The leader of Germany's only parapsychological help facility recounts a typical day of his work, and the cases that come with it.
I did not put much research into this. I found it in the library, it said ghosts on the cover, I took it. I came for creepy ghost stories, and this is not what I got, but hear me out.
The author says there are two camps in parapsycholigical research, divided by what they believe is happening: - paranormal encounters involve entities we call ghosts - paranormal encounters involve those who witness them He belongs to the second group.
It boils down to this: You sense something subconsciously, but are not aware of it. If you have a paranormal encounter, this is a manifestation of your subconsciousness. Once you're aware of what's going on, the situation will dissolve naturally. He studied physics and psychology, and... listen, he doesn't attempt to explain quantum physics and even if he had, I am sure I would not have understood it. But he takes concepts physicists have known for years and integrates them in parapsychological theories. If a person sees objects that move, in his opinion it's down to telekinesis. He recounts experiments he has done in an academic setting both in Freiburg and Utrecht.
What I liked about this book is how he deals with people who come, seeking advice. If a person is happy with what they witnessed, if they think for example that the ghost of a loved person is haunting their home, and they feel positive about it, he won't try to take that away. He only gets out the heavy theory guns when a person feels threatened, is afraid, and really needs help. His main job is to reassure people that they're not going mad, that it is okay to have witnessed what they've seen, heard or felt.
This is not what I came for, but I learned. Something that's all you can do. I am still unsure what to think about ghost sightings, and now I have one more perspective to add to my data.
