Wow, I have never seen in one book such a comprehensive history of the black experience in America. Covering slavery to police brutality, 1619 to 1970's with a treasure trove of documents, quotes and analysis. Originally published in 1968, my copy included a new preface in 1974. A excellent history of protest, can't believe it's not more widely read on goodreads. Sadly, the 1960's sound very much like today as if America has made no progress since. Highly recommend!
