A cheating husband. A vengeful wife. And a plan that goes terribly wrong.
When Eloise discovers her husband Jared has fathered a son with another woman, Tina, there’s no way she’s forgiving him. But divorce will leave her with nothing, thanks to a prenup.
Instead, she takes her time plotting a murderous revenge with the help of her loyal cousin Ricky. Her plan is simple – she’ll kill Jared and set Tina up to take the fall.
That way she'll stay free to inherit what she really Jared's money. And with Ricky's help, it all seems possible.
What Eloise hasn't counted on is Ricky's unpredictable state of mind. Driven by a dangerous obsession with Tina, he’s slowly disconnecting from reality. Instead of following Eloise's plan, he thinks up one of his own. One that leaves Eloise in a place she never thought possible, even in her worst nightmares.
Her Husband’s Secret – the stunning psychological thriller perfect for fans of Teresa Driscoll, Freida McFadden, Daniel Hurst.
Emily lives in the mountains of North Carolina and loves hiking with her dogs--only when she's not thinking up twisted tales, that is. She loves books that keep you up long after you should be in bed.
Oh yes, she knows. Eloise discovered that her husband Jared had an affair with Tina, a former bartender, and fathered a son named Luke. He had given Tina a false name and no way to contact him, so when he broke up with her after telling her he loved her, Tina had no way to contact Jared about the baby. Unfortunately for Eloise, who refuses to forgive her husband and wants out of the marriage, a divorce with their prenup ensures she gets absolutely nothing. She contacts her cousin Ricky, who is homeless and desperate for money, and hatches a plan for her revenge: she will push them together, make it seems as though the affair has continued, then have Ricky kill Jared and frame Tina as the jealous mistress. This way, she won’t lose what she loves and values most about her marriage: Jared’s money. Unfortunately, the one variable that Eloise didn’t expect is Ricky’s fluctuating state of mind. He develops a dangerous obsession with Tina, and decides she is meant to be his. As he disconnects further from reality, he decides to break away from Eloise’s plan and develop one of his own. Unfortunately for Eloise, that will leave her where she never imagined possible— not even in her wildest nightmares.
Wow—what a page-turner! I couldn’t stop reading this novel by Emily Shiner! There are so many moving parts, so much happening, yet with the state of mind that poor Ricky is in, you can see Eloise’s perfect plan slowly implode while he stalks Tina by being everywhere she is, not thinking clearly as to why she wouldn’t want him near in order to protect herself and her young son. Ricky’s convoluted thinking is that Tina will love him like he loves her, and they will be together—a little family with Luke. You definitely have empathy for the state of mind Ricky is in; it seems he has suffered a psychotic break. At the same time, you can completely relate to the intensifying fear Tina feels every time he shows up, at her home and the school where she now works, afraid of his delusions and increasing fascination with her. The story is very well developed and revealed, and exceptionally well-written and descriptive with many less-than sympathetic characters that make it interesting and well worth the read. I have only one word for Eloise: karma. Emily Shiner has authored many other books as well that I will have to put on my TBR shelf. I recommend this to all thriller fans, especially psychological thrillers!
I’d like to thank Booksprout, Emily Shiner, and Inkubator Books for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

with well-developed characters, lots of twists, sinister secrets and fast pace, I was quickly pulled into this story. I couldn't wait to see how the story was going to unfold, and what the outcome would be. This story is told from Eloise, Jared and Tina's perspectives. There are parts that seemed a little far-fetched. I liked how the story ended.
I would like to thank #Netgalley #InkubatorBooks and the author #EmilyShiner for my ARC of #HerHusbandsSecret in exchange for an honest review.
This was an ok read, it I found the plot to be convoluted and unrealistic. It centers on Eloise, who finds out her husband had an affair and comes up with a revenge plot that will leave him dead and her with all of his money. We also get chapters told from the POV of Tina, with whom he had the affair, who thinks Eloise is her friend.
The pacing of the book is a little slow with some repetitiveness, but it’s easy to read. It’s clear that Eloise is a horrible person but the author clearly intends the readers to see her as a villain. My major issue is that the plot she comes up with is just so convoluted and I kept thinking that there HAD to be an easier way to get revenge than go through all of that. Also, no one would have ever instilled someone like Ricky as a major part of their plan; Ricky clearly had some kind of sever mental disability. There was no real plot twist in the book, though the ending provided a bit of a surprise and was satisfying overall.
At the end of the day, this was an interesting read but I kept getting distracted from the story due to the reasons mentioned above. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This affirms a women scorned is not a good thing. Told mainly from Eloise and Tina's point of view . The plot centres on an elaborate revenge plan after cheating is discovered. The plan is complicated and the more you rely on others the more it could go wrong.
The opening chapters were a good hook in . The elaborate plot was unbelievable in places and the twists were good but i gueesed the ending early on. The characters were developed but as it went ott i felt the character of Ricky needed more background and how the affair was discovered was not given the right reveal and this could have enhanced my enjoyment. It was a good solid 4 star read well worth your time but be prepared for unbelievably far fetched twists. Thank you netgallery for my arc
Jealousy,Murder and Real Estate Her Husband’s Secret is a Standalone psychological thriller by Emily Shiner.Focusing on Eloise,Tina and her son Luke.Eloise’s husband has a secret, and Eloise knows what it is. My favourite character was Tina, she was honest and real, with no heirs and graces and was really likeable character. All the characters were brilliantly written and all had depth to them.Ricky was quite an off the wall character, but I did actually feel empathy for him as he was a victim too. My favourite part of the story was epilogue,I was pleased that good won out in the end. The story was gripping proving there is nothing as deadly a a woman scorned.A must read for fans of thrillers and of Emily Shiner,I have read other books by this author and she is brilliant Bookworm rating 🐛🐛🐛🐛🐛/5
another psychological thriller - surprise surprise! i was worried this book would be way too similar to the many other “my husband had an affair and now i must seek revenge” books ive read but it wasn’t! the second half of the book picked up quickly, but i really was unimpressed by the ending 🥲 overall, a nice little 3 ⭐️ read
Tina has a 3-year-old son, Luke. She lives with Paula. They're looking for a roommate. It becomes Ricky. A very dark dude. I was deeply shocked when he started listing facts about Tina's life. Like her, I was very scared. Is he her stalker? You will find out by reading a book called "Her husband's secret". Eloise is another character. She is married to Jared. It works professionally. She has ambitious plans all the time. She takes revenge on her husband. What did he do to her? A very interesting and at the same time dark psychological thriller. It keeps you hooked from the very beginning. Fast-paced action with amazing twists makes this book simply impossible to put down on the shelf. I am thrilled with its story. I read every page with excitement. There are themes of betrayal, hatred, revenge and death. Are you curious to know all the secrets of our characters? Get ready for dangerous driving. I recommend.
Did you like a page turning suspense book? Do you like to guess how it going to end and love a plot twist? If you’re saying yes this book is for you!! I loved every minute of it, you have a sweet single mother doing everything to get by with her three year old son. Even if it means living with a creepy man, but things are about to change when she does what she thinks is best for her son to find out it’s a huge trap to get her framed for murder!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I've read a few books by Emily Shiner now so when I see this book available on netgalley I jumped at the chance for it. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this as much as I hoped I would. I felt that it was slow to build. I loved the premise of it, it has alot of potential but unfortunately it felt a bit flat for me. The one thing I did enjoy is Ricky, he gave the physiological thriller a bit of suspense and was creepy towards Tina.
Eloise has everything, a rich husband, a big house in a nice neighbourhood, never wants for anything. The only thing she could never provide her husband with is a child. Tina is a single mum to Luke, working in daycare so he's look after while she earns enough money to keep a roof over their head. Luke was the product of a one night stand and Tina was never able to find his real father. Everything changes when Ricky moves into their shared house. This is a story of greed and arrogance, of survival and doing your best with what you have. It's also a story of obsession and mental illness. I think Ricky is one of the creepiest characters I've ever read. I wanted to scream at Tina to tell Eloise. Eloise was cool, calm, clever and calculating. Tina a little naive but when you're desperate and poor and just trying to do the best you can, it makes you more vulnerable. She is the only one who came out of it with any morals in tact. It was an absorbing read that I found hard to put down and read in almost one sitting. The ending was both dramatic and unexpected. Loved it.
First, I want to thank Emily Shiner, Inkubator Books and Zooloo Book Tours for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
DANG!!! Emily Shiner’s psychological thrillers keep getting better and better!! Her Husband’s Secret is soooo twisted and intense!!! She really knows how to write an addicting story that will keep you up way past your bedtime! This book is a must read!!! Go put it on your TBR list today!!
From the get go Rodney creeped me out big time for so many reasons why! There is always a character in a book that rubs me the wrong way and he was it.
However, Luke was one of my favorite characters in the whole book. I love the bond that he had with his Mom and their Sunday outings. My heart just ached when he cried at school seeing so many Daddies with their kids and wondered who his was. I wanted to reach into my Kindle and give him a huge hug!
This story was incredibly intense, twisted, mind bending, full of secrets and revelations! Oh and the ending was unbelievably explosive!
What is the best revenge after your husband cheats? This book was all about a woman getting her revenge… but in the end will it work? I really liked this book especially the ending.
Eloise is furious when she discovers her husband Jared had an affair and had ended up with a son. Eloise has decided there is no chance she will ever forgive him nor Tina the woman he had an affair with.
Eloise comes up with a plan and recruits her cousin Rickey to help her. She asks Rickey to keep an eye on Tina whilst she comes up with a plan to push Jared and Tina together to try and get old sparks lighting again.
In order to get “what she deserves” Eloise knows that her husband Jared has to die. Sadly for Eloise a divorce from her filthy rich husband will leave her with absolutely nothing thanks to a prenup she signed years ago when they were to be married. Eloise comes up with a clever and murderous plan which she knows she can pull off with the help of her cousin however Eloise doesn’t bank on Rickey also falling in love with Tina, and soon Eloise finds everything is spieling out of her control much faster than she could have imagined.
I really enjoyed reading her husbands secret by Emily Shiner and I will certainly be looking out for more books written by this author as this was my first and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the twists and turns that took place throughout this book, the characters were easy enough to like and to keep up with. The only thing i did find was at times it wasn’t quite as fast paced as I like, but still I did enjoy it and I’d certainly recommend this book to other readers.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review
That way she'll stay free to inherit what she really loves: Jared's money.
This one certainly gave me the creeps! What started out as a revenge plot on her husband with Tina and Luke as collateral definitely took a turn for the worse when Ricky became obsessed. He’s a real creepy character and gave me the heebie jeebies!
Eloise is cunning and mean - taking advantage of Tina’s situation to fulfil her own twisted revenge on her husband - who imho seems a bit of a drip… when her plan backfires she really only has herself to blame.
But Ricky is more so; and plays Eloise at her home game better than she ever could and the consequences are devastating
Well, I wasn’t expecting that! I should know by now that with a book by Emily, you should expect the unexpected indeed!
This is slightly longer for Emily, and it took some time to get going but the last 20% jeez I was shocked and kept hoping what I had read wasn’t true. I am actually sad that it is, but it does leave it open for a sequel!! I am just shocked! I know I said that already.
With Ricky, we know something is wrong, but not how dark and not quite right it is until near the end when my jaw just dropped!! Eloise, urgh, to think I liked her at the start but a woman scorned and all that jazz.
I did like Tina and I did feel for her to have to go through what she did. Although to be fair, not a lot happens to her. It’s more off-scene and thoughts than the actual scare for her. But some scenes were unsettling for her.
Despite having an inking of where this book is going I didn’t want it to happen. And there is a last bittersweet hurrah at the end, it definitely leaves it open for a sequel! Eek.
Emily is one of my favourite authors and I do squeal when I get her newest book. This isn’t my favourite but it is most definitely a tense ride of obsession and unrequited love!
With thanks to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Her Husband’s Secret is a fast paced thriller detailing Eloise’s plan to take revenge on her cheating husband, Jared. However, her plan will have far reaching consequences beyond Jared…
As always, I enjoyed the multiple perspectives. It added well to the suspense and character development. This felt like a different angle to most thrillers, which build up to revealing the motive behind their actions, whereas Her Husband’s Secret outlines Eloise’s motivation from the early stages. In this case I think Ricky was a pivotal character in continuing building suspense and maintaining a sense of uncertainty regarding where the plot would end up.
I found the ending very satisfactory and fitting. Overall, an enjoyable thriller I would recommend for summer! Emily has a very captivating writing style and I would read more by her in the future.
What a page-turner! Emily Shiner's novel was so engaging I couldn't put it down!! Eloise's plan is falling apart as Ricky, in a poor state of mind, follows Tina around without understanding why she wants to stay away from him to ensure her safety and her son's.
Ricky's complex thought process is that he and Tina will be together with Luke as a family because she will love him back. You feel empathy towards Ricky and his current mindset. Tina constantly fears his delusions and obsession with her, intensifying every time he shows up at her home or work. You can relate to this fear.
The story is well-developed, exceptionally well-written and descriptive, with many less-than-sympathetic characters that make it interesting and well-worth reading.
I must add Emily Shiner's other books to my TBR shelf.
This is a must-read for all thriller enthusiasts, particularly those who love psychological thrillers.!
Everyone loves a good revenge plot. Eloise's version is deliciously twisted and complex. It's a stark contrast to the innocence and sweetness of Tina, the unknowing mistress, and her young son.
The shifting perspectives between chapters helped develop the suspense of the plot. I was never really quite sure where Jared, the cheating husband, fell on the victim-villain continuum. I feel like his character and the backstory of the affair could have used a bit more development. As it stands, his character felt a bit inconsistent with confusing motives.
But the creepy, stalker-ish cousin who gradually became more unhinged? He definitely amped things up!
Overall, this book had all the elements you look for in a psychological thriller. Definitely one to pick up!
This is such a brilliant book! It’s got the wife who gets done over by her cheating spouse and goes on a vengeful journey, unrequited love, taking things a wee bit too far and all the haphazard things that befall these characters in between. The author gives us a brilliant tale, with lots of excellent characters. Just like the big story, this book’s characters are packed with big personalities. It works so well because you need to feel this to to really get the full connection with how fast this story goes from something small to a huge problem. I love how the flow of the story and the pace really spur on that feel and give you the understanding of the snowballing details of the story. That, blended with the storyline, really gives you an overall excellent book.
This was my first read by the author, and what a page turner! I devoured this book in one sitting. I absolutely loved her writing style, and I can not wait to read more from Shinner.
Eloise discovers that her husband Jared had an affair with Tina, resulting in him having a son. She decides to murder her husband and set up Tina with the help of her cousin Rickey. However, things don't go according to her plan.
I really enjoyed Eloise's character. She was very calm and calculating. Shinner has done a great job creating a story with a solid plot and twist and turns. I highly recommend this fast-paced thriller.
This is the second book I've read from this author and once again I absolutely loved this.
Jared has a secret and his wife, Eloise has just found out - that he's had a baby with another woman. We follow Eloise plotting her revenge with cousin Ricky but as the story progresses, we realise all is not quite as it seems.
This had really short chapters each from different points of view between the main characters....which I love, as this allows us to get inside each of their thoughts and let's us peek into each storyline in more depth.
The short chapters also helped me race through in search of answers, keeping me on edge throughout.
Her husband’s secret by Emily Shiner. When Eloise discovers her husband Jared has fathered a son with another woman, Tina, there’s no way she’s forgiving him. But divorce will leave her with nothing, thanks to a prenup.Instead, she takes her time plotting a murderous revenge with the help of her loyal cousin Ricky. Her plan is simple – she’ll kill Jared and set Tina up to take the fall. I did enjoy this book. Twisty and gripping. Ricky was creepy. I didn't trust him. I didn't see that coming. 5*.
This was a DNF for me. There was suspense, but not enough for me to want to continue after about 30%. My TBR is too long for me to waste time on a book that doesn't do it for me.
Eloise has been married to Jared for a few years but unfortunately they cannot have children and that is the one thing that Jared wants more than anything. When Eloise finds out from her cousin Ricky that Jared had been having an affair with Tina, who worked at a bar that they both frequented, she swore that she would not forgive her husband and would work out a plan where she got all his money. She couldn’t just divorce him because of a pre-nup, it meant she walked away with nothing and that wasn’t going to happen.
Instead, she masterminds a plan that means Ricky, her cousin, can keep an eye on Tina by becoming her roommate in her current lodgings whilst Eloise puts a plan in place to get Tina and her son, Luke their own place. The second part of the plan was to murder Jared and blame Tina leaving Eloise in the clear. She just hadn’t taken into account her cousin’s attachment issues for Tina and his losing touch with reality. Also, she just needs to get Tina and Jared to meet again.
Paula had advertised for an extra person to share for a while so when Ricky turned up it was inevitably that he would take the room. He just took an instant liking to Tina and watched her all the time and she got freaked out by this. She started looking for somewhere else to live when she was given Eloise’s name to contact. She did and Eloise sorted her out a house that she could afford, just over the way from Eloise so they were neighbours. One day, Eloise and Jared visited Tina with some food. Tina immediately realised it was Lukes’ father and he seemed to recognise her. The one person she couldn’t get rid of was Ricky and now he knew her new address because he followed her one day from their lodgings, she called it stalking. She thought she was moving away from him. She called Jared for help to get rid of Ricky but got voicemail but a bit later, Jared turned up, she was so happy. She told Ricky it was her boyfriend and he had to leave and not come back. Jared spent some time with Tina and Luke that day. Eloise came home and saw them together.
Is Jared Lukes’ dad? Does the plan work out? Can Ricky keep it together? Eloise was very devious but does it work out?
This is a terrific read, and kept me hooked from the start. Read in one sitting. Each chapter was told by a different person as though in a diary style. I usually like this type of book and find I read them pretty quickly. It was written really well and there was great descriptive prose used. You could imagine the scenes in your head as you were reading. I will read more books by this author.
Tina is a single mum to little Luke. They are cramped in one room and dream of a brighter future. Eloise is married to Jared but knows he cheated on her. She is unable to divorce him due to a prenup so settles on a deadly plan instead... Her Husband's Secret is a psychological thriller set in America. Tina's lover had lied about his identity so she was never able to tell him that she was pregnant. Now she has struggled to raise him alone so she jumps at the chance to find her own home with support of realtor Eloise. But she doesn't know that Eloise is aware that it is her husband who fathered Luke and she has planned to reunite the adulterous pair so that she can take her revenge. Eloise's plan is going perfectly except for her reliance on her cousin Ricky. He has mental health problems and becomes fixated by Tina. The book is written from the perspectives of Tina, Eloise and Ricky so we see their emotions and understand their actions. I was absolutely absorbed by this book, although I didn't find it particularly credible. So I suspended my disbelief and got on with enjoying a fascinating story of dangerous obsessions. I had zero sympathy for Jared who shows no remorse for cheating on his wife and just thinks he can throw money around. Eloise is determined and relentless in pursuit of her husband's downfall. Ricky is troubled and easily led by his ruthless cousin until his own obsessive behaviour towards Tina takes over. I found Ricky's chapters quite sad to read as he is obviously unstable and wants to find happiness. Tina is an innocent amongst all the other scheming characters, and desperately wants the best for her son. She is scared by Ricky which only drives her further into Eloise's clutches. The writing and pace are compellingly good as Eloise's plan unfolds. This book certainly held my interest although the ending was reasonably predictable. Her Husband's Secret is an enjoyable psychological thriller with well written characters.
I enjoyed this, just kind of crazy how naive Eloise would be in thinking that her junkie, schizophrenic cousin, would be able to carry out the plan of killing her husband. And that she’d continue to go with it even when he started acting crazy.
About a couple, Eloise and Jared, who are happily married until Eloise finds out that Jared cheated on her years earlier and has a child w that woman (Tina) that Jared doesn’t know about. The child makes it worse as Eloise and Jared had been trying to conceive and weren’t able to. Eloise can’t forgive him, and she can’t divorce him due to a prenup that leaves her w nothing, so she comes up w a plan to have her cousin kill Jared and have Tina take the fall.
Tina is broke and lives in a dumpy 3 bedroom apt. Ricky moves into the 3rd bedroom at Eloise’s insistence so that he can keep an eye on Tina. However, he ends up falling in love w her. Meanwhile, Eloise is a realtor and helps Tina move into the tiny house across the street from them. She plans on Jared seeing her and falling back in love w her, then making sure everyone in town knows so she’ll be the suspect in his murder.
Jared finds out the kid is his too soon and they move forward w the plan sooner than planned. Ricky kills Jared at their house and makes a mess, then goes home and showers himself in bleach, which puts him in a coma that he eventually dies from, so Eloise gets let off as Ricky is dead and can’t rat her out.
The book ends w the will reading and almost everything going to Tina/Jared’s son, Luke, and Eloise hardly getting anything. It was pretty predictable that that’s what was going to happen.
