While Dean Robinson and Erin Kelly, everybody’s favorite arcane power couple, had good reason to extend that invite, they sort of kicked off a cataclysmic series of events in the process. Bummer. As the supernatural becomes mainstream in the most grandiose fashion and the secrets of the hidden world are revealed, will mankind embrace the ‘new’ normal? Or, will life as we know it devolve into an apocalyptic battlefield of gods and monsters hell-bent on ushering in the end times? Pun intended.

Either way, Dean and Doc have their work cut out for them. Pfft, no sweat. Right?

Solid story, great dialogue, rushed ending

This book was the love child of a Harry Dresden novel and a Guy Ritchie movie. Interesting lore, punchy dialogue, and crazy situations. Overall it was really good. Dean is his usual wise cracking self. Blue Sky is up to no good again, scheming to have dragons return to Earth and take it over. After bouncing around Earth, Nod, Purgatory, and even the Vatican, Dean and company race to save the day. It was a thrill ride that just ends really quickly. There's no big showdown between Dean and Blue Sky. Just poof, he wins. Lots of build up with little pay off. The ending brings up a ton of new questions about what will happen going forward.

Ok - This book is EASILY the best written book of the series thus far! Return Of The Sky Gods was an absolute BLAST from start to finish. From the knee slapping quips and unnatural brawls to the mind blowing imagery and surreal locations. I was hooked from page one! The plot kept me guessing all the way through as Dean, Doc, and Rooster made their way through the back streets of Nod (Purgatory) and even broke into the secret archives of the Vatican. Definitely a fun read all the way through!

Great Characters!

I really like historically based and Biblical based fiction. This series is based on every mythical folklore, every religious apocalyptic belief with the most hilarious characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I literally sink into Mr. Gilmore's fictitious world, and simply cannot get enough. Please keep writing because your witty banter and references to yourself keep me laughing while on the edge of my seat for how Doc and Dean are going to win the day without dying.

It is all going on, Enki is building a place for humans to live, Blue sky is trying to get rid of him and so allies with the dragons to do that, Dean is trying to put a stop to all of it and mostly manages to bumble his way through all the hazards and he picks up a new ally in the form of Chad.
Great fun.

Return of the Sky Gods is a cover-to-cover fun fest of epic proportions. Picking up right on the heels of Ride of the Horseman, I was immediately pulled back into the Heaven’s Dark Soldierverse as Dean and his endearing crew of supernatural buddies tangled with everything from angels to dragons (super cool, by the way) with the culminating skirmish with the enigmatic, Mr. Blue Sky. As with Gilmore’s other works, the dialogue is snappy, refreshing, and hilarious. The action scenes were insanely cool. Especially the stuff in Purgatory. Loved all the Rome/ Vatican scenes also. Super fun read and can’t wait for the next one. Bring it!
