nike to turn into ground rubber for playgrounds etc—only if you're in the US. Another was creating cross-draft in your home to reduce the need for air conditioning—only possible if you have windows that open and that are located on different sides of your dwelling (which generally does not include apartments.) So you really just need to go through the book to see what's both practical and actually possible given your situation.
This was a quick easy read with several easy to implement tips for living a greener, healthier life. I found a lot of the content was repeated throughout the 365 tips, as an example several of them talked about how aluminum cans are a better choice than glass or plastic bottles. However, I did find over twenty new ideas that I want to try and implement or pay more attention to this year.
Some of the tips were obvious, some were kind of silly, but I got a fair amount out of this. Namely, I’m excited to try deterring wasp’s nests with Castile soap!
I feel ahead of the curve, since I'm doing slightly more than one thing!
Some fairly decent suggestions. (Some redundancy.) The usual mix of: simple things I'm already doing, some things I'd like to start doing or improve upon, and some things that are simply "yeah, right."
*** Here are ones of interest: Wash plastic things in dishwasher. Briefer or fewer showers. Mouthwash in the toilet for disinfecting. Bring your own takeout container. Tea leaves sprinkled on carpet to deodorize. Delete old/spam emails. Refuse, reduce and reuse. (What to recycle and where.) Using the library! Obvi. :)
