What a beautiful introduction to and explanation of the Gospels! We read this together for school, and it was very engaging; one of my boys in particular always begged for more.
And it is so wonderful to see their eyes light up as they recognize a story from the Gospel when it's read at Mass.
I'm excited to read the one for Acts next school year!
An excellent narrative of the gospels for children! We read this extremely slowly over a period of two years to allow for narrations. You can easily just read 3-5 pages and have a nice "episode" for a child to digest and tell back. The tone is child-friendly without being patronizing. My kids really enjoyed this! (They were between the ages of 6 and 9 when we read it).
A narrative style of the Gospel. I enjoyed this and thought it was well done, but my children dreaded it each week as part of our lessons. I hope one day when they're better readers that they will pull it off the shelves and absorb the goodness within!
It is a great way to introduce children to the Bible, in story form and language they can understand. It isn’t dumbed down, but rather easy to read and see the parallels from Old Testament and New.
Read this with my seven year old son. It's a very good introduction to the life of Christ in a single narrative form. While the writing style is somewhat dated (the book was first published in 1939) it isn't difficult to follow. There is also ample explication by the author about what is going on and why. The beginning of the book is a very brief survey of the Old Testament in order to give proper context to Jesus' life and there are several times where connections are made between the past and what is going on in the narrative.
