This is the second edition of a textbook that has met with enthusiastic acclaim since its publication in 1988. It explores in detail theories and discussions of how children think and learn. It also looks at the practical implications of research and acknowledges some of the difficult problems teachers face when trying to put theory and research into practice in the classroom.
A very difficult book to read. The author meanders all over the place seeming to have forgotten the point he was trying to make. I actually fell asleep numerous times while reading this book, so it is a great sedative. Read it only if you have to for your course work.
Wood writes like a conversation so it's not hard to understand. Loaded with illustrative examples of the topics he explores. Wriiten quite a while ago but gives you an overview of socio-constructivism in terms of learning. Suitable for those studying educational theories.
The repetitive nature of this book definitely allowed me to get an in depth understanding of the main theorists: Pavlov,Skinner. Piaget, Vygotsky and Bruner.
It was a useful insight into assisting me with my assignment on 'how children learn?'
