Lily Tyler's very interested in her sexy new neighbor, private jet pilot Brady Cole. Brady could really go for smart, gorgeous Lily. The fire that's generated whenever they're together isn't just chemical . . . it's nuclear! But then there's Doug . . . The real ruler of the roost—Lily's noisy, nasty, match-mauling pooch—Doug likes to greet anyone he dislikes with yaps, nips, and very unpleasant surprises. And Doug does not like Brady. (Doug, in fact, doesn't like anybody —except Lily, of course. And, oddly enough, the squeaky clean, partner-track attorney whom Lily's domineering dad would love for his dutiful daughter to marry.) Brady's no canine fan to begin with—and Doug's the devil-dog incarnate! But Lily could never get serious with anyone who doesn't click with her precious puppy—so Brady's going to need a lot more than great looks, smooth charm, and hot passion to get himself out of the doghouse and into Lily's life!
This book was great! Brady is a great character and Lily is interesting. The men that surround Lily (her father, neighbour, boyfriend) didn't end up being or reacting the way I was predicting. I like when things aren't obvious but alo fit the characters, that's what happened here.
I bought this book at a used booksale a year ago and held off on reading it because it sounds ridiculous. I was really pleased to see that Doug was not as terrible as the synopsys made him out to be. He had a cute little character and everything. And the epilogue with him was adorable.
Was a solid 3 stars cuz I liked the story and characters but it repeatedly spoiled a book on my tbr. Not once, not twice but repeatedly. DNF at 30% I even skipped ahead to see what happened with one character and sure enough another book spoiler. I really enjoyed maybe baby by her.
I am very happy that I picked up this book. It was silly and fun, and I found it to be an easy read. I enjoyed most of it. Doug was a fun little dog, and I appreciate how he was placed into the story; how he kept most men away and was protective. I was absolutely not expecting any spicy parts to this book!
As for our MC, Lily, I wish I could've liked her more. She was smart and well-liked by many, but she had too many moments of just being selfish and self-centered. Everything revolved around her, and it made her seem like a bad friend who needed to figure herself out before committing to anyone. I was disappointed that a girl like like was so naive. I am not saying she needs to be perfect at all -- I know I'm not! Still, Lily had a lot of moments that made me say "Why would you say that?!" "Lily, stop being an idiot!" or "What in your right mind made you do that?" Haha! I appreciate her growth, though. She went from daddy's girl who (thought she) loved someone because he approved to a strong woman who could politely stand up for herself and Brady in a way that her father would somehow understand. I felt happy when she finally realized she was in love with a man of her imagination instead of who he really was (a gross A-hole imo). It is easy to get caught up in our imagination, so I totally understood some of it.
As for Brady... he first seemed like a huge mess to me. I think his being a pilot reflects the free spirit and wild nature that is Brady. I grew to like him over time. He seemed a bit gross to me when we'd peek into his thoughts. Needing a date diet because you have no restraint is really sad to me. It made him seem like an animal with no self-control. Later, though, we learn he wants to better himself for real. He is a kind person who makes mistakes. I loved how he tried to catch Doug stealing the shoes, it brought out a goofiness in him. I love how he read (listened to) her favorite book. That's so CUTE. Even though he had issues with his anger and seemed to easily overreact, he also grew as a person during this book. Lily and Brady make sense, and I liked everything that happened leading up to their relationship. The good and the bad needed to happen for them to realize they needed each other in their lives.
(Wtf was up with Nathan... weirdo XD I didn't like that plot line I'll admit. It didn't seem like something he'd do. I found it odd).

This book was slightly better than the first in the series. But I'd say the most intelligent character in the book was Doug - the dog. I wanted to like Lily but she spent 2+ yrs "in love" with the idea of dating & marrying a lawyer in her dad's law firm. Gerald showed her repeatedly that he wasn't into her & that they had no chemistry but Lily won't let it go. It's pitiful. Then there's the insecure neighbor who still lives with his mother who believes he's in love with Lily - and she supposedly doesn't notice that either. And the guy she ends up with is the anti-relationship, dog hater. Ok then..... Like I mentioned, Doug is the most intelligent & entertaining character. I would have preferred a story with Penelope or Georgia as the lead instead of Lily.
Cute, quick read but didn’t do much for me. The main characters barely spent any time together, but internally battled through the whole book that they wanted to be together. Then all of the sudden they get stuck in a shed together & say they love each other? After like 4 weeks of knowing the other? Not to mentioned of those, they were avoiding each other..
Pretending not to be anything more than an extremely light and fluffy read, "Beware Of Dog" has its moments. There were definitely a few hilarious moments there that cracked me up, but other than that it was all very superficial and predictable, and yes, also boringly repetitive. 32-year old Lily Tyler is a college teacher and seems to live her life totally from what she dreams up and then projects on some people. For instance she foresees a future union with Gerald, a lawyer working with her Dad. She has been pining for this Gerald guy because for Lily he stepped straight out of her favorite novel, Emma by Jane Austen. Gosh, he was somewhat weird that Gerald guy, and how Lily didn't see that, I just don't get. Things will change for Lily when a new neighbour moves in next door; the irresistible pilot Brady – and finally she gets a glimmer of what a real-life romance could be like - and not the dreamed-up kind. The Brady character was well thought out. There's more to him than his good looks. Undoubtedly, the dog ‘Doug’ angle was a bit silly but still cute.
Lily Tyler would like to settle down with a man who loves her and her dog, Doug. The problem is that Doug hates everyone so no one has the opportunity to approach Lily to date her. Then a private jet pilot rents the townhouse next door and sparks fly. Not only for Lily, but for Brady Cole too. Brady has some issues to clear up first.
Lily is hoping that her father's employee (Gerald) would ask her to marry her, but after 2 years of hoping and waiting, everything falls apart for Lily's father's hopes. This book is a continuation of some of the other dog books that Elaine Fox wrote. This book focuses on Lily. The other three books focus on how Megan, Penelope and Georgia meet their significant other. Light read and enjoyable dialogue among the characters. Would recommend with a thumbs up.
Cute story. I love Lily thought she was into this other guy, but when she finally accepted the reality of the situation she finally realized how fake he, and her love for him, was. Brady was sexy and so attracted to her from the beginning that he even listened to her audio of her favorite book. Tricia, his stalker added just a bit of tension that was both funny and sad. I loved that there were parts of the book written from Doug's perspective. They were hilarious. A fun, sexy, light and easy read! I am looking forward to reading more from this author!
Cute, romantic comedy. Lily thinks she has the perfect man, Gerald, who is a gentleman and whom her father actually likes...that is until handsome Brady moves in next door. Lily doesn't want to like Brady, a hot shot pilot, but can't help herself. But enter Doug, Lily's dog who does not like men at all! Doug has a mind of his own and does everything from chew up Brady's motorcycle seat to take his shoes. Brady has the hots for Lily, but can he make his way past Doug? And what will happen with Gerald, the seemingly perfect guy?
Brady, the private jet pilot is hot for Lily. Lily really likes him too but she knows that her dog is a tornado directed toward anyone invading their space. Doug, the "devil-dog", schemes to get rid of the guy who moved next door. Will they get together or will the determined dog win the battle?
Cute dog story with a twist of intrigue and of course a happy ending (for at least one character.) Fast read, good for passing a little time when you want nothing heavy to think about. Chick Lit or Beach read in its prime.
This is the 2nd in Fox's Guys & Dogs series and I loved going back to her characters from the 1st installment. Doug is a fireplug of a dog who hates men. Lily isn't looking for a date (she has Doug) but falls for her new next door neighbor. This book is all about how man gets dog because Lily isn't going to hook up with anyone who can't love Doug. And, who could blame her. I fell in love with him the second he stole one shoe of every pair the neighbor owned.
a fun, funny romance. Typical Chick Lit. Not many surprises, but fun to read all the same. The most adoring character is doug, the french bullterrier who hates all men and lets them know it as soon as they get within chomping distance of his beloved Lily. Then a new neighbor moves in next door, Brady, a hunk of a male. Needless-to-say Doug hates his on sight.
Dating has its dangers, and sometimes those dangers come in the form of pets who are very protective and possessive of their owners. Doug, from this novel, is no exception. This book is very well done, as it portrays him as more protective than possessive and does not treat him as just a psycho dog. It is refreshing to read a book about a dog that does not end with the dog dying.
Hilarious. This dog is her guardian and hates all men except for the lousiest man which she unfortunately takes as a sign that he's a good guy. The dog just figured that he wasn't a threat since he was such a lousy man. Pretty hilarious.
This book was a fun and quick read. There were several chapters that were through the eyes of the main character's dog which were comical. I look forward to reading more books by Elaine Fox in the future.
This was such a cute and funny chick-lit romance, and I normally do not read these type books. The dog, Doug, is the most interesting little character ever, and without him, the book would be just OK.
I guarantee anyone will laugh-out-loud at times reading this.
Ein wirklich niedliches Buch, besonders der Hund ist toll. Das Buch ist übrigens auch bestens geeignet, sich von einem nervenaufreibendem Fussballspiel abzulenken.
It was cute in the few spots where the story came from the dog's point of view. There wasn't any part that keeps the reader wanting to read more though. A decent story but not that great.
