Read as an ebook on the Eucalyptus app thanks to the Gutenberg Project.
The introductory notes were fascinating--I'm sad that my copy (based on the single-volume edition, not the double volume) cut large parts of Dasent's appendices and notes. Understandable, though.
Dasent's translation is arguably dated, but what makes it really difficult to read is the alterations in tense: sometimes it's present, sometimes it's past, and often it changes from one to the other in the same paragraph or even the same sentence. I enjoyed it (except for the interminable chapters set at the Althing and regarding suing over the Burning, where swaths of paragraphs were repeated verbatim--that's the only place in the saga where I skimmed), but I want to read a more recent translation.
Placing the endnotes at the back of the ebook made them essentially useless--the app jumps by chapters, so to consult an endnote would have required skipping to the final chapter and then skipping back to the current one, and then swiping forward to the correct page. That was my only real complaint, however, and it's a flaw of the carrier, not the content.
