Right from the start you can tell that this book will be delightfully FUNNY.

No kidding! Here are the words on the first two pages:

I helped my Dad.
We baked a cake.
I think it was
a big mistake.

Between those rhythms and the rhymes by Mary Margaret Pérez-Mercado. What an adventure!

As for the illustrations, by Richard L. Torrey, tbey remind me of why I used to love the cartoons in "Mad Magazine."

Finally, three cheers -- on top of my FIVE STARS -- for the poem at the end of the book: "You Can Be a Helper." Seriously beautiful!

Very simple leveled reader sure to make kids laugh. I can see reading this to even younger children, too, because the rhythmic style, almost verse, is fun. I love that it's a dad trying to bake, and mom comes home in a suit, and they all have a sense of humor that will get them through the clean-up.

Good book for a minus Level One reader. Rhyming, repeated words, and a fun short book.
