Marcus Deveraux, the youngest of the dynamic Deveraux brothers, has everything he wants in life except the love of Vera Clark Jackson. When he met Vera she was a new employee of the Deveraux Group and a happily married woman. Now, twelve years later, Marcus if the CEO of the company, and Vera is a valued executive, although she is now widowed. Marcus has never understood the word 'no' when it comes to getting what he wants and he still wants Vera's heart. When his cousin Paris drops a large hint that Vera has feelings for him, too, Marcus goes into action. He's going to move heaven and earth to prove to Vera that they were meant to be together. Vera's going to take a lot of convincing because she's so accustomed to them being best friends and colleagues, but Marcus isn't going to give up. He's been in love with her since he was eighteen and he's going to pull out all the stops until Vera realizes that he's the only man who can make all her dreams come true.
I loved this book! Vera and Marcus were definitely made for each other. I rated the book 5 stars because I loved it however there were typos throughout the book. This is very annoying. Ms. Schuster needs to check the proofing and editing.
I read this book several year ago and it is the story that got me hooked on the Devereaux/Cochran series. Marcus fell in love with Vera when was 18 yrs old and he could believe she was 10 years older than him. As the year go by, Vera and Marcus become best friends. Everybody knows that they love each other. Marcus escorts Vera to an award banquet and kisses her. This is the beginning of their romance, but Vera has issues. Her deceased husband convinced her that she is frigid so she is reluctant to get intimate with Marcus. Through patience and understand, Marcus is able to show Vera that she just hasn't been loved by the right man. Marcus is accused of fathering a child that he doesn't claim, but Vera never doubts him and knows he is not the type of man to shirk his responsibility. Marcus asks Vera to marry him, but she is reluctant because once again her dead husband has done a number on her self-esteem and fed her a bunch of lies. What I love about the Devereaux/Cochran stories are that they are such a close family, that you get to revisit them in every book, plus the men are so sexy and romantic. This is definitely worth reading, if you can find a copy.
Tragedy hits and makes one life change and another evolve to it true potential. Love has been at the door for far to long it only takes a cast and crew of family and friends to make it all happen.
Vera and Marcus get a chance that many will never take. Age is nothing but a number and that is evident in the pursuit that follows the friendship to love.
It was great to see more of this particular series.
With each book I fall more in love with this series and these families. Marcus and Vera loved each other for a long time and it was precious to have them finally speak the words out loud and to each other. It was incredibly sad about Vera's first husband passing but Marcus was there for her through the whole ordeal making his love for her clear to everyone but them. Looking forward to reading the next installment of the series.
Great series! Marcus has loved his best friend, Vera, since he was 18 years old. The problem: Vera is 40 years old, ten years older than Marcus and she feels she is too old for him. Well as the 30 year old CEO of the Deveraux Group, Marcus didn't get where he is by taking no for an answer. Marcus is willing to do whatever is necessary to convince Vera they belong together!
I read this one first. It was so good, I read it twice. At the time, I did not know this book was part of a series. I went back and started at book one. The is a great series, you will not be disappointed,
