Get's the job done. Unique-enough characters, but it's the dual plots that make it worthwhile.

I stopped reading 1/2 way through. I don’t like how unkind the dognappers are to each other. Too many uses of “stupid” and “dumb”. I don’t want my kids to say those words and the more they hear it... the more they will use it.

Huh...I expected this one to be a lot more fun than I found it. :S For one thing, I don't generally expect young kids' mystery books to have things like the bad guys randomly firing guns around and almost hitting people. For another thing, the tone and mood of the book felt more like a serious mystery than a fun kids' story--even the elements that could have been slapstick and cartoony really didn't seem to be played that way. Also, I wasn't a fan of the way Corey's apparently serious allergy/asthma issues were played more for laughs and groans than anything else. I mean, seriously, when a kid gets captured by these seriously bad guys, but the nicer one decides to tie his hands in front of his face so he can use his inhaler? That just felt all kinds of dangerous and wrong...

Also, I don't say this often, but it felt like we were missing a lot of backstory on quite a few elements in this story, not the least of which being the group of kids. What exactly was their reputation? What kinds of scrapes had they gotten in before? What was their history with Travis? And that's coming from me who usually wants the long explanations skipped! I just felt like there was a lot of context missing at times.

Overall, a cute concept, but not my favorite.

The story starts out with Corey , Mark, and Maria Delores wondering what to do , then they find Mark’s dad’s crime buster note book .They decide to start the crime busters back up again and find there first case when Samson the ally cat that belongs to their neighbor goes missing !



Then a lot of dogs from around the neighborhood go missing . Who is taking them ?



I would highly recommend this book to any 3-4 grader !
