When it comes to reproductive health, women have questions.
What can I do about painful periods?
Why are my cycles irregular?
What are my options for family planning?
When we think of being a woman, it’s easy to feel the pain points. Yet, as believers, we desperately hope there’s more to it than this.
Certified FertilityCare Practitioner Caitlin Estes believes that female bodies matter, that our reproductive design isn’t intended to be pointless and punishing, but infused by God with significance and purpose. Drawing from her theological education and clinical expertise, Caitlin connects theology, women’s stories, and practical education in her essential book Woven Well. In it, she equips us
Understand and celebrate our unique biology
Advocate for excellent and compassionate women’s health and fertility care
Explore menstruation, the hormone cycle, ovulation, and conception
Think biblically and counterculturally about family planning, hormones, and fertility
Face brokenness in the reproductive field with courage and grace
Connect more intimately with our Creator
Woven Well explores culture’s broken perception of the female body and paints a theologically rich alternative. God designed female bodies for our flourishing and for the flourishing of the world. Listeners discover just how much this influences our options and expectations for things like birth control alternatives, infertility treatments, and reproductive medicine.
If you want to navigate women’s health issues and questions with confidence, honor your design as an image bearer of God, and reclaim God’s dignity for the female body, you’ll find this and more in Woven Well.
Her wise, practical, and pastoral approach to interrelated topics have proved to be a real gift - in writing, podcasting, and the client work so much of it flows from.
Heartily recommend as a foundation for further conversations that *need* to be happening in Christian spaces. Our bodies, sexuality, and procreative potential all matter deeply to our lives of faith. Our experience of them can be transformed by the Creator, Healer, and Shepherd - if we will let them be.
Caitlin's gifts and hard work are sure to benefit many women, marriages, and church communities. Spread copies of this one far and wide!
This book opened my eyes even more to the dignity of women and their reproductive health. It is filled with practical tips and meaningful reflection points.
Sometimes I would have to remind myself of the likely intent of the book (educating and empowering about women’s health) and that it was not intended to be a primarily literary work.
It very objectively presents the content from a neutral Christian perspective. The truth is compelling!
I don’t have words to adequately express my gratitude for this book. EVERY woman needs this in her hands and heart. Caitlin delicately, articulately, and generously shares about our bodies, cycles, and the good design of it all. So grateful.
I highly recommend reading Caitlin's "Woven Well" book! She beautifully explains how the human body's every unique detail is "woven" by God even before birth in the mother's womb (as mentioned in Psalm 139). For example, the developing baby girl in her mother's womb develops all of the eggs in her ovaries that she'll ever have in her lifetime - how amazing! I could really relate to Caitlin's personal stories like how she was first introduced to menstrual periods with her friends and what she was (and was not) taught in grade school health class. Caitlin not only provides information to more fully understand the human body and fertility (especially for women), but helps readers to know and appreciate the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) and their role and purpose as created by God, in His image and likeness, as being "very good" even in a broken world (Genesis 1), to be image bearers of God. If only all people knew this perspective! Caitlin introduces readers to RRM healthcare and FAM/NFP methods (which are natural and dignifying), while acknowledging that it is a personal decision to choose them when the woman or couple is ready. Finally, Caitlin reminds us that even a woman with a "broken body" (such as if she does not have a certain female function like menstruation, ovulation, gestation, or lactation - for whatever reason) has a body that is good and has a story that is meaningful. Caitlin concludes that ALL women can know and proclaim the gospel truth that they are "woven well."
This is the book I wish I had at 14.5, a “late bloomer” whose conservative parents didn’t tell me anything about menstruation until it happened to me. This is the book I wish I had at 18, when I was getting my period 3 times a year and told it was “normal.” This is the book I wish I had had at 20, engaged to my Bible college sweetheart, looking for family planning resources that didn’t involve going on the pill. This is the book I wish I had at 27, after giving birth to my first baby and trusting an IUD to help us space our children and finding out I was pregnant 11 months postpartum. This is the book I wish I had at 31, sitting in a OB after 4 miscarriages and being told IVF was the best way to avoid getting “unlucky” again.
This is the book I needed for the last 20 years of my reproductive life as a Christian woman, and I am so glad it is finally available for all the women who will come after me.
Truly one of the most impactful books! Over the years I’ve discovered how life giving it is to dive deeper with how God has designed our bodies. Caitlin does a beautiful job of tying our Creator in with His Creation- specifically through women’s health.
The best part is the fact the book feels like you are simply sitting & having a conversation with Caitlin. It’s personal, real, applicable, eye opening, and leaves you wanting to take action- both for your own health & for other women.
Highly recommend reading Woven Well, but even more than that, sharing it with a friend once you’re finished!
So thankful for this book and for Caitlin’s words. She writes, “Every woman deserves to understand how her body works, but not only so she can predict her periods and plan her family. There’s another benefit: As she discovers more about her creation, she can’t help but be drawn closer to her Creator.”
Caitlin is informative and also compassionate. As someone who has experienced loss and infertility and chronic illness, I was encouraged by her reminders of God’s goodness and His presence and care in our suffering.
I really really appreciated the premise of this book. I love to read and learn more about how women's bodies work on the hormonal end especially, but this book does such a great job of going back to the Lord's plans for our bodies and has a lot of thoughts about stewarding our bodies well to serve Him and those around us.
I don't agree with every single theology thought, but by and far, I can see this as a book I'd be comfortable reading and discussing with my daughters as they get older.
This book is By a woman, For women - all women! Caitlin does an amazing job of gently and consistently reminding us that we are made in God’s image and are therefore worthy of self-love, self-respect, and quality medical care that respects our God-given dignity. No matter if you are 17, 35, or 60, I cannot recommend this book enough!
