2017 Reading Challenge - A book with a title that's a character's name

Gaucho is an endearing coming of age story of a Puerto Rican immigrant who moved to New York City at the age of five an dreams of returning to a home he doesn't remember but believes would offer an easier and happier life for his mother and himself. When his older brother marries and begins his own new life, he feels it is up to him to help his family return to Puerto Rico. Through his efforts to raise money he learns a lot, quickly, about the different characters in his neighborhood. The story is a bit too neat and ties up a bit too well, but overall is a sweet story.
