This book is a collection of Zuni’s cartoons published in 1989 after the June-4 Tiananmen Square crackdown. As a well-received political cartoonist in Hong Kong, Zunzi’s works have been accurately reflecting HK people’s sentiments for decades.
Thanks to t he e digitization of some of the works from Zunzi for open access, I finally have a chance to read this after his last newspaper cartoon column was abruptedly axed in 2023.
More than 30 years after the book was published, there’s a sense of timelessness of the book because the cartoons depicting the fear and helplessness among HK people in 1989 are still painfully present. And what people feared would happen in HK back then has become a reality.
