After losing her photographer fiance in an act of violence overseas, reporter Caroline James sought solace in home and family in St. Louis. Hoping to heal her shattered life, she threw herself into work at a local newspaper. Then David Sloan walked into her office.... Since the day he'd met her -- as his brother's fiancee -- David had secretly cared for Caroline. Surely the Lord had led him back to Caroline for a purpose... to help each other past their mutual tragedy and to learn to live and love again.

My thoughts: 📘 Last time I had an ebook and an audiobook and the stories didn't match. This time I have an ebook with the newer cover and I now understand that these stories have been revised and rewritten as Encore Editions. I wish I could find a copy of the original story but I'm mostly glad I'm aware of it. I originally got this book then realized it was part of a series. 🔖Page 14 of 216 [Chapter] 2 - I hate when people keep it in the family and I'm disappointed there is no Tess but the occupations are similar to the last couple so I'm expecting them to pop up. 🔖86 [Chapter] 7 - I was so happy to see Tess show up with updates on Bruce and Mitch. I was expecting Caroline to know her based on occupation but I had given up on the connections. I do have an issue with this match, especially since David was attracted to her when she was with Michael.
This was good but it felt like some of the story was missing, particularly the romance storyline was underdeveloped, it ended too soon. I did find a copy of the original story, not sure if I'll have time to read it but I hope to.
Recommend to others: Yes. It's an interesting plot.
New Beginnings 1. Crossroads (2003) 2. All Our Tomorrows (2006)
I really enjoyed this backlist title of one of my favorite authors. Several times while reading this story, I could see the threads of some of what I love most about her Hope Harbor series, it's easy to see how that series developed years after this book originally released. This is an easy read with a storyline that really grabbed me. I really felt for Jared and hoped that Caroline and David could help him succeed. Loved this story and its characters!
I always enjoy books by Irene Hannon - they take place in St Louis, a place with which I am familiar BUT they always have interesting characters and are easy to read. I was "hooked" from the very beginning and found the program to help at risk youth was one that I was hoping was a reality. We have so many high schoolers with potential that don't have the opportunity to rise above their circumstances so I find that my response to this "fictional" situation has been to pray for the reality of programs like this in St Louis as well as other cities. She also referred to the gangs that have influence on so many and that is another very real problem in our cities today. All in all, it was a great book and the investment in the young man paid off plus there was a happy ending for David and Caroline.
This is a good story. There was so much I liked about it.
The relationship between Caroline and David and their individual struggles about their feelings for each other. I enjoyed the Christian portions of the book and find that Irene Hannon always gets me to stop and think.
I loved how so many people came together to support and mentor Jared. There were several times these people could have walked away but were determined to help him. Mentoring is not only wonderful for the person being mentored but the person who is the mentor. Imagine if everyone mentored one young person.
I enjoyed this so much. It’s the story of tragedy, struggle, compassion, and love.
Main characters: Caroline, editor of a newspaper whose fiancé died two years before the story takes place; David, brother of her fiancé but also newly-hired director of a non-profit that provides summer internships for struggling teens; and Jared, being raised by his grandmother, a teen who is gifted writer and photographer and is trying to break ties with a gang.
another love inspired ebook from the library. There seems to be a common thread of the characters being journalists in the recent reads. Caroline and David's story. Both dealing with grief and coping over a 2 year period from when they had met the first time. Circumstances and people brought about meeting again and danger seems to change directions in their relationship.
Caroline James only wants peace and solace after the death of her fiancé spending all her time working at the newspaper and weekly dinners with her mom. That is until David Sloan show up at her office to give her a medal from his brother's effects. 2 years ago at the first meeting David started to have feelings for Caroline he thought the feelings would have faded but they just grew.
Great love story set in St. Louis. One man falls in love with his brother's fiance. When his brother passes away, he thinks he'll never see her again, but God has other plans. Heartwarming story about second chances.
2 years after the death of Caroline's fiance, she runs into his brother David. Both have guilt feelings over Michael's death. Through their work they are thrown together and learn to forgive their past and love again.
Irene Shannon did not sugarcoat the truth. Gangs are like leeches. They refuse to let go. Caroline and David were of high moral character, compassionate, and giving.
It is a very captivating story of helping the down and out. It's also a love story and how collaboration can benefit those who are less fortunate. I highly recommend it and you won't be disappointed.
A solid story of a woman and her late fiance's brother who come together to help a teen from a rough neighborhood learn to dream. In the process, they may discover dreams of their own.
Past grief and past guilt are both eased by the caring attention given to a struggling teen. The characters are brave and real and it is hard to say goodbye.
Caroline James and David Sloan have one thing in common- Michael Sloan. As Caroline's fiance and David's brother, both suffer from immeasurable grief and guilt over his death via a roadside bomb in the Middle East over two years ago. Although they haven't seen each other since Michael's funeral, a job change brings David to St. Louis and prompts him to return a keepsake to Caroline that she had given to his brother long ago. And, when the non-profit David works for that assists at-risk youth in finding internships with local companies decides to accept troubled, yet aspiring, photographer and writer Jared Poole into the intern program, David knows just the place for Jared to receive the mentoring he needs to help him thrive- Caroline's newspaper the County Chronicle. As Caroline takes Jared under her wing and begins teaching him the ropes of journalism, David and Caroline find their paths begin crossing each other and a friendship begins to form. As their relationship deepens, however, the two not only bear each other's burden for the guilt they feel toward their perceived part in Michael's death, but also find that they may have uncovered a second chance at love.
All Our Tomorrows is a sweet love story that showcases the power of forgiveness and the healing of grief that comes with time. I enjoyed Hannon's depictions of the personality contrasts evident between the two brothers. The revelation that David had had feelings for Caroline since he was first introduced to her was a surprising twist to the story. I was especially satisfied that Hannon made it clear that Caroline's changing feelings for David were based on her truly seeing him as a man and potential suitor in and of himself. David and Caroline's story was a treasure to read!
This review contains my own thoughts and opinions. I have not been compensated for this review in any way.
As with all Irene Hannon books, this was a winner for me. It was a quick but engaging read. While awaiting the next Hope Harbor or suspense novel by Irene Hannon, I have caught up on all the Encore Editions. This novella follows a troubled teen while two adults set aside their history to help make a difference.
Really enjoy these "Love Inspired" books. As it reads at the top of the books they are heartwarming and inspirational. I have quite a few of these in my personal library. Caroline James was a journalist with the Associated Press and worked a lot in hot zones. Her fiance Michael Sloan was a gifted photojournalist who had been killed by the actions of a suicide bomber. Needing to get away from that life, Caroline returns home to be with her friends and family and find work in a place that is a bit safer. She also has feelings of anger, hurt, and guilt over the death of her fiance that she is trying to overcome.
David Sloan, brother to Michael Sloan, fell in love with Caroline James the very first time he met her. Knowing that such feelings were wrong he kept his distance. He was a very successful businessman who made his money in mergers and acquisitions. But he feels that there is more to life than money, that God had a different plan for him. When he was contacted by a friend who worked for an organization that provided internship opportunities to youth who lived in low income areas, with the hope of making a difference in their lives and an opportunity to advance their dreams and goals. He jumps on it because now He will be a tool in making that difference. He also finds himself close to Caroline, where he is forced to come to terms with his feelings for her, feelings of guilt over his brothers death, and that helping some people attain their dreams isn't always easy and can have a lot of road blocks along the way.
Another great book from Irene Hannon. Though this book was basically a romance, it had some suspense in it too. I liked how the characters developed and grew in their walks with the Lord and just in general. I thought the concept, trying to get a young person out of gangs, was especially well written.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good romance book. :)
Short novel of falling in love and moving on after her fiancé was killed and he lost his mother and brother. Together they work together to help teenagers have internship opportunities.
