When a small-town beauty queen becomes a target, a rugged federal agent sets out to investigate—only to find that there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Pageant winner Lacie Jo Baxter was born and bred to dazzle; with the perfect smile, the perfect figure, the perfect facade of heartland innocence. But deep inside are pent-up desires and a daring that’s never been tested—until an abductor nearly snatches her up. Improvising a weapon out of her twirling baton, Lacie fends off the attacker, then comes face-to-face with the kind of man they don’t make in Kansas anymore.
Chicago-born FBI agent Ben Camaglia has a taste for the good life, an eye for women, and a knack for combining the two. Exiled from the Windy City, Ben expects to crack this little kidnapping caper and return to the big leagues. Instead, he quickly discovers that beneath Lacie’s incredible looks is a cocktail of lies and secrets. Sparks fly when they’re together, but danger swirls around a woman who is so irresistible that someone will not let her go.
Cute story. Almost a nice Summertime read. A Mother that used to be in local beauty pageants, then led her Daughter in her footsteps; not caring about what her Daughter wants. Leads to mystery and intrigue. Predictable and surprising, as well.
The beginning was quite funny. The first half was interesting enough but then it went nosedive from there. And the ending? WHAT THE H-E-DOUBLETOOTHPICKS?? *pun intended*
I thoroughly enjoyed Connie Lane's other book, Romancing Riley, so when I stumbled across Dirty Little Lies I was anxious to get started. The book seem to have a cute premise, but it took a while to get started. Once it did, I got caught up in it, and it was an okay way to pass the time. I just didn't find it as funny as the previous book I'd read by this author. And I found it a little repetitive... we heard a look about how the hero's look would make criminals confess and how perfect perfect perfect everything was. The perfect bit was actually part of the book shtick, but it got trying after a while.
I liked this book I guess because it had a little kick of home to it.
It's the whole southern girl from Kansas thing and had a lot of twerps I could totally relate to.
I liked how she was perceived as this innocent, snobbish beauty queen but in fact was the total opposite. How this out of town guy came for a reason and ended up doing something totally different. They got caught up in each other and a sort of mess evolved.
Really cute book I wouldn't mind picking up again.
Slow....until the last 25 pages. It had potential. Great characters. Everyone had their own personality. Lacie was the perfect beauty queen. Beau a great FBI agent. But the chemistry between them never gelled. The scenes that were great were too short. The main character development was long and drawn out. Loved the story line and plot. It was the only thing that kept me going.
This was a very corny romance novel and I don't feel as if the plot ever took off. It's not a book I'd recommend to anyone to read and just finished the book to finish it.
