Get ready - get set - read! are illustrated stories that will delight beginning readers. They are designed to be used as children's first reading books. Each Get ready - get set - read! volume uses a limited sight vocabulary and introduces a word family such as at or ish. By adding to these root words, a child's reading vocabulary virtually explodes (cat, bat, hat, sat, etc.). There are five sets of Get ready - get set - read! books. Each set focuses on specific reading skills and reviews these skills in two Bring-It-All-Together books. For more information about the program, see the last page and inside back cover of this book. Get ready - get set - read! books not only bring children reading success, they also make reading enjoyable. They provide what is often missing in early books...engaging stories and high quality art. Young readers, parents, and teachers will turn to Get ready - get set - read! again and again! Ages 5 to 8

This is a very simple book for emerging readers in first grade. It is about a raccoon that is trying to wake his friend Jake up. The book uses the same rhyming pattern thought the story. This would be a perfect book for students to read if their spelling words for the week use the ake pattern.
