Beloved Captive

Rate this book
First, the Comanche raided Isobel's hacienda and swept her away to the New Mexican desert. Then, she saw her abductor's face. The young chieftain Stands Alone had claimed her, his childhood companion and first love, as his bride. Isobel called him a savage; he called her his prisoner. Yet his fiery kisses freed her heart and imprisoned his own. Now, if two warring cultures don't divide them forever, they may finally join in one indomitable love.

Really liked this one.

Isabel and Stands Alone were childhood friends. Isabel's father reluctantly agreed to an arranged marriage with Stands Alone, but tried to back out of it by sending her to Mexico and telling Stands Alone and his father she was dead. When she returns years later, they see her and realize they'd been lied to, and her father is killed and Isabel is abducted and the marriage performed anyways.

I loved Stands Alone. He is so patient with Isabel. He loves her so much and is just so desperate for her to love him back. He goes out of his way to try to let her know this without actually having to say it because he's afraid she doesn't love him - such as making love to her in ways that men in his tribe normally don't do and buying her pretty things. Sigh.

The betrayal towards the end was kinda farfetched, but I'll let it slide lol.

Very good story. Some very interesting takes on the way things were and shouldn’t have been!
