Overall, "Song of Trinity" is a captivating and action-packed read, and I highly recommend it to fans of the genre.
Sai Chandravadhan Bommadevara's Song of the Trinity, penned under the name Vadhan, promised an epic fusion of impending doom and mortal deity struggles. While the premise held undeniable intrigue, my journey through its pages left me with mixed sentiments. Kali, imprisoned yet plotting revenge, anchors the tale.
Amidst resurrected villains and battles between mortals and gods, a diverse cast, from cursed warriors to astral castaways, strives to stop him. The narrative paints a vivid, chaotic tapestry, yet uneven pacing occasionally muddles the experience. Characters, like the rap-singing sage, feel out of sync. High stakes and cosmic struggle shine, but refinement is needed. A 3-star cosmic blend of mythology and fantasy.
The combination of dystopian fiction with the mythological elements can make a story irresistible in appeal, pace and character modifications. And the author has not left a single chance to wow the readers. Kaliyug and Kalki have long remained the staple amongst the authors who have written stories of the last avatar or the dark age, employing tricks and subplots to widen the scope of the story. This book has one of the most powerful prologues I have read this year in speculative fiction. Buzzing with gods and villains, demigods and their carriers, an impending war and a time portal to escape through, it has everything you wanted in a fantasy. So what is it about?
Kali, the lord of Kaliyug, also called Kroni, who was once a Maharishi was trapped by the Trinity and the Kalki in an impenetrable prison. Now, thousands of years later, there are rumour flying around: he is trying to exact a revenge. Some suspect that an insider in the Guardian initiative is a traitor. Two characters share a same dream about him where he is heard calling out Trigund. A ragtag bunch of heroes come together to stop this primordial evil from rising again. The existence of the very universe is at stake.
Fantasy has always been my go-to genre. The infinite possibilities it provides of speculation make for an engrossing reading and there is nothing better than learning about a magical world full of interesting characters and abrupt twists. I have so many favorite genres but fantasy remains my first love. And the author proves my genre choice right again. Written like a thriller with elements unfolding periodically, he successfully maintains interest throughout. Have a look: "A predator glared at him. Not five feet from where he stood. It floated in the darkness. He knew by just looking into the eyes. They were merciless. He had an inkling that the predator was of the female gender. All he could make out was a grey splatter of tentacles and piercing eyes. The predator made an offer, whispered throatily in a tongue so ancient that he could not possibly have understood, yet he did. 'Your kingdom, the glory, do you not want it? It is yours to take, come to me....'"
The author doesn't waste much time and establishes the story early on. The atmospherics of the story are akin to a thriller, and the mystery is added by the continuous twists and turns. The author exerts a tight control on the elements of the story, balancing pace with the emotions, walking a tight rope of keeping reader's interest in the story while helping the main character evolve at a comfortable pace.
Strong characters make for strong stories. If the characters are flaky or one dimensional, the joy of reading a book, even if the story is interesting, is rendered half. The characters of this story are unpredictable, impulsive, multi dimensional and drive the story forward. It's a delight to see a character-driven story because their actions are as interesting as the plot and the twists. This also makes up for layering of the characters, adding a touch of humanity to papery words and that's just delightful. The characters of Kris and Shatru are particularly fascinating. Shatru, part Asura and part Deva is shattered after his father's murder. He himself went through an NDE that awoke his powers. He blames them for not being able to save his father. His apprentice Kris got his planet attacked and destroyed. For all the battle scars he carried, the thought of a confrontation still sent butterflies fluttering around his stomach. Read these lines about Shatru: "Even if one of the three Guardians was there, my father would still be alive. I know, they are my teachers. They trained me to be the best Hunter in their initiative but all that had a quid pro quo to it. I will do their bidding, I will keep peace between the Devas and Asuras, in return, my family, which as you know was only my father and Little Rover, were to be protected."
The author exerts a tight control on the elements of the story, balancing pace with the emotions, walking a tight rope of keeping reader's interest in the story while helping the main character evolve at a comfortable pace. Such stories need a hefty world building and the author has delivered on the promise. The world of this story looks organic and lived in, and not dry or forced. The elements merge with the characters and the plot, without standing out like grit in a reader's eye. Have a look: "A Shiromani is an ornamental head dress, usually part of a turban or a crown. Legend had it that Aswathaman was born with a Shiromani gem on his forehead and that he had pried it loose during the last days of the great war of Kurukshetra at the behest of Lord Krishna."
The author has fabricated this world extensively but patiently, releasing information in little packets and has not overwhelmed the reader with a barrage of information. That way the reader's interest remains on top of the crest without bearing the burden of having to remember stuff. Have a look: "Devas, Asuras and others from the Primordial tribes were vying for a piece of Bhoomika. They had always wanted to control the blue planet for obvious reasons. Those who controlled Bhoomika controlled the fate of the fourteen worlds. Which is why they had set up corporations and traded with the humans with no one the wiser."
A Spellbinding Fantasy Story That Explores Magic, Mayhem, and Mythology
After all the hype, I decided to pick up Vadhan's Song of the Trinity. I can tell you firsthand - readers are sure to be transported to a mesmerizing world steeped in history, magic, and mythos. This epic fantasy novel weaves a tale of gods and mortals, packed with well-crafted characters, an engrossing plot, and thought-provoking themes.
A looming apocalypse threatens to engulf the universe as Kali, the Lord of Kaliyug, plots his revenge from an impenetrable prison. With mortals and Gods facing annihilation, the desperate deities attempt to put an end to their infighting and form an alliance against the ancient peril.
Outnumbered and facing a nemesis that can kill with a mere glance, their epic struggle unfolds in a battle for survival. All this is happening while time ticks away toward the final confrontation - Kaliyug.
Writing Style One of the most commendable aspects of Song of the Trinity is Vadhan's masterful writing style. The prose flows smoothly, effortlessly drawing the reader into a world teeming with vivid descriptions and captivating imagery.
The narrative's pacing strikes a perfect balance, providing moments of tension and anticipation, complemented by introspective pauses. This allows readers to immerse themselves in the characters' thoughts and emotions.
Despite this being the second book in the series (I hadn’t yet read the first one), it was still easy to follow. I never felt lost or left behind as I was learning how the world and its systems worked along with the characters. As a result, the story remained engaging from start to finish.
Setting and Characters Set against the backdrop of a mythical era, the novel's historical setting is brought to life with meticulous detail. Vadhan intricately weaves a tapestry of ancient cultures, deities, and civilizations, making the world feel both authentic and magical.
The Gods' struggle for dominance and their internal conflicts underscore a vital theme—the consequences of infighting. This aspect serves as a powerful reminder of the destructive power of division and the importance of unity, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable threats.
Notably, the novel introduces strong female protagonists alongside equally compelling male characters. Be it Lalitha or Sunanda, the women are often seen leading the battle and rescuing men throughout the story! These well-rounded figures defy stereotypes, each contributing significantly to the narrative's development.
Other Underlying Themes Throughout the novel, Vadhan explores the idea of embracing one's true potential - be it the Rap Sage (yes, that’s a character!) or Ashwathaman. As the characters confront a looming darkness threatening their world's existence, they discover hidden strengths within themselves.
The fragility of existence is a haunting theme that lingers throughout the story. The impending threat of complete annihilation acts as a reminder of the preciousness of life and the universe. This reflection on preservation and protection resonates deeply with readers, urging them to ponder the value of what they hold dear.
Who Should Pick Up This Book? Song of the Trinity by Vadhan is a well-crafted and engaging fantasy novel that blends historical elements and fantastical themes. Vadhan's captivating storytelling and well-developed characters make this a must-read for fantasy enthusiasts.
The book's profound exploration of unity, inner strength, existential fragility, and triumph over fear leaves a lasting impression on readers. It is a good fit for readers who like to take home more than just a fast-paced thriller or fantasy story.
For those seeking an immersive journey into a mythical world filled with gods and mortals, Song of the Trinity is a compelling choice. Vadhan's ability to evoke emotions and provoke contemplation makes this novel an unforgettable addition to the fantasy genre.
🥀Vadhan's Song of the Trinity is more than simply another legendary retelling; it's like entering a hallowed place where philosophy, spirituality, and mythology come together to unveil more profound realities about life. The story transports you to an ancient yet eternal universe from the opening page, where the goddess Kali emerges as a cosmic force of transformation rather than just a destroyer.
🥀The author's ability to balance Kali's caring, liberating nature with her furious fury is what most impressed me while reading. Kali is frequently described as the evil goddess who inspires fear, but Vadhan challenges you to take a deeper look and see the creativity and knowledge concealed beneath that terrifying exterior. Here, Kali is a goddess of beginnings as well as ends, teaching us that sometimes ruins make room for new life.
🥀Poetic insight is interwoven with the narrative. Rather than merely recounting myths, the author reveals philosophical concerns by dissecting those symbolic layers: What does actual liberation mean? Why does growth sometimes require destruction? As searchers, how do we synchronize with the cosmic cycle of formation, preservation, and dissolution? Because of these reflections, the book becomes far more just a book to read; it becomes a journey of self-discovery.
🥀 I especially liked how the book preserves the mysticism of Vedic traditions while making their grandeur approachable. Despite being filled with spiritual energy, the world-building surrounding Kali's ascent is captivating and nearly theatrical in scope. You sense the awe of her place in the cosmic cycle, the weight of her struggles, and the intensity of her presence.
🥀I found myself reading paragraphs again and slowing down to really comprehend their profundity. The book's ability to question stereotypes is another one of its strong points. Many of us were raised with one-dimensional or simplistic depictions of Kali, either as a goddess marginalized in mythology or as a symbol of terror.
🥀She is re-centered by Vadhan, who explains her importance to maintaining the equilibrium of the universe, her dual roles as mother and warrior, and the reasons why seekers still find her presence compelling. But don't assume that this is a dreary philosophical discussion; there is a little bit of lyrical beauty mixed in with the narrative's intensity and velocity.
🥀Like Kali herself, the writing alternates between being ferocious and peaceful. The endless dance of death and life, destruction and creation, is presented to you on every page, giving you the impression that you are being led through a spiritual battlefield. This work is sure to leave a lasting impression on readers who enjoy mythology, mysticism, or even philosophical investigations of the self. I would add, though, that it's not simply for fans of mythology.
🥀 These pages will resonate with anybody who has ever thought about metamorphosis, questioned the cycles of their own life, or looked for purpose in turmoil. This is an invocation rather than merely a narrative. It invites you to see not just the ascent of a goddess but also the ascent of personal change. You might find yourself leaving with a fresh perspective on power, equilibrium, and freedom if you read it with both your eyes and your spirit.
Step into the mesmerizing world of Vadhan's "Song of the Trinity: The Rise of Kali," where gods clash, mortals ascend, and chaos reigns supreme! Brace yourself for an exhilarating journey through Hindu mythology and epic fantasy, filled with unexpected twists and heart-pounding turns.
Imagine Kali, the formidable Lord of Kaliyug, may be locked away, but his sinister plot for freedom is underway, orchestrated by his loyal band of cosmic miscreants. As the very fabric of the universe trembles with apprehension, a motley crew of heroes emerges, ready to confront the impending threat head-on. Think of it as the Avengers, infused with divine essence and devoid of spandex!
Vadhan's writing is like a magic carpet ride, whisking you away to distant realms with every turn of the page. Sure, there are a few bumps along the way (looking at you, pesky grammatical errors), but the sheer imagination and storytelling chops on display make it a wild ride worth taking.
Let's talk about the characters, shall we? From the brooding warrior with a haunted past to the wise-cracking Rap Sage, each one feels like they've leapt straight out of a mythological epic and into your living room. They're flawed, they're fabulous, and they're ready to kick some divine butt!
The plot unfolds like a fireworks display on Diwali night - dazzling, breathtaking, and occasionally leaving you wondering where the next explosion is coming from. Sure, there are a few lulls in the action, but they're just the calm before the storm. And trust me, when that storm hits, you won't be able to put the book down!
Beneath all the epic battles and cosmic showdowns, "Song of the Trinity" packs a powerful message about the importance of unity and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds. It's like the Bhagavad Gita meets "Lord of the Rings," with a dash of Bollywood drama thrown in for good measure.
Get ready to ride an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish! There are moments of heart-pounding excitement, gut-wrenching sorrow, and fist-pumping triumph that will have you cheering for the heroes and cursing the villains in equal measure.
Vadhan's world-building is like a feast for the imagination, with richly detailed settings and larger-than-life characters that practically leap off the page. Add to that a plot that keeps you guessing until the very end, and you've got a recipe for an epic fantasy adventure that's impossible to put down.
Okay, let's address the elephant in the room: those pesky grammatical errors. They're like little speed bumps on an otherwise smooth highway, but if you can overlook them (or better yet, embrace them as part of the charm), you're in for one heck of a ride.
As someone who devours fantasy novels like they're going out of style, I have to say, "Song of the Trinity: The Rise of Kali" is one heck of a ride. It's got everything I love in a book - epic battles, memorable characters, and a story that keeps me guessing until the very end.
So, if you're looking for a thrilling escape from reality, look no further than "Song of the Trinity." Trust me, once you step into Vadhan's world, you won't want to leave. So grab a copy, buckle up, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!

Book: Song of the Trinity Author: Vadhan Genre: Mythology .. My Rating: 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐ .. I was captivated by the mesmerizing narrative of this beautiful book, which delves deep into the essence of Sanatana Dharma and its profound teachings. The author skillfully weaves a tale that revolves around the concept of balance, illustrating the necessity for the rise of equal positivity in the face of negativity like Rama and Krishna in response to the likes of Ravana and Shakuni.
The story unfolds in the aftermath of the epic battle of Mahabharata, specifically focusing on the wrath of Lord Krishna upon learning of Ashwatthama's heinous act of killing Draupadi's sons in their sleep. From this pivotal point, the narrative seamlessly transitions to the present time, where the age of Kaliyuga, characterized by darkness and cruelty, holds sway.
At the heart of the book lies the figure of Lord Kali and a group of sages, the Demi Gods, whose endeavors to combat the bitter realities of Kaliyuga take center stage. The plot is rife with twists and turns, ensuring that the readers remain engaged and enthralled throughout. One aspect that particularly struck me was the author's adeptness at painting vivid scenes with each turning page, allowing me to visualize the unfolding events with remarkable clarity.
However, there were a few elements that slightly disrupted my reading experience. The limited character descriptions left me yearning for more depth and insight into the individuals who populated the story. Additionally, there were moments where the intricate plot became somewhat convoluted, making it challenging for me to fully grasp certain aspects. It felt like there were multiple layers at play simultaneously, which could be overwhelming at times.
Nonetheless, my overall impression of the book was highly positive. I wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow enthusiasts of fantasy and mythology. Its action-packed nature, combined with the underlying messages of hope and divinity, make it a compelling read that is bound to resonate with a wide range of readers. I recommend it to fantasy readers and mythology lovers.
There are some books that made you breathless, and you need to stop to absorb the book, need a break to breathe to take rest because of the power of the book became agitated and a whirlwind of excitement made you fricking, it is that kind of book.
In a bold and crispy way, author started telling us a captivating story that unfurled a very interesting blending of fantasy, mythology, and science fiction.
When the Mahabharata ended, Pandavas and Krishna left Ashwatthama with his unfathomable emotions, strange and staggered to his feet and went to search for devilish revenge. Kaliyug entered and started putting its claws into the heart of humanity. In the age of deceit and treachery, his vassals are exploiting every flaw and weakness to break their liege out of captivity.
The worlds are destroyed, villains resurrected, and mortals and Gods are annihilated, all of it just so Kali can rule over the universe. When he breaks loose, nothing can stop the end of days.
The Gods are struggling to stop their infighting and to build an alliance to face the ancient peril. A handful of Bravehearts including a cursed warrior, a one-of-a-kind Demi-God, a raging sage, and an extraterrestrial orphan are all that stand between the unspeakable evil and the existence of the universe.
Hopelessly outnumbered, can they stop a nemesis that can kill them by merely glaring at them?
The best thing I loved about the book is his magnificent writing style, he has a grip on words. Very elegant and poetic eloquence skillfully waved the theme of the book.
It's a very well-crafted blending of fantasy and mythology that knitted around Ashwatthama's character and narrative carried out the wisdom and story in an interesting way. With gradually explored characters and well-executed sequences, this book is very engaging and constantly provoked readers to stick with the book. I liked how author portrayed the complexity of Ashwatthama's character and the diversity of other characters he explored so well articulated.
I am astounded by the elegant narrative that goes for a fast-paced, atmospheric gripping story. I recommend this book to those who love reading mythology and sci-fi thriller books and movies because it's an extremely powerful atmospheric narrative.
In the impending darkness of an approaching end, Kali, the imprisoned Lord of Kaliyug, meticulously crafts a malevolent scheme of vengeance, exploiting every opportunity and weakness within his reach. Within this age of deception and betrayal, his loyal subjects conspire to liberate their ruler, wreaking havoc and devastation upon the worlds. The fabric of existence unravels as villains resurface, both mortals and Gods face obliteration, all to satisfy Kali's insatiable desire for universal dominion. A great adventure of a book based on our Vedic & Puranic legends. It’s a fast paced roller coaster with one of the most amazing character written by an Indian author and that amazing character is SHATRU. I would recommend every reader to read by Shatru by Vadhan, which is prequel to this book to enjoy it more.
Back to this book, Kali the antagonist of Kaliyug is on rise who wants to dominate all the realms and intents to bring down the Great Equation i.e. Parabrahman himself. He has his allies and then there are heroes who oppose him. Story has its fair share of deceits, treachery and twists which keeps it entertaining. Instances from the times of Mahabharata are beautifully written, so is the opening sequence where Kali was chased by the hordes of Gods and Asuras together.
Character of Indra is also written with a great finesse, one who is more intelligent than most of the other Gods due to which he comes out to be arrogant. Political machinations between various tribes of Devas, Asuras, Nagas & Garudas are woven seamlessly in the narrative. Scenes between Shatru, Kris and Indra are hilarious. Focus is heavily on the ancient warrior here who is out to save the day. I would have loved to see more of Shatru in this but that I guess is reserved for later & hope to see more of him in the remaining two parts of the trilogy. And it would be great to see how Shatru is going to converse with the ancient relic, the brooding ancient warrior here.
Characters are sketched with grey shades here as you will see devas and asuras fighting from both the sides.
This novel is also an interplanetary space saga, with characters hopping between various worlds such as Indralok, Pataal, Gora Patalak, Nagalok in their spaceships. Author have vividly described these worlds with his gift of imagination.
Overall it’s a great fantasy adventure inspired by Hindu legends & Itihasa. Book 1 is built up to the big epic war which is looming over the horizon. So, go grab your copies and treat yourself.

An enthralling novel that opens to a cacophonic catastrophe of our very world graciously standing at the tip of its sole end. But it's not the first time, maybe in this timeline; yeah. Considering eternity, it's just a jump from another Kali-yuga time to our Kali-yuga. Sounds interesting? trust me, it's just the beginning! * The narrative was so gripping that it weaved together almost all of the mythological stories I have heard since my childhood. I was in awe of the author's brilliance to find a connotation balancing varied storylines of Hindu Mythology into one splendid huge plot. * Poetic verses in between the storylines, be it a prophecy verse or verse of talking were truly refreshing. It was more of an inward journey as there were plenty of takeaways in plain site like ->Remove hope, there would be no chaos. ->Apparently, he feels I do not deserve divine largesse. I wonder why, after all, I have not done anything they had not done. * The building of characters was done ardently but not long enough to make it derail from the plot. The sheer number of characters involved made it strenuous to go forward without backtracking a few pages to get the connection clear. Many things like time jump, black holes, bloodlines, etc were made totally inclusive at ease which in turn made the novel a go-to pick for any fantasy/mythology lovers. Logics behind the scenes was well sorted which was a major push for me to turn the pages without any hault, especially the scene where our author explains a powerful prison and the method it takes to open it.- Mind-boggled! * I felt excited and pumped up throughout the read as I was able to connect the dots between our renowned mythological heroes, thus it puts me through a ride of nostalgia. * On a bigger picture, "Song of The Trinity: The Rise of Kali" by Vadhan is an enchanted, unputdownable read. If you love fantasy or mythology or both, then this should be your next pick!

Review : This is a mythological fantasy thriller based in the present day. The book is full with mythical creatures, Gods and Demons and a supreme evil. So it's a perfect book for the lovers of these genres.
The prologue of the book starts with the introduction of The Kali; Lord of Kaliyug, another name Kroni the Other, a Maharishi. Who believes that removing hope will decrease the chaos in universe. And it's a scene of the end of Kaliyug. When Kali fled away from the trinity.
Then in the next chapter we see a scene from Kurukshetra, and get to see the curse put on Ashwatthama by Krishna and this starts a cycle of the incidents in kaliyuga.
Then in the next chapter we meet the trio , Kris, Sunanda, the Asurin General and Ajathashatru, his master and our protagonists. They're in the mission to clear all the followers that are helping Kali to break free from his prison so that he can't destroy this Kaliyuga like the previous one. And then our main captivating tale starts.
From the very beginning there's so many things going on that you will probably think what's the connection between all these. We meet so many characters and so many past stories that for a moment it'll be all overwhelming. But after sometime it'll be a smooth ride.
What I like most about the book is how the author make the mythological characters in Gen Z version. Like we have a Rap Sage. And all the characters will feel like a modern day characters. And its never feel like too much or absurd. For that we have to praise the author's writing and storytelling style.
The story is also fast paced and captivating and intriguing you wouldn't know when you'll fly through it all. And the way the book ends I'm ready to read book two right now.

The author's depiction of this age of deceit is eerie and captivating. As realms collapse, villains and heroes are reborn. Despair shatters survival hopes as death looms. Despite unfathomable obstacles, hope develops.
The story features a group of remarkable people with curses and destiny-tied fates. A cursed warrior, a unique Demi-God, a raging sage, and an otherworldly orphan fight the darkness. Their determination shines in the darkness.
These brave humans' fates are in the balance as cosmic forces clash. The evil Kali, whose glance can shatter reality, tests their willpower. The suspense is tangible as readers are pulled along on an exciting journey, breathlessly awaiting the outcome of this epic fight.

The author spins a suspenseful tale populated by antiquated prophesies, vengeful deities, and a varied cast of heroes who bravely attempt to foil the evil schemes of the Lord of Kaliyug, Kali.
In order to dominate the cosmos and take her vengeance, Kali is adamant. The topic of godly alliances and rivalries deepens the plot by underlining the intricacies of divine politics and the need for unity. The stakes are quite high, and the heroes are vastly outnumbered. Their individual adventures, inner struggles, and progress throughout the narrative give their quest emotional meaning and depth. They represent the unbreakable spirit of bravery despite being vastly outnumbered by Kali.
The author's command of imagery enables us to see the obliteration of worlds, the reappearance of villains, and the battles between gods and humans with astounding clarity.
