I have been wonderfully inspired by reading some of Robert Webber's other books, particularly The Divine Embrace: Recovering the Passionate Spiritual Life so I was happy to find a hardcover copy of his Book of Daily Prayer. Published in 1993, and now out of print, it's a predecessor to Phyllis Tickle's more expansive, 3 volume, Divine Hours series. Webber's book follows the Christian year from Advent through Lent and Easter, Pentecost and eventually, starting over at advent the following year. This is a wonderful guide to prayer through the seasons of the Christian year in a single volume. Since some holy days vary from year to year a calendar is provided on page 8 to provide a starting point for each season. Though the calendar only covers from 1992 to 2014, it's easy to find a year in it that is identical to the current year by looking for the date of the first Sunday in Advent. For example, in 2025, Advent starts on November 30th, the same day it started in 2003 and that year's dates apply to 2025-26 as well.
This book would serve anyone very well who would like to begin a habit of daily prayer, if you can find a copy. I collected other prayers that I added to the selection of prayers in the back of the book which are referred to in each days reading. I wish I had found this book much sooner in my faith journey. It would have helped me much more than others available at the time.
