He made his debut as a novelist with Páginas de vuelta (1995), a work which established him as one of the most innovative voices of the new Colombian narrative; later he wrote Perder es cuestión de método (1997), which was internationally acclaimed, and has been translated into 17 lenguages, and about which a film is now being made, and Vida feliz de un joven llamado Esteban (2000), a novel which has added to his international prestige. He is the author of the travel book Octubre en Pekín (2001). As a journalist, he has been a contributor to the Latin American Service of Radio France International in Paris, a correspondent of El Tiempo of Bogotá, and columnist on the magazine Cromos. IL SOLE DIETRO LE NUVOLE
La fede degli schiavi trasformata in marketing.
Gamboa dedica un capitoletto iniziale a elencare i suoi personaggi principali: una giornalista d’inchiesta d’assalto, quarantenne (fortunatamente) separata e madre di due figli adolescenti; la di lei assistente, più giovane, ex combattente delle FARC; un procuratore della capitale, cinquantenne single.
A me, però, la vera protagonista sembra soprattutto Julieta, la giornalista. Il procuratore è in seconda posizione. L’assistente in terza, ma molto staccata.
A raccontare è preposta una voce narrante di stampo abbastanza classico, che ogni tanto trasforma la terza in prima persona: succede nelle lunghe interviste riportate integralmente (una lunga quasi cinquanta pagine) o nei rapporti scritti degli agenti impegnati nell’indagine.
Il procuratore si avvale della collaborazione di agenti e poliziotti. E quindi, tutto sommato, questo è un thriller giallo poliziesco.
E secondo me è un genere che a Gamboa non riesce bene. Perché se il cuore della trama, l’argomento centrale è molto interessante, lo sviluppo ha più volte messo a rischio la mia sospensione dell’incredulità. E soprattutto ho sofferto la mancanza di una atmosfera, densa o rarefatta, ma riconoscibile e indicativa.
Eppure, sul versante atmosfera, l’inizio lasciava ben sperare: uno scontro a fuoco tra forze a terra nascoste dietro alberi, cespugli e rocce, contro un convoglio composto da due Nissan Discovery a protezione dell’auto centrale, un Hummer. Lo scontro a fuoco contempla l’uso di mitragliatrici e bazooka, e si conclude con l’intervento di un elicottero. Arrampicato su un albero, muto e nascosto, ma ben vigile c’è un ragazzino, o un bambino cresciuto: un orfano, uno dei tanti che la lunga guerra civile di questo paese ha generato.
Invece, subito dopo e fino alla fine, Gamboa sembra aver optato per un tono a volte scherzoso, generalmente leggero – nonostante certe descrizioni di cadaveri e di omicidi – dando la sensazione che la Colombia sia un paese che conosce moderata corruzione e una spiccata capacità di risolvere situazioni e problemi. Infatti, l’indagine, per metà condotta dalla giornalista, per metà dal procuratore, scivola senza intoppi, senza reazioni violente, nella e con la disponibilità di tutti. Il che a me pare un pochino irreale.
Dicevo che il tema della storia è molto interessante. Infatti, al centro del romanzo c’è l'anomalo potere che le chiese pentecostali ed evangeliche hanno ottenuto in America Latina e in Africa - con i loro nomi altisonanti come Chiesa dell'Alleanza, Nuova Gerusalemme, Cristo della Frontiera…
Dice Gamboa in un’intervista:
Queste chiese importate dagli Stati Uniti, hanno contribuito ad imporre Jair Bolsonaro alla guida del Brasile. Parlano ai deboli, aiutano il tossicodipendente, intercedono per l'orfano e, se serve, sanno usare le mani. Sopperiscono all'assenza dello Stato finché, un bel giorno, il pastore evangelico dirà a tutti loro per chi devono votare, ottenendo un capitale politico da vendere al miglior offerente. E cosa c'è di meglio di una chiesa deviata, per riciclare i milioni di dollari della droga con i contanti raccolti dalle offerte? È una gigantesca lavanderia alla luce del sole.

What a joy it is to discover a rich new reading flavor, this time a thriller by a talented author I had never been exposed to. An article in my email from CrimeReads praised Colombian author Santiago Gamboa for his latest noir offering, "The Night Will Be Long." I am so glad I picked up on this.
In a sleepy little town in Columbia, a swift and brutal assassination attempt is made. Heavy weaponry and explosives roar, even an armed helicopter is involved. The aftermath: there is no aftermath-- nothing happened. There is no trace of a fight, there are no bullets, there are no bodies, there is no report. Not an incident, most likely just thunder and rain. There is no contradiction to this explanation as there is no witness.
Well, there is Franklin, a young teenage orphan. There is Julieta Lezama, a reporter investigating the rumors of a skirmish. She, along with her ex-rebel friend Johana Triviño are working with government prosecutor Edilson Jutsiñamuy to investigate who could orchestrate such a huge cover up. Franklin tells these women what he witnessed... and then he vanishes. Clues lead Julieta to two competing churches and their charismatic pastors. Could this have been a fight between these two? What would be behind such a vicious rivalry?
Although the narrative point of view shifts between Julieta and Edilson, other characters are expressed in extended monologues. This serves as a way to provide concentrated amounts of background at once, presenting dynamic adversaries with real backgrounds, real motivations. We also see Edilson is the consummate professional, Julieta not so much. Her flaw is in her hesitation in committing to things. She feels intermittent guilt about missing her sons, she is tempted in romance, she feels a sensual attraction to Johana... but she mostly waters down her impulses by gulping down gin. The hotel room mini bar is her salvation.
"The Night Will Be Long" is a compelling thriller and I was fascinated with the Columbia Santiago Gamboa unveiled. I am looking forward to more by this artist. Thank you to Edelweiss and Europa Editions for the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a thriller set in Colombia and I felt that this, of any book I've read on or about this country, really exuded the true essence of what it is like there. A young boy witnesses a violent execution followed by a swift coverup. Journalist Julieta Lezama is investigating a skirmish along with her friend Johana Triviño. The clues lead to two charismatic/evangelical rival churches. This was an interesting to see a Colombian perspective on this as we tend to think of this as something we identify with in the United States. I will be reading more from this author.

Santiago Gamboa’s literary thriller concerns the aftermath of a violent ambush in contemporary, south-western Columbia, the subsequent mysterious cover-up and a follow-up investigation by journalist Julieta and Jutsinamuy, a Bogota-based prosecutor. Their tentative leads track to Columbia’s booming, evangelical mega-churches, linked through an organisation known as The Alliance, all apparently united in their determination to prevent what they call, “the ideology of gender and the creation of a homosexual state.” But pursuing the truth’s a risky undertaking when it involves powerful, religious institutions exempt from taxation, or the need to account for themselves or their incomes. Gamboa’s narrative shifts between Julieta’s and Jutsinamuy’s points of view and his story’s at its most convincing when he’s exploring Columbia’s troubled social and political terrain. It’s much less effective in the portrayal of characters and their inner worlds: dialogue’s frequently clumsy and exposition-heavy, Julieta’s conflicted sexual desires are so awkwardly represented they border on parody.
Gamboa’s been compared to Roberto Bolano but I didn’t find this piece as stylistically accomplished or intellectually complex as Bolano’s work. Gamboa does play around a little with structure, register and prose style: breaking up stretches of third-person narration with first-person accounts; minor characters frequently depicted via transcriptions of lengthy monologues revealing their back stories together with snippets from Columbia’s difficult history. But this didn’t really work for me as a strategy or seem to particularly enrich the writing. These passages often felt stagey, overly artificial, and the voices didn’t stand out from each other, they also detracted from the tension created by Gamboa’s more tightly-paced material. The most engaging elements, for me, related to discussions of Columbia’s evangelical movements, which have been heavily criticised for their political conservatism and increasing, negative impact on Columbia’s political climate - I wish Gamboa had spent less time detailing his main characters’ flaws, and far more on this aspect of his novel.

Μια ένοπλη ενέδρα που περιέχει πιστολίδι, νεκρούς, τραυματίες και διαφυγή με ελικόπτερο είναι ο τρόπος με το οποίο ξεκινά το βιβλίο μας. Όμως, δεν υπάρχουν πτώματα στο σημείο ούτε κάλυκες, σαν να μην συνέβη τίποτα. Μια ανώνυμη καταγγελία, κινεί την έναρξη της έρευνας η οποία μετά από λίγο, δεν υπάρχει πουθενά. Ένας εισαγγελέας από τα κεντρικά, αποφασίζει να ψάξει λίγο την υπόθεση και ζητά τη βοήθεια μιας δημοσιογράφου με σκοπό την αποκλειστικότητα. Σε μια χώρα που μαστίζεται από τη βία είτε των συμμοριών, είτε των παραστρατιωτικών, πολλοί θα μπορούσαν να είναι οι εμπλεκόμενοι. Ένα νεαρό αγόρι που βοηθά κατά καιρούς σε μία από τις εκκλησίες που έχουν ξεπηδήσει σαν μανιτάρια τα τελευταία χρόνια, είναι ό μόνος αυτόπτης μάρτυρας - αλλά, μετά από λίγο κι αυτός εξαφανίζεται. Τι συμβαίνει τελικά? Θα καταφέρει ο εισαγγελέας με τη δημοσιογράφο να ανακαλύψουν τι πραγματικά συνέβη?
Το τελευταίο βιβλίο του Κολομβιανού συγγραφέα είναι ένα θρίλερ στο οποίο που χτίζει αργά την ιστορία, κλιμακώνοντάς την σταδιακά. Απλά δεν είναι ένα ακόμη θρίλερ γεμάτο βία και διαφθορά - σαφέστατα υπάρχουν κι αυτά, αλλά ο συγγραφέας μας δείχνει την δεξιοτεχνία του εναλλάσοντας τον τρόπο γραφής από τριτοπρόσωπη σε πρώτοπρόσωπη, ενσωματώνοντας έτσι ιστορίες, αναδεικνύοντας χαρακτήρες αλλά και την τοπική ιστορία, χωρίς να γίνεται κουραστικός.
"Οι εγκαταλελειμμένα Χουλιέτα, πιστεύουμε ότι έχουμε μια αποστολή πάνω στη Γη, και ξέρεις γιατί; Όταν εσύ κοιτάζεις τον ουρανό βλέπεις αστέρια και σου φαίνονται όμορφα, αλλά εγώ κοιτάζω και βλέπω μονάχα πληγές που τσούζουν και γυαλίζουν, εγκαύματα στο πρόσωπο, εκζεματα, ουλές. Τις δικές μου και των άλλων.."
Το τελευταίο βιβλίο του Κολομβιανού συγγραφέα είναι ένα θρίλερ στο οποίο που χτίζει αργά την ιστορία, κλιμακώνοντάς την σταδιακά. Απλά δεν είναι ένα ακόμη θρίλερ γεμάτο βία και διαφθορά - σαφέστατα υπάρχουν κι αυτά, αλλά ο συγγραφέας μας δείχνει την δεξιοτεχνία του εναλλάσοντας τον τρόπο γραφής από τριτοπρόσωπη σε πρώτοπρόσωπη, ενσωματώνοντας έτσι ιστορίες, αναδεικνύοντας χαρακτήρες αλλά και την τοπική ιστορία, χωρίς να γίνεται κουραστικός.

Από το ποίημα “Punto cero” (Σημείο μηδέν) του Χοσέ Άνχελ Βαλέντε
Η αμφισβήτηση του πολέμου, η μοναξιά του μετώπου της μάχης, η αναζήτηση της ρίζας και μια πραγματικότητα που απειλεί να εκραγεί ξανά, είναι αυτά που πραγματεύεται στο νέο του αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα ο Κολομβιανός δημοσιογράφος και συγγραφέας Santiago Gamboa. Ο ίδιος, όπως μας είπε κατά την παρουσίαση του βιβλίου, στα πλαίσια του φεστιβάλ ΛΕΑ 2023 (Λογοτεχνία Εν Αθήναις), προτιμά να το χαρακτηρίζει “novela de periodismo criminal” (μυθιστόρημα εγκληματικής δημοσιογραφίας), γιατί με τη συγγραφή του είχε σκοπό πέρα από το μυθοπλαστικό κομμάτι, να καταγράψει και να αναδείξει κάποια από τα προβλήματα που διατρέχουν εδώ και δεκαετίες την κολομβιανή κοινωνία.
Απομακρυσμένες περιοχές ξεχασμένες από τον κρατικό μηχανισμό, όπου οι κάτοικοί ζουν σε υπό το καθεστώς του τρόμ��υ. Διεφθαρμένοι αστυνομικοί και δημόσιοι λειτουργοί. Δολοφονίες των ηγετών και των ανταρτών των Επαναστατικών Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων της Κολομβίας (FARC). Θρησκευτικές αιρέσεις με επιρροή όχι μόνο στην κοινωνία αλλά και στην εθνική πολιτική της χώρας. Πορνεία, trafficking, ναρκωτικά, παραεμπόριο. Αυτά είναι μερικά από τα θέματα τα οποία διαχειρίζεται ο συγγραφέας στα τέσσερα μέρη που συνθέτουν το μυθιστόρημά του.
Το μυθιστόρημα αποκτά ένταση από το ξεκίνημά του σχεδόν, όταν μια ένοπλη επίθεση σε ένα τζιπ χάμερ αφήνει πίσω αρκετούς νεκρούς και ένα μεγάλο μυστήριο. Οι έρευνες, τις οποίες αναλαμβάνουν από κοινού ο εισαγγελέας της Μπογκοτά, δυο έμπιστοι αστυνομικοί και μια δημοσιογράφος με τη βοηθό της, βοηθούν να ξετυλιχτεί το νήμα του μυστηρίου, που μεταξύ άλλων, περιλαμβάνει αιρέσεις και Πίστη στο Θεό, προδοσία και θάνατο και που εν τέλει θα δοκιμάσει τόσο τις ερευνητικές τους ικανότητες, όσο και τα νεύρα τους, σε αυτόν τον αγώνα δρόμου για την αποκάλυψη της αλήθειας.
Με πρόζα που κρατά τον αναγνώστη σε αγωνία εξαρχής, χαρακτήρες άλλοτε εξορισμένους, άλλοτε ηττημένους κι άλλοτε μαχητικούς που αγωνίζονται να ξεφύγουν από την καταπιεστική ζωή τους, με πλοκή πλούσια σε εικόνες της χώρας και της αστικής ζωής και με μια υπέροχη γλώσσα, ο Gamboa, δε δικαιολογεί ούτε εξηγεί, απλά προειδοποιεί πως όντως η νύχτα θα είναι μεγάλη, αφού η εδραίωση της βίας ως πάγια πρακτική, είναι σαν τη μεγαλύτερη νύχτα.
Με το «Η νύχτα θα είναι μεγάλη» ο Santiago Gamboa βυθίζει το δάχτυλο σε μια πληγή που έχει κακοφορμίσει και στάζει πύον και αίμα εστιάζοντας στον ρόλο της θρησκείας στην πολιτική ενός κράτους, θέτοντας ένα θεμελιώδες ερώτημα: Πόσο ακόμα θα απολαμβάνουν την ελευθερία τους αυτές οι ευαγγελικές αιρέσεις, διακυβεύοντας μια δημοκρατία που ήδη κλυδωνίζεται επικίνδυνα υπό το βάρος πολλών δεκαετιών ανυπότακτης θεοκρατίας;

Η αμφισβήτηση του πολέμου, η μοναξιά του μετώπου της μάχης, η αναζήτηση της ρίζας και μια πραγματικότητα που απειλεί να εκραγεί ξανά, είναι αυτά που πραγματεύεται στο νέο του αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα ο Κολομβιανός δημοσιογράφος και συγγραφέας Santiago Gamboa. Ο ίδιος, όπως μας είπε κατά την παρουσίαση του βιβλίου, στα πλαίσια του φεστιβάλ ΛΕΑ 2023 (Λογοτεχνία Εν Αθήναις), προτιμά να το χαρακτηρίζει “novela de periodismo criminal” (μυθιστόρημα εγκληματικής δημοσιογραφίας), γιατί με τη συγγραφή του είχε σκοπό πέρα από το μυθοπλαστικό κομμάτι, να καταγράψει και να αναδείξει κάποια από τα προβλήματα που διατρέχουν εδώ και δεκαετίες την κολομβιανή κοινωνία.
Απομακρυσμένες περιοχές ξεχασμένες από τον κρατικό μηχανισμό, όπου οι κάτοικοί ζουν σε υπό το καθεστώς του τρόμ��υ. Διεφθαρμένοι αστυνομικοί και δημόσιοι λειτουργοί. Δολοφονίες των ηγετών και των ανταρτών των Επαναστατικών Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων της Κολομβίας (FARC). Θρησκευτικές αιρέσεις με επιρροή όχι μόνο στην κοινωνία αλλά και στην εθνική πολιτική της χώρας. Πορνεία, trafficking, ναρκωτικά, παραεμπόριο. Αυτά είναι μερικά από τα θέματα τα οποία διαχειρίζεται ο συγγραφέας στα τέσσερα μέρη που συνθέτουν το μυθιστόρημά του.
Το μυθιστόρημα αποκτά ένταση από το ξεκίνημά του σχεδόν, όταν μια ένοπλη επίθεση σε ένα τζιπ χάμερ αφήνει πίσω αρκετούς νεκρούς και ένα μεγάλο μυστήριο. Οι έρευνες, τις οποίες αναλαμβάνουν από κοινού ο εισαγγελέας της Μπογκοτά, δυο έμπιστοι αστυνομικοί και μια δημοσιογράφος με τη βοηθό της, βοηθούν να ξετυλιχτεί το νήμα του μυστηρίου, που μεταξύ άλλων, περιλαμβάνει αιρέσεις και Πίστη στο Θεό, προδοσία και θάνατο και που εν τέλει θα δοκιμάσει τόσο τις ερευνητικές τους ικανότητες, όσο και τα νεύρα τους, σε αυτόν τον αγώνα δρόμου για την αποκάλυψη της αλήθειας.

El argumento de esta novela me hacia mucha ilusión: un thriller que involucraba el conflicto armado y las iglesias evangélicas tenía todos los ingredientes para ser una historia espectacular, y creo que por ello fue tan grande la decepción. El ritmo del libro es bueno, mantiene al lector todo el tiempo intrigado, con personajes originales cargados de humor (aun cuando van soltando una radiografía bastante cruda sobre la realidad colombiana) sin embargo el problema se formó hacia la mitad del libro cuando se va explorando un poco más a fondo el tema de las iglesias y los pastores.
Al principio me pareció un poco extraño que mencionaran la palabra "rezar" ya que esta es una de las diferencias tajantes que tiene esta denominación respecto al catolicismo. Luego van soltando entonces descripciones de prácticas que no concuerdan con las de un cristiano evangélico, y menos en un pastor: rezan el padrenuestro, mencionan a la virgen, se persignan, y a mí esto ya me pareció grave ¿acaso el autor no investigó sobre esta denominación que tiene miles de iglesias por todo el mundo, con muchos seguidores y miles de lugares en internet de donde obtener información? los evangélicos oran (es decir hablan con Dios como si fuese un amigo), no creen en la Virgen, y por supuesto que no se persignan. Cuando los dos pastores relatan su historia ya no me resulto extraño que no usaran el lenguaje tan característico que comparten los pentecostales: no mencionan el cambio que produjo en sus vidas el encuentro con Jesús, ni la cruz, tampoco el "escuchar la voz de Dios".
En la descripción de las personas que asistían a la iglesia también hay una desconexión gigante, hay un grupo de mujeres que describen en el libro que se supone van a la iglesia "Nueva Jerusalén" que siguen diciendo palabras soeces, toman licor, se visten con ropa ajustada y provocativa, cosas que aún y en las iglesias pentecostales de corte más liberal es completamente rechazado. En fin es como si el autor hubiese buscado un culto de algún pastor por internet para escuchar su discurso y tomar notas muy por encima.
Y esto por supuesto que afectó terriblemente el desarrollo de la historia, la resolución del conflicto es totalmente inverosímil porque el pastor es el representante de Cristo para la iglesia, y por ello casi que es una regla general que quienes aspiran a este puesto (además de pasar por varios procesos de liderazgo y un estudio en un seminario bíblico que los "certifica") deben de tener una esposa que halla pasado por estos mismos procesos, esto es muy importante pues ellos son el ejemplo de la familia y el orden, así que por supuesto el vínculo entre los dos pastores que se presenta en el libro es difícil de creer. Además, Gamboa deja muchos cabos sueltos como todo el asunto de los tatuajes que me parece a mi más natural de una secta satánica que de una cristiana, por no decir que un pastor fundador de tantas iglesias en una ciudad como Brasil tendría tanto trabajo que difícilmente podría dedicarse a una segunda practica como la mencionada en el libro. Nada tiene sentido, y es una pena porque en un país como Colombia en la que estos lideres tienen un poder político tan grande, y en donde abundan las denuncias no solo por enriquecimiento ilícito, si no por abusos sexuales y acoso, me parece que la historia pudo tomar un rumbo menos peliculesco y lograr hacer una denuncia seria y un thriller emocionante de principio a fin, sin embargo es una historia donde los antagonistas parecen más narcos que lideres espirituales, y creo que el autor no logra plasmar muy bien esos intereses escondidos que guardan tras esa fachada de hijos de Dios.

I am a big fan of Colombian novelists: Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Héctor Abad Faciolince, Laura Restrepo, Fernando Vallejo and of course, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. So a chance article on some more writers suggested Santiago Gamboa (Bogotá, 1965) and my local library had a Spanish copy of this book.
The book starts off with a raging gun battle along a highway that is witnessed by a teen boy, Franklin. An orphan. The nearby citizens claim they heard nothing. Can you believe the kid? Two women journalists take notice. When the bodies show up, the government prosecutor gets involved. The three dead men had the same tattoo’s, “Estamos curados”. Cured from what? The hidden story starts to be uncovered.
The story is set in recent times in Colombia. What can happen after the decades long violence of cartel violence or the leftist guerrillas FARC? How about religious wars? Or illegal mining? Or the outcomes of all that violence?
In nearby Brazil there is a lot of Pentecostal churches that wield a lot of power, including some backing the current president. A good premise? Add in some seedy background types, toss in a turf wars, throw in some sultry women and you have a ambitious thriller.
Now I will be the first to admit, this is not my genre. However I liked this premise and felt compelled to get to the bottom of it all. There was some good writing here and the plot moved along well. The characters themselves were an odd bunch.
Julieta, one of the journalist, had a drinking problem and liked to get lucky wherever and whenever. She had no problem dropping off her kids with her abusive and condescending ex-husband. Half the time she seemed in a drunken fog, even though she plays a key part. Her colleague, Johana was an ex-FARC guerilla and had such a low key part, I wasn’t sure what she was doing on her laptop. A quiet but very needed sidekick? The prosecutor was too cool for words and also had a eager side kick, Laiseca, who was always ignored. A very strange way of operating but hey, it’s fiction.
Getting to the bottom of things certainly has its challenges. And perhaps this was the point of the book, things are not as simple as they appear. The ending was better than what a I expected.
Not bad story. Or maybe not my cup of tea. However I would be willing to read another Gamboa. Add him to my list.

A well-structured crime novel with two particularly strong points: the pace and the setting in Colombia. I raced through it, which is also a compliment to the translator.
It starts very spectacularly with an ambush attack on a convoy crossing a river in the middle of nowhere. A shoot-out ensues and a helicopter arrives on the scene transporting to safety an unknown VIP.
What happened? If the army isn't involved then who were shooting at each other? Who is the unknown VIP? And why does the police try to cover everything up?
A journalist and prosecutor try to unravel the mystery.
Although I like TV police series and thriller movies, I tend to avoid crime novels as I often got disappointed (especially by the quality of the writing) and prefer to spend valuable reading time on literary fiction. But this one was really propulsive, revealing an additional piece of the puzzle on almost every page. The characters are slightly caricatural, but that didn't matter so much.
The plot is central, so that what we learn about the Colombian society and especially its conflict and peace process is always at the service of the narrative.
Well recommended if you want an original and not-too-complex page-turner in an exotic setting.

Para mí está historia tiene un 4.7 de 5.
La disfruté muchísimo, incluso en medio de tanta ansiedad y letargo por cuenta de esta cuarentena, pero me ha costado mucho retomarla y terminarla sin olvidar la inmensa cantidad de detalles.
Es el primer libro que leo de Santiago Gamboa y disfruté muchísimo su pluma y la fidelidad con que cada personaje puede expresarse en diálogos y gestos (más si hay caleños en la historia). No obstante quedé con mucha incertidumbre y con un diminuto sinsabor en el epílogo, pues bien se adentra en un mundo que pocos conocemos, no me es posible empatizar con los dos personajes que construyen la trama.
Cabe anotar que es una historia intensa y muy cercana a nuestra realidad en del último año, por eso es fácil conectarse y disfrutarla.
Espero seguir explorando a Gamboa pues he recibido buenas referencias.

the search for christ is an attempt to alleviate sorrows, but especially to find the missing father. it's because this country is full of orphans that so many people fall to their knees at altars, in sacristies, and in churches. all of them longing for a father. if you aren't able to understand that, julieta, you know nothing about the country you're living in.a consistently suspenseful, well-plotted thriller from colombian novelist santiago gamboa, the night will be long (será larga la noche) is less narcoviolent globetrotting than its predecessors and more religious corruption, hypocrisy, and vengeance. gamboa's books (this the fourth rendered into english) tend to have a fair amount of sex and violence, though this one perhaps with fewer bodies than the others. with an almost cinematic storytelling style and some distinctly drawn characters, gamboa's latest is another satisfying, energetic tale of the criminal underworld.

Overall a gripping and enjoyable read. Fast-paced, action-packed. Violent themes, but not descriptively violent. I found the dialogues a bit too much to handle. Just too much of it, and about half of it cluttered with clichéd expressions. I want this to either be a film or at least a play of some sort. At its core, a rather well-composed story; but the semi-romantic, explicitly-sexual subplots are rather unnecessary as they do not contribute much to the main plot at all. Unnecessary but not badly written. Perhaps they were only there to 'lighten' the heavier themes and scenes in the novel. For an almost 400-pages-long book, this was not a hard one to get through at all. I am quite ignorant (still; and shamefully) when it comes to Latin American history, but I'm assuming someone who has a better sense of it will have an even more rewarding reading experience of Gamboa's novel. If you enjoyed the film, 'Sicario' (2015), you'll probably enjoy Gamboa's novel as well.
Europa Editions truly be coming out with all sorts of interesting books; and this one's quite a star of its own. I'm rating it a little less than it deserves because of how dialogue-heavy the writing was. It just wasn't something that I like, but I can imagine someone else appreciating it more than I do. A more thorough review to come later.

��ην ξανά πάτησα με ένα κακό βιβλίο. Δεν ξέρω τι συμβαίνει....
Διαβάζεις το οπισθόφυλλο και λες ουαου κάτι υπάρχει εδώ! Όχι, δεν υπάρχει τίποτα, ότι γράφει στο οπισθόφυλλο, που δεν οδηγεί πουθενά.
Πρωταγωνίστρια είναι μια δημοσιογράφος που, έπειτα από πληροφορία του εισαγγελέα, ξεκινά να ψάχνει στοιχεία για ένα " αιματηρό επεισόδιο" που συνέβη κάπου στην επαρχία. Δεν μαθαίνουμε ποτέ αν έγραψε το άρθρο.
Ο συμπαθής εισαγγελέας που ξεκίνησε την όλη ιστορία, δεν μαθαίνουμε ποτέ αν καταδίκασε κάποιον. Οι ένοχοι του παραπάνω επεισοδίου συνέχισαν να κυκλοφορούν ελεύθεροι. 😒
Σε ένα σημείο, η πρωταγωνίστρια είναι παρούσα σε μια δολοφονία σε μια καφετέρια. Την ίδια μέρα έγιναν άλλες 3. Δεν μαθαίνουμε ποτέ τι συνέβη ή αν συνδέονται με την βασική υπόθεση.
Γενικά ένας αχρείαστος αχταρμάς!
Δυστυχώς ούτε η γραφή τραβούσε, περιγραφές και ονόματα χωρίς νόημα, συναντήσεις και κουβέντες χωρίς νόημα. Η δημοσιογράφος να φαντασιώνεται το εσώρουχο της βοηθού της, χωρίς νόημα. Να βρίζει τον πρώην της χωρίς νόημα..... Γενικά δεν.
Επίσης, στην αρχή του βιβλίου λέει ότι ο πρώην άνδρας της είναι δημοσιογράφος. Δύο κεφάλαια μετά, που το αναλύει περισσότερο, ότι είναι δικηγόρος. Ότι να ναι!
Το σημείο, όμως, που ξενέρωσα και μετά από εκεί κ πέρα διάβαζα με το ζόρι είχε να κάνει με την υπόθεση των "ψευδώς θετικών". Σε ένα σημείο της αφήγησης αναφέρει αυτή τη φράση και παραπομπή για επεξήγηση από τη μεταφράστρια. Στην επεξήγηση αναφέρει ότι πρόκειται σε σφαγές αμάχων από την FARC κατά τη διάρκεια του εμφυλίου. Σαν σπασικλακι που είμαι, έψαξα για περεταίρω πληροφορίες και βρήκα ότι τις σφαγές τις έκανε ο κρατικός στρατός, για " αυξήσει τα ποσοστά" του, στο πόλεμο ΕΝΑΝΤΙΟΝ της FARC. Δεν περιγράφω άλλο!
Διαβάζεις το οπισθόφυλλο και λες ουαου κάτι υπάρχει εδώ! Όχι, δεν υπάρχει τίποτα, ότι γράφει στο οπισθόφυλλο, που δεν οδηγεί πουθενά.
Πρωταγωνίστρια είναι μια δημοσιογράφος που, έπειτα από πληροφορία του εισαγγελέα, ξεκινά να ψάχνει στοιχεία για ένα " αιματηρό επεισόδιο" που συνέβη κάπου στην επαρχία. Δεν μαθαίνουμε ποτέ αν έγραψε το άρθρο.
Ο συμπαθής εισαγγελέας που ξεκίνησε την όλη ιστορία, δεν μαθαίνουμε ποτέ αν καταδίκασε κάποιον. Οι ένοχοι του παραπάνω επεισοδίου συνέχισαν να κυκλοφορούν ελεύθεροι. 😒
Σε ένα σημείο, η πρωταγωνίστρια είναι παρούσα σε μια δολοφονία σε μια καφετέρια. Την ίδια μέρα έγιναν άλλες 3. Δεν μαθαίνουμε ποτέ τι συνέβη ή αν συνδέονται με την βασική υπόθεση.
Γενικά ένας αχρείαστος αχταρμάς!
Δυστυχώς ούτε η γραφή τραβούσε, περιγραφές και ονόματα χωρίς νόημα, συναντήσεις και κουβέντες χωρίς νόημα. Η δημοσιογράφος να φαντασιώνεται το εσώρουχο της βοηθού της, χωρίς νόημα. Να βρίζει τον πρώην της χωρίς νόημα..... Γενικά δεν.
Επίσης, στην αρχή του βιβλίου λέει ότι ο πρώην άνδρας της είναι δημοσιογράφος. Δύο κεφάλαια μετά, που το αναλύει περισσότερο, ότι είναι δικηγόρος. Ότι να ναι!
Το σημείο, όμως, που ξενέρωσα και μετά από εκεί κ πέρα διάβαζα με το ζόρι είχε να κάνει με την υπόθεση των "ψευδώς θετικών". Σε ένα σημείο της αφήγησης αναφέρει αυτή τη φράση και παραπομπή για επεξήγηση από τη μεταφράστρια. Στην επεξήγηση αναφέρει ότι πρόκειται σε σφαγές αμάχων από την FARC κατά τη διάρκεια του εμφυλίου. Σαν σπασικλακι που είμαι, έψαξα για περεταίρω πληροφορίες και βρήκα ότι τις σφαγές τις έκανε ο κρατικός στρατός, για " αυξήσει τα ποσοστά" του, στο πόλεμο ΕΝΑΝΤΙΟΝ της FARC. Δεν περιγράφω άλλο!

El regreso de Gamboa a la novela negra, la policíaca, la de crónica roja, me lo esperaba con ansias. Al principio fue todo maravillas, los personajes fantásticos, el involucrar iglesias cristianas, minería ilegal, desmovilizados y la reaparición del gran Víctor Silanpa era del todo emocionante. Sin embargo, el clímax de la novela se debilitó, los personajes, en especial los villanos, se derrumbaron y el desenlace es mas de una novelón romántico y lacrimógeno. No resultó del todo aburrido, por las mordaces y acertadas críticas de Gamboa a nuestra sociedad y su sarcástico humor, pero las últimas páginas fueron de rápida lectura para acabar algo que se ponía muy pesado.

A good literary thriller packed with cultural, political and social Colombian colour. It's very different to his other books, which, while they do have criminal themes, are much more dense. As always, Andrea Rosenberg's translation is impeccable.

¡¡Primera novela que leo se Gamboa y me gustó!!
Un thriller criollo, al más puro estilo colombiano con una trama que parece la realidad misma de este platanal donde también vivo.
Como colombiano no tuve ningún problema en identificar todo lo que se narra y que ha sucedido y marcado la historia del país. Sin ir más lejos que mostrando el conflicto colombiano en todas sus formas, desde los enfrentamientos en zonas olvidadas por el gobierno como lo son el Cauca o la violencia urbana como lo es Cali, es prácticamente una radiografía de nuestra actualidad y nuestra situación criminal, política y hasta moral (creería yo) ya que Al involucrar en esta trama los trapos sucios de las iglesias evangélicas, que muchas de ellas solo quieren lucrarse a sus anchas y aprovechando el dinero y el poder para modificar e influir en las altas esferas, perpetuando la corrupción y la falta de esperanzas por justicia; al menos hay algunos cuantos que están en el lado que quiere hacer los correcto como lo es el Trío del fiscal Jutsiñamuy, la periodista Julieta Lezama y su ayudante Johana, me encantó ese equipo.
Espero leer pronto Colombian Psycho.

This is a very enjoyable crime thriller set in Columbia; a country filled with violence due to sicarios and civil war. We learn a little about the Colombian conflict and the parties involved such as the paramilitaries, guerrillas and FARC. The Night Will Be Long revolves around one particular violent crime. The central question is who was the attacker and who was the victim. The story eventually delves into the evangelical churches in Columbia and it is fascinating to see what religion is like in that region.
The crime is ultimately of a personal nature and while I liked the reveal and circumstances surrounding the crime, I wanted more from the ending. Given the magnitude of the crime and the time we spent peeling the layers of this crime, I just wanted more out of the final confrontation. A less quiet ending than the one we got. Overall, this is a highly entertaining crime thriller set in a violent war-torn region filled with a rich history and culture.

"Será larga la noche" muestra el problema de la violencia en Colombia pero de una parte menos conocida. Un mundo tenebroso de desigualdades en el cuál la miseria, las carencias, la inconsciencia o la incultura generan una tendencia a la dependencia emocional y espiritual.
Un fiscal, una periodista y su asistente, una ex guerrillera de las FARC, llevarán a cabo un arriesgado trabajo de investigación acerca de un terrible conflicto en una carretera perdida al suroeste del país...
El estilo narrativo de Gamboa es formidable y pese a la crudeza de los asuntos que se tratan, sus notas de humor me sacaron más de una sonrisa.
Un autor súper recomendado y que seguro volveré a leer.

La acabo de terminar y todavía estoy procesando si me gustó o no. Es una novela entretenida que me recordó a novelas como las de Dan Brown que están bien escritas, te mantienen en suspenso pero de las que salgo sintiendo que algo me hizo falta. Como si les faltara esa profundidad literaria que hace que subrayemos frases, que pensemos "cómo carajos este autor escribió esto" y que no solo nos entretienen.
Es una historia al estilo Sherlock Holmes que de la mano de tres personajes: una periodista alcohólica que pone el trabajo por encima de la familia, una ex guerrillera que se las sabe casi todas y un fiscal comprometido con la justicia, nos van desenredando un crimen que involucra pastores de iglesias y paramilitares. Sin lugar a dudas podrán leerla en dos sentadas y no se van a arrepentir porque es una lectura fácil, porque acaso ¿quién no se siente abducido por las pistas de un misterio que van llegando poco a poco? y porque a medida que uno lee es inevitable pensar que si lo adaptaran al cine uno iría a verla, es el guión perfecto para una película (no creo que sea casualidad ya que el autor escribió PERDER ES CUESTIÓN DE MÉTODO, libro que fue llevado al cine en el 2005).
Me gustaron sus personajes aunque algunos diálogos me parecieran sosos. El final me pareció abrupto y me hizo falta que fuera menos rosa y más negro, que sería más acorde al hilo de violencia y suspenso que traía la historia. Los monólogos de los pastores contando su historia me parecieron muy largos y generaron en mi lo opuesto a lo que le ocurre a Julieta, me aburrieron y no me hizo simpatizar con ellos. Pero es una novela que los amantes de los thrillers, el misterio y las resoluciones policiacas amarán.
NOTA: Encontré una reflexión similar en este libro y en "salvar el fuego" de Arriaga:
- "Los hombres tenían cicatrices ... Todo lo que se veía en ellos contaba algo y ese era su retrato. Hoy no es así. La ropa la venden ya rota, y como no tienen cicatrices se hacen tatuajes, queriendo poner historias en sus pieles que no han sufrido." Será larga la noche. Pág. 318.
- "Las clases media y alta viven ahora tan protegidas, su existencia tan controlada, que carecen de cicatrices. Y a falta de cicatrices se tatúan. También por eso la ropa nueva que compran está rota y con desgaste simulado... cicatrices en la piel y en la tela para heridas inexistentes." Salvar el fuego. Pág. 114.

- "La terca esperanza humana que se obstina en creer que lo mejor está aún por venir y que permite sobrellevar pesadas cargas."
Voy a empezar ya mismo a leer "Colombian Pyscho" (novela del kit de lectura de @sociedadinusual de este mes) la última novela del autor que vuelve a traer a los mismos protagonistas en un nuevo crimen a las afueras de Bogotá. Les contaré...

Ορίστε ένα βιβλίο που πολύ θα ήθελα να μου είχε αρέσει, να με είχε συνεπάρει, να με είχε ταξιδέψει αλλά δεν… Με είχε προειδοποιήσει ο τίτλος ότι η νύχτα θα είναι μεγάλη, αλλά ήταν κάπως ατελείωτη!
Το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο έχει ένα πολύ ενδιαφέρον μυστήριο στην αρχή του: μια "γκανγκστερική" επίθεση σε έναν επαρχιακό δρόμο στην οποία μετά κάποιος πέρασε σαν σκούπα και εξαφάνισε όλα τα στοιχεία. Μόνος μάρτυρας ένας πιτσιρικάς ο οποίος εφόσον δεν υπάρχει ούτε μισός κάλυκας, ίσως να λέει και ψέματα! Το μυστήριο καλούνται να λύσουν ένας εισαγγελέας, μια δημοσιογράφος και η βοηθός της. Ωραιότατα μέχρι εδώ!
Μόνο που η δημοσιογράφος έχει κάτι παιδιά που τα θυμάται ενίοτε και τους τηλεφωνεί αλλά δεν πολυμιλάνε (δεν το αναπτύσσει παραπάνω), δύο φορές έχει ερωτικές σκέψεις προς την βοηθό της (δεν το αναπτύσσει παραπάνω), μάλλον έχει θέμα με το αλκοόλ (δεν το αναπτύσσει παραπάνω). Επίσης ο πιτσιρικάς ψάχνει την μάνα του που δεν έχει γνωρίσει ποτέ αλλά όταν του δίνεται η ευκαιρία αλλάζει γνώμη. Επίσης είναι κάτι παπάδες εγκληματίες μπλεγμένοι αλλά την γλιτώνουν όλοι. Επίσης έχει κάτι μεταφυσικά (δεν τα αναπτύσσει παραπάνω). Επίσης ο εισαγγελέας πάνω από μία φορά καλεί τον αστυνόμο/βοηθό του, τον ρωτάει αν ο άλλος αστυνόμος είναι εκεί, του απαντάει Ναι και τον ρωτάει αν θέλει να του μιλήσει και ο εισαγγελέας λέει Όχι. Κάθε φορά ο ίδιος διάλογος! Επίσης οπότε κάποιος πάει σε καφέ/εστιατόριο/μπαρ αναλύεται όλος ο κατάλογος. Και δεν με νοιαζει στο κάτω κάτω!
Γενικά, δεν τρελάθηκα από την πρώτη μου επαφή με τον Γκαμπόα. Βρήκα το βιβλίο υπερβολικά φλύαρο χωρίς λόγο και ενώ είχε μια πλοκή πολλά υποσχόμενη έμεινε στις υποσχέσεις. Δεν ξέρω αν θα ξαναδιά��αζα κάτι δικό του, αν και διάφοροι φίλοι μου έχουν πει τα καλύτερα για τα έργα του. Και επιβεβαιώνεται, μάλλον, το ότι δεν γίνεται να αρέσουν όλα σε όλους και ότι τα γούστα είναι υποκειμενικά και ότι περί ορέξεως κολοκυθόπιτα!

Wow, this was a thrill to read.
On all accounts, this book is superior to most of the senseless drivel published in the States and in Europe, all the woke, boring, repetitive, faux-political, gender ideological, racially-profiting, fat-embracing manifestations of weakness and insecurity that are nowadays considered literature.
It was so utterly refreshing to read something real, sensible, intense, cultural and entirely lacking in preachiness or condescension. This was a real novel, an old school work of literature about a spectacular, beautiful country broken apart by social unrest, by crime, corruption, deep and dark and utterly human needs, which bypass class, religion, upbringing and ethnicity. This was a story about Colombia, a country I am currently falling in love with, written with immense love for it, but also with immense knowledge and street-level insight. It is not nearly as exciting a story as it is a social fresco. It is not so much a character-driven epic, as it is a modern history of guerrillas, cults, gold mining, police and journalistic investigation, the tragedies and despairs of the poor, the cultural conflicts and differences between the intense cities and the forgotten jungles, the guns, bullets and blood of so many people drowning the soil and feeding the rivers.
This should be read by more people. This kind of literature should be the starting point for anything publishable.

This is a curious beast. Ostensibly a who/why dunnit investigation into a mysterious gunfight between two heavily armed groups on a country road through the jungle, it thrashed about offering differing perspectives on life in post-civil war Columbia. The overall narrative style feels a bit formal and unnatural in places and chunks are given over to 'character storytelling' which along with the dual investigating 'protaganists' makes the entirety bitty and indistinct.
Additionally, Gamboa seems to be attempting to say something in the subtext about God, life, country, orphans, and the power of the written/spoken word. What he is trying to say (if anything) is hard to fathom but the novel and its characters quite frequently veer off into metaphysical musings whilst sidelining or ignoring plot resolution/progression.
Much of the characterisation is inconsistent, it was hard to invest emotionally in any of the central characters, and there were some interactions whose purpose passed me by completely. Ultimately the storyline is unsatisfactory with the main plot inadequately investigated and many of the subplots deliberately unresolved.
Overall interesting in its portrayal of Columbian culture and environs but lacking as a compelling narrative.
Additionally, Gamboa seems to be attempting to say something in the subtext about God, life, country, orphans, and the power of the written/spoken word. What he is trying to say (if anything) is hard to fathom but the novel and its characters quite frequently veer off into metaphysical musings whilst sidelining or ignoring plot resolution/progression.
Much of the characterisation is inconsistent, it was hard to invest emotionally in any of the central characters, and there were some interactions whose purpose passed me by completely. Ultimately the storyline is unsatisfactory with the main plot inadequately investigated and many of the subplots deliberately unresolved.
Overall interesting in its portrayal of Columbian culture and environs but lacking as a compelling narrative.

I'll start with saying I gave it a four star rating because I ended up having more questions with the end of the story as I had when I started it!
I don't know if, in future books, the author will return to the characters mentioned in this one and offer some explanation for their actions!
Great work, though, from Santiago Gamboa, who inserted cleverly in his mystery the socio-economic and political status of Colombia and also customs of various tribes and ethnicity!
A special reference gets food, drink art, and music!
The mystery is quite decent, and even though the story is slow paced, it keeps the reader's interest!
The three main characters are likeable, with Julieta being the more complex one and Edilson Justiñamuy the one I liked best!
Amidst corruption, murder and betrayal, the three of them are searching for the truth and justice!
The two main suspects have both their bitter pasts and events that shaped them to become what they are today! Their complex personalities make it difficult to define them as evil or good!
The one story missing is that of Clarisa! I would have liked to know the motives of her actions and why she accepted the behaviour of her partner!

Πολύ καλό αστυνομικό από έναν δεξιοτέχνη χειριστή των εκφραστικών μέσων. Ενδιαφέρον θέμα που απασχολεί την πατρίδα του συγγραφέα , την Κολομβία, αλλά προσφέρεται κι ως ρεαλιστικός καμβάς σε σπιντάτο αστυνομικό. Δε χρειάστηκε να εμβαθύνει στους ήρωες κατά το σχετικό κλισέ διότι η αποκρυπτογράφηση της ζωής, της προσωπικότητας και της ταυτότητας του καθενός ήταν ο πυρήνας του θέματος. Δε λέω περισσότερα. Το βιβλίο κλείνει με "επίλογο" για να δοθούν στον αναγνώστη κάποιες απαντήσεις που πιθανόν του διέφυγαν κατά το ξεδίπλωμα της πλοκής αλλά τελικά αποδεικνύεται ότι ήταν ο τρόπος του συγγραφέα να γελάσει δυνατά μέσα στα μούτρα του αναγνώστη του ο οποίος μένει τουλάχιστον εμβρόντητος με το ανοιχτό, αδόκητο κι ανεξήγητο τέλος που του προσφέρεται. Αυτό είναι η αντίληψη του Γκαμπόα για την ανατροπή που "οφείλουν" να έχουν τα αστυνομικά μυθιστορήματα. Εξαιρετική επιλογή για καλοκαιρινές αναγνωστικές βουτιές.

Ο Κολομβιανός συγγραφέας Γκαμπόα στο συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο παρουσιάζει ένα αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα με φόντο τις κοινωνικές και πολιτικές συνθήκες της Κολομβίας. Με μια προσθήκη του θρησκευτικού στοιχείου συνθέτει ένα έργο που δεν αφήνει τον αναγνώστη αδιάφορο.
Η διαφθορά κ η βία, οι εναλλαγές προσώπων, γεγονότων κ τόπων στο μέγιστο βαθμό. Με απόλυτο ρεαλισμό κ ωμότητα γίνεται η αφήγηση.
Ένα βιβλίο 520 σελίδων που απολαμβάνεις χωρίς να κουράζεσαι.
Αυτό που με έκανε να νιώσω σύνδεση ήταν οι ιστορίες των χαρακτήρων.
Η διαφθορά κ η βία, οι εναλλαγές προσώπων, γεγονότων κ τόπων στο μέγιστο βαθμό. Με απόλυτο ρεαλισμό κ ωμότητα γίνεται η αφήγηση.

Una vez más, Gamboa me engancha con su forma tan fresca de narrar este país. La descripción de sus personajes enamora, porque uno los identifica como si fueran los amigos de uno o personas que se pudo haber encontrado en la vida. Esto me pone siempre a pensar que vemos tan poco de las personas, solo sus encantos y taras; aunque muy poco sabemos sobre el origen de sus dramas y los fundamentos recónditos de sus buenos o malos actos.
Disfruté, como siempre, la lectura de cada capítulo de esta obra, con su sarcasmo, sus momentos crudos, sus escenas un tanto eróticas; pero confieso que al final me quedé con la sensación de que me hizo falta algo. Aunque Gamboa no estila finales de película, sino finales sencillos como los de la vida real, si creo que faltó un poquito de sal y pimienta en los dos últimos capítulos.

If every crime novel was this delicious blend of Bolano, Christie, and Le Carre, then I might be set for life. Set in a post-peace treaty Columbia, Gamboa has penned a rambunctious, frenetic, and often sensual novel about a hard-bitten journalist, her assistant (a former FARC member), and a principled-yet-pragmatic prosecutor join forces to solve a richly layered crime. Their goal: to investigate two powerful pastors who have been involved in a range of nefarious activities starting with an intense shootout on a mountain pass that is quickly covered up.
The intricate tale follows the main characters in, around, and through Columbia - the countryside, small towns, big cities, and beyond. Side characters large and small make regular appearances, whether to inject a bit of dark humor (the prosecutor's assistants), domestic tension (the journalist's family), or raw charisma (one of the pastors under investigation). Each revelation in the mystery seems to bring up multiple new threads, but even with the tumult of events swirling about, Gamboa manages to corral the action while keeping you guessing.
This is no mere pulpy potboiler that happens to be set in South America. The novel effortlessly discusses the multifaceted sociopolitical situations in Columbia with a deft hand that never feels too heavy. The characters themselves never feel bleak or despondent, even though they regularly trade barbs, witticisms, and cliches about the hard day-to-day realities in their country. Even then, those stories and aphorisms serve to push the story forward and aid in character development. As in, Gamboa doesn't add those details to make overt points about the various plights in his home country - he adds them because they serve the needs of the story.
This absolutely stunning novel exudes flair and heart, especially in its sumptuous descriptions of nature, food, clothing, scenery, and the main characters' inner dialogues. If you've ever wanted a book that combines crime thriller, mysteries, and cultural treatise, then you need to read this one.
