The Lens Book: Choosing and Using Lenses for Your Slr

Rate this book
With examples of photographs taken with all kinds of lenses - from ultra-wides to ultra-telephotos, via macro, soft-focus and zooms - this book describes their performance and applications. It is aimed at all photographers from the absolute beginner to the semi-professional. The authors, a husband-and-wife team who are both professional freelance photographers, discuss the difference between "marque" lenses from a camera's manufacturer and independent lenses from well-known firms. There is also information on adapting lenses from one camera to another, and a look at the problems and advantages of buying second-hand.

If they'd update this, I think I'd get more out of it. The generalities, of course, apply to contemporary digital cameras, but a lot of the specifics were outdated. I was looking for a good primer course on different lenses for different situations, and to an extent that's what this was, but something just was lacking. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I didn't leave the book with much more info than I started with.
