Vibrant artwork and a quick, compelling story will entrance little readers of this die-cut novelty book from an award-winning author and illustrator.
With his trademark glowing hues, simple shapes, and clever die-cut designs, the innovative Petr Horácek creates a new animal tale perfect for preschoolers. BIRD, FLY HIGH follows a brilliantly colored feathered friend as she hops, flaps, pecks, tugs, and flies away, quick, quick, quick.
Petr Horáček is the author-illustrator of Look Out, Suzy Goose and Silly Suzy Goose, as well as Run, Mouse, Run!; Bird, Fly High; A New House for Mouse; and Strawberries Are Red. He lives in England.
Very cute. Bold, bright water color illustrations compliment a short, sweet story that includes a mama bird and her babies--little ones love stories about mamas and babies! I love the creative use of cut-outs in the board book pages. It offers an added interest without compromising the strength/durability of the book.
My 7-month-old seemed to enjoy this book. It's very simple, but definitely grabbed her interest. She especially liked when I showed her the little cut out spots, such as the hole for the worm and the edge of the mountains. I like those small attention-getting details.
Another toddler at the library saw me putting books in our bag, so she helped out putting a few of her own (random) selections. I kept this one to read to Natalie. I read it to Natalie a couple times a week ago, but can't remember too much about it. So, it was entertaining at the time, but forgettable.
