Paul Showers, the author, shows how skin colors which are different. The characters in this book are students; two with light brown skin, another with dark brown skin, and the last has white skin with freckles. The teacher gives the students a magnifying glass. With the magnifying glass, the students look at their skin. There is a vocabulary term that a lot of students are probably not familiar with. That term is follicle. As a teacher, I would read this story to broaden students’ vocabulary, as well as discuss the senses of touch and sight. I would also use this book to converse with students that we are all different, but yet we all have similarities. The illustrations are bright and detailed. The text and illustrations relate a follicle to a flower in a vase, which provides students a relatable example. The author has lived in various states, therefore, I am sure he has come into contact with a variety of people who depict the variety of colors in which he discusses in this book.

What a great introduction to the Integumentary system! As usual, Paul Showers tells kids about their bodies with easy-to-follow language and fun illustrations. I like that this is an old book and yet still relevant since this science hasn't changed much in the intervening years.

Your skin and Mine is an informative book on our skin, how it works and why it is different among people. It also talks about fingernails and toenails being a part of our skin and how they protect our fingers and toes. The book also goes on to tell about our hair and how it grows from follicles.Your Skin and Mine is a great book to read to children when you are studying the human body and how our skin is useful to our bodies health. Giving the children a magnifying glass to study their own skin would be a fun , hands on activity to study our skin. The illustrations are beautifully done and appropriate to the content of the book.

content:

1. Hair grows up from the bottom of the follicle.
2. our skin helps keep us cool by sweating.
3. Skin has two layers, an outside layer called the dermis and an outside layer called the epidermis.
