Hoss has to take care of the cattle and has a line cabin to live in until he returns to the Ponderosa. One day, he shoots a mother mountain lion, and he finds the cub. Being soft-hearted, Hoss can't bring himself to shoot the cub, so he takes him back to the cabin and proceeds to raise the cub. A few weeks later, Hoss returns home and finds that the cub has followed him. When a man is killed, the men decide a mountain lion did it and they start to hunt that lion. Hoss does everything he can to save his cub.
