An Okay Debut

When Keisha Jones finally breaks free of her abusive husband and begins to build a life for herself and her daughter, she struggles with self- image, finances and her career. Then suddenly, her whole world changes drastically. She's pursued by not one but two handsome men who find her soft curves irresistible. And if that weren't enough, Keisha is the number one suspect in her boss' murder, for the simple reason that her fingerprints are on the murder weapon! Now Keisha has to clear her name and for once in her life, choose The Better Man... From the title and the book description, Ms. Lynn crafts an interesting debut of romance and mystery. Although the story had many twists and turns, and had the potential to be a great novel, it just wasn't a page turner for me. I thought some of the dialogue was a bit scattered throughout the pages and I found some discrepancies in the story. For example, when Keisha cooks for Desiree, Desiree states she could cook her butt off, yet when she cooks with Orlando, she hardly knows her way around the kitchen. There are quite a few typos. It seemed to take forever for Keisha and Orlando to get to that place of trust so that they could build a relationship. However, when they finally got together, the intimacy was beautifully written! I thought that after all the things Keisha said and did, she really didn't deserve a good guy like Orlando. And, after Keisha and Orlando finally did connect, it just felt like Ms. Lynn tried to wrap the story up a little too quickly with a brief, yet not totally believable summary of the incidents surrounding the murder mystery. It was an okay read with some decent characters and definitely some characters that the story could have done without. I wouldn't say it was the best mystery/romance I've ever read, but it was an okay read.
