The main thing that got to me was the lack of logic. They two protagonists act like they are in love we have a whole chapter about how they can't take their eyes off each other, Conn buys Leigh expensive gifts etc (problematic) and then a few pages on Leigh wonders if Conn is a lesbian. To me it was wholesome that they didn't rush into sex too early in the book but I felt like on the one hand they were very cards-on-the-table about their attraction but still somehow managed to angst about it for practically the whole book.
But also I felt this book couldn't decide whether it was a thriller, a romance or...IDK a book about excessive shopping. Conn descibed as "ethical" because she doesn't fuck over other rich people. "Middle Eastern terrorists" which is the world's laziest plot-point and did not make sense in the context- it seemed to be an attempt to say really evil people can't be American (cue for rest of world to laugh hollowly).
That said it's not a one-star because I enjoyed some aspects of the book especially Leigh refusing to be dominated, but compared to the ones with the hotel by the same author...this was really not my cup of tea
