He recounts finding a still-warm deer bed early one autumn morning, taking a sauna with friends, seeing flying squirrels at his bird feeder. He tells of adventures while cross-county skiing or hiking in the mountains of Mexico, yet evokes a strong sense of place, of the rhythm of small-town life, of long winters and brilliant night skies.

Very nice change of pace...I liked the author's viewpoints of nature and the North. The older I get, the more I enjoy just being outside, tramping through the woods, visiting lakes and experiencing weather, no matter how uncomfortable. Whether cold, wet, hot, or windy...I enjoy really feeling the outside. But not the evil black biting gnats of Northern MN! The author resides not far from our home...perhaps I can visit him someday at Side Lake for a visit in the sauna.
